The magazine is an AICS pattern and the gun will take any off the AI mags in eluding the 5 and 10 round Magpul mags. They will seat with the bolt closed, you just have to squeeze it in harder. Timney makes a replacement trigger that is worth the money for this rifle.
Thanks for the video. I'm just now seeing it. I'm doing a series on this same rifle testing different hunting round, but I'm having issues and can barely get anything to group. I finally took the scope off and checked the rail screws. The first on i checked was set at 35 inch pounds. I noticed it had no thread locker on it so I added a touch to the LocTite Purple 222 and reset it back at 35 inch pounds. As I removed each one individually I found the remaining three felt as if they were 15 to 20 inch pounds as they were not near as snug as the first one. I rest them all at 35 with the thread locker. I'm hoping this resolves my issue of groups or the lack of. For a hunting rig with 100 yard or less shots all I need is an MOA group. Thanks for the review.
Yep, keep those screws tight and true. I've often had problems with new rifles, where you wrongly assume, if it has a scope base fitted it should be factory-set for the correct torque, which equally applies to the action screws too. That is now part of my pre-flight checks, as second guessing why a rifle is shooting groups the size of buckets is annoying and time wasting.
Problems with our gen II. It has issues feeding and the bolt will not latch with ammo. Without ammo it is fine. Right outta the box problems so frustrated wish we wouldn’t have purchased it.
Interesting review Pete. I am looking at new .243 and was interested in this rifle. Shame about the 2+1 capacity. As an aside I understand you "have" to do shorts but I hate them. I'm a baby boomer and as such have an attention span of way more than 2 minutes. Great channel love your work.
As a baby boomer myself, I was of the same opinion as you. My Gen Z daughter turned me on to it and it has shown a marked interest in subscribers. Yes Ruger brought its A-game to the American, but and although the mag capacity is not a big deal, it's a strange choice.
I have the Gen II in .243, and since it takes the AICS mags in .308, you can get five and ten round magazines pretty easy online. But with .243, I find any more than 5 rounds and you definitely need to let the barrel cool.
A Harris BRS (bench rest swivel), nice piece of kit, I’ve had two for years: 6-9” leg extension, lockable cant and quick release attachment. I’d stick my neck out here and say; ‘the best general use bipod ever’.
