You should use salt for fish tanks combined with using a heater for the fish tank, fish tank salt and a temperature of about 29 degrees will cure white spot disease.

Thanks for the info! Question: My water has tested perfectly and my tank is well cycled, so I am wondering if water softness is my problem. Tetras snd corys do well, but not guppies. My home uses clean well water , but we also have to use a water softener to raise the ph. Ph now is about 7.4, but is the water softener killing my guppies?

Maybe when the temperature drops, your heater can't handle it, heat shock will cause mass deaths, you need to cover the fish tank to keep the temperature stable, thank you for watching.

If they show signs of panic then they are stressed, if they seem tired lethargic then there may be a problem with the water in your tank, try changing the water by 50% and stop feeding for 1 or 2 days for further monitoring
i bought 3 guppy fish which cost me 1.5$ in pakistan . they were not be able to eat their food what i purchased from the shop . so shop owner told me to grind it because of its size .i make it in powder shape .it does not become in smaller shape .it comes in ball shape or i can make it powder .cant make it small by grind it in grinder machine . but it makes water blurry .so daily i use to change water in glass jug . but after 1 week all 3 guppies died .i gave them garlic juice added in their food . suddenly they all died in 24 hours one by one . i m very beginner in keeping fish . i dont know how to keep water maintained and temperature etc . i kept 5 molly fish in small aquarium .which is 1.2 foot square .they are fine .and its about to 1 month .1 fish gave 10 fry .and they are now 15 days old .they are doing well . but keeping guppy in molly aquarium was not suitable because they fight .molly hits guppy . and guppy were not be able to eat food because of food size . and to give powder of food cause aquarium blurry .thats why i kept them separate .but alas all 3 guppy died . i dont know what to do . molly fry are 10 yet .and they are separate in jug also .
molly fish are more resistant than guppies but they can live together, we guess your guppies are already sick when you buy them from the store, then you overfeed them for contaminated water, pathogens attacked the guppies and caused them to die. Our advice is that when buying guppies at the store, you should choose the ones that are strong, alert and show no signs of skin disease, and feed the fish very little so that they can get used to the new environment. good luck !

The reason why a lot of guppies are fragile is because they have become too inbred. Even the mutt ones have ancestry from inbred breeds. The intentional inbreeding caused disadvantagous genes to become common.
