Hello Ben The 2 metre band has been narrow FM for 20 or more years now. This is because there isn't that much room on 2. 70 Centimetres is a wider bans ( 10 MHz wide ) so there fore wide FM can be used. When doing these tests make sure you are both using either wide or narrow FM Try the FM test again using the same mode and see what you get. If you are still getting the same result then there is something wrong. Nice video all the best Wes.
Excellent video and very helpful. The producer tested 4m band on transmit, it had full current draw and a very small o/p power, so it really isn't designed for 4m.
Absolutely superb video Ben, I could certainly find my way round the basic radio now from your explanations and demos in this video, hope you have fun and keep the videos coming, 73 de G0VCW
Ben - Very well done video. I've been hoping there would be more videos pop up about this little radio. I've had one of these ordered for myself and it just arrived this past week. I'm hoping for lots of possibilities for this radio especially for portable operations. If you use a USB keyboard plugged into the back of the radio the entry of your call sign will work very well. Keep the videos on this radio coming. I'll be waiting for them. Thanks! Gerald - KG0VA P.S. I see you have couple more videos already.
Thanks Gerald. Glad you found it useful. I'll certainly try and upload more when I have time. I did wonder about the keyboard, I've tried it for CW but didn't try it for the callsign (I may even do a short video on it) Enjoy the radio, 73 for now.

Thanks for this video. I was considering buying this radio from Radioodity. Where it is listed as the qr20. That model does not come with the heat sink wrapped around it. I said WAS considering until I watched a video here on RU-vid where the poster did a power measurement on 6m to 80m. The power was all over the place as he switched bands. The worse was 1.5 watts on 6m. I can get more than that with my Baofeng UV-!!!. I guess it all depends who you buy the radio from and what model you get.
Great video Ben, thanks. Couple of questions if I might... is mic gain stored per band, or do you need to changed it every time you move to another band? Also, have you tried DMR?
What is the maximum ssb transmit I.F. Bandwidth capability of this rig? And what receive I.F. options second? Other modes if bandwidth. Does hf or vhf uhf effect those settings? Btw does this rig tx on 23cm ssb or fm? Being that 2ghz roof and all the options are available… Thanks!
Hey they just came out with the generation 4 of that radio the tuners really good in that radio plus it has a lithium ion battery and if you buy it with the modulars in you get a GPS antenna Plus you can work gmrs I think it's a cute radio thank you for sharing your your model yours is the generation 3
Thank you. My radio hasn't come in yet and I'm very anxious to try it out. When I ordered it, I wasn't given an option to get the GPS or DMR module. Are those things I can order later and put in myself... Have my electrical engineer friend put in for me? If so, do you know where I would order them?
Thanks for the video. An interesting little radio. Do you know if the NR is functioning? Also. is there a way to adjust the tone on transmit? I thought the mic sounded a bit Basey. Upgrading the mic might be a good idea. 73 de WA3RSL
Thanks for the video! You can enter the call sign using the menu on the TRX, altough it is far away from perfect. If you enter the call sign mode, you can switch between A,a,1,; by using the number one button. By holding it down, you can switch between the modes. I was able to enter my call sign after fiddling around for a few minutes. 73 de Michi OE8YML
Hi Ben - great video, considering getting one...I see Aliexpress are now offering a v4 model with 4m TX enabled - same price as Banggood who are still selling the v3 73, Charlie GI4FUE
Thanks for such an interesting video. Great shame it doesn't transmit on 4m, that's dealbreaker for me. As it's highest frequency is the 70cm band, they can't really call it "all band".
Sorry Ben, I have had two of these radio and I was most impressed but sad to say there were many problems, firstly they were both deaf on HF, one had no UHF Band, neither would connect to my W10 computer and I am still waiting for details of the drivers, the good part is after a bit of confrontation both dealers refunded my money and let me keep the radios, what does that say, well I am still working on it.
How do you feel about this radio after having it awhile ? I do not see many good reports on the Company itself Thank You ! PS..... You still doing anything with the Quansheng? Thank You
Hi, I've added a couple of videos over the past few months to my Q900 playlist ru-vid.com/group/PLXMfFSysu4iy46lH01Jg6L_XkJw8OWiIi&si=9jwr5_LJIZ7Aca9h The rotary VFO/encoder has definitely made a difference! I should really do a few more videos playing with both the Q900 and the Quanshengs! Thanks for watching & supporting my channel! 👍
Where can I find a support link, or an active group re: this radio for lots of little questions I have? And by the way, yours is the best video so far after a long, fruitless search for answers!
Thanks Robert, glad you've found it useful. There is a Q900 Facebook group and supposed to be a WhatsApp group chat, but I've not been able get that to work. This radio is new to me but if there is any specific questions, I'll try and find out answers for follow-up videos.
Hi, to be honest it really depends what I'm doing with it. If I'm mobile in the car I just use a 2m/70cms Nagoya for VHF & UHF or the Moonraker SPX-100 for HF. If I'm at home I'm either using the 4 element 2m beam from Moonraker or Diamond V2000 for 2m, 6m & 70cms or 66 foot end fed long wire for HF. Thanks for watching 👍
@@m7frs272 Great - many thanks. I have an ICOM 7100 which I bought second-hand in 2018 from ML&S for around £700 and it's a fantastic rig. I do have a Diamond V2000 tuned for 2m + 70cm and a HF vertical, but I am setting up a second QTH in a holiday home, so was interested in what you recommend. M7JAS
73, here Wilhelm DF7GT.....I m using the very good HERMES Lite II on HF.... Im looking for a transceiver also with VHF and UHF.....this could be the Q900. My Question: can I put this Q900 into my LAN like the Hermes. Im using SDR Console and better the SparkSDR with integrated FT8 Mode. Thanks for answering...best wishes from the Black Forest Wilhelm DF7GT
Hello Wilhelm. Apologies for the delayed reply. I've been looking to see if the Q900 is supported on SDR Consol. It's not something I've done or can find any information on, so I really can't say either way, yes or no. The instructions suggest it can use 3rd party application via the USB. If I can find out anymore information then I'll let you know or even make another video featuring the Q900, as I've not done much with it for a while. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. Ben, de M7FRS. 👍
This is a very nice radio, the only thing I don't like is no knobs only push buttons, I can imagine how tiresome my fingers will be simply but changing frequency and volume.
Hi, Ben. great video! I know you probably will but I am very interested in digital modes (ft8, js8call, psk31) and cw decoder and cw via keyboard. Thanks a bunch for a wonderful video! Alan KZ6B
Hi Alan, Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I've uploaded a few more on the Q900 including running FT8 via an app called FT8CN (although not very successful as yet) I will try and do some more short videos, including the topics you mentioned in the future when time permits. If you haven't already then please consider subscribing to the channel and click the bell to be informed when I add future content. Thanks again and best 73, Ben de M7FRS
It's a very good looking set. Pity it has no vfo spinner. That'd be a nice touch in my opinion. That right angled mic plug could be a bit of an incumberance! Informative video.
They are getting higher and higher in their pricing... To give an example, a real ham builds, like I built the original MCHF.... Not a CHINESE knock off!
By the way, I've been looking at so many videos and links, totally confused by all the name-changes of the radio (probably due to earlier versions being so buggy) that I finally found this video again and went through it and the manual line-by-line, and I've gotten a lot of it working. Seems I have a bad battery though, I can't transmit at all on battery without the radio shutting down. To top it off, I bumped the LCD screen slightly and the plastic cover cracked! I found a guy named Lewis at Revevis who may be able to get me a new covering without buying the working screen as well. Well, at least I'm having a lot of fun figuring this thing out, but due to the cracked screen I'm sure I can't return it now, as I was considering doing.
