Ken was so under-rated in the show but he was half of the show. His loyalty, duty, character to justice was great. He possessed an innocent wisdom. I loved Festus
My granddad on my daddy's side couldn't read or write, my dad read at the 2nd grade level.... this was in the 1930s in Mississippi. When my mom and dad were married in 1943, she taught him how to read and write, he was very proud of his achievement and rightly so
My God,, when Festus first appeared all is boys at church were trying our best to imitate him. God I still imitate him and wish I could remember all his sayings! My favorite being an alcoholic is, " You been drinking that loud mouth?" referring to whiskey! And "She is so tall she could hunt geese with a rake" and on and on pure gold!
Ken played a humble character in the series, but the he loved and loyalty he displayed for Matt and kitty it was beautiful to watch. Today you can barely find that in between people. God bless festus and RIP.
Festus is my very favorite character in Gunsmoke. I esp loved he and Doc giving each other the business! My dad and I loved do watch them together….always made us laugh. And he always called Matt Matthew….I just loved him.
I was enjoyed the interaction between Festus and Doc...Always the best part of Gunsmoke...Festus was my favorite character of Gunsmoke...He was book smart...but he had intergrity, showed loyalty to his friends, and most of all had good old "Common Sense"
I use to love the episodes when Festus and Quint (Burt Reynolds), would get involved in something. It was funny when Festus would call him "Comanche". The episode where the two of them went to Wichita to get the new bellows was a riot.
Absolutely loved the show but hated how it ended. Matt and Kitty should of loaded up in a buggy with Matt's horse in tow and all 3 rode off into the sunset !!!!!!! Now thats the way it should of ended !!!!😥😘👍👍
@@LesterMoore just what I was going to say lol. Just watched that episode on Pluto along with several other episodes that featured some of his kinfolk.
My Grandfather made $85 a month as a Driver Engineer (Fireman who operated the steam fire engine and drove the horses) in 1902. Not a fortune, but maybe 6 months or more pay? I’d like to have it lol
It depends on the show, for me. I like the B&W originals like Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and the Lone Ranger. But I think Bonanza would not be the same if it were B&W. I do think the B&W versions of Gunsmoke are better than the in-color ones.
@@mauricefoster615 Interesting obversation. Very true Bonanza just couldn't be the same in B&W ! Kinda like freedom. Experienced in the 1950's as oppsed to today. Imagine the future with socalism! And proclaiming this is America. God help us all! I'm sooooo glad I'm close to the end of my life! But I am sooooo sorry I couldn't leave the the tremendous feeling of true freedom for the first time in human history to my children. It's a total TRAGITY due to exactly what l, whoo knows but probably started with Madilin Murray Oh Hare, and the banning of God from public schools in the 1960's I could go on and on but have many other fire's to cool as of now !
I think it is funny when you hear him sing in his REAL voice. It is completely different. You Tube him singing Tumbling Tumbleweeds. You are in for a surprise. LOL
When they got rid of Chester, Festus became a better character, especially with Quint (Burt Reynolds). Dennis Weaver's character got stale. Ken Curtis would become a real co-star to James Arness.
