1988 Saw the Gurkhas at Singapore shooting range 100m practise. Their target was a Coca-Cola can! And, oh my God, all of them did not miss!

Maybe because these guys hate Coca Cola and love Pepsi 😂

@@andrewbrown5300 That day I was only at the 100n range. So I have idea about 200m and 300m range practise

Back in the days and the two week Regular Army skill at Arms championships (RASAM)) plus the National rifle championship (NRA) held at pirbright and Bisley Ranges the Gurkha infantry and Gurkha signals shooting teams always produced winners in both team and individual matches , interesting when the SA 80 first made an appearance in the competitions a new shooting position was introduced which really favoured the Gurkhas , squating ! one would either adopt that or the kneeling position

Going on what I have seen on forces news, the British Army could try to emulate the Gurkhas in absolutely every respect and benefit hugely. As would the squaddies image which currently isn’t good.

Hire more Gurkhas if recruitment is a issue

Personally I think more Gurkhas would be a way to mitigate (not outright solve but help mitigate) this current reduced numbers and recruitment crisis. Taking on more Gurkhas doesn't necessarily mean lowering their standards. If for example they get 15000 potentials and they say they can only take on 150, they're going to choose those who they deem to be the best 150 but.... In cutting off the numbers arbitrarily they may have several hundred that far exceed even the moderate standards, say they get 600 or 700 that far exceed but they can only take on 150 so they'll take the absolute pinnacle. If they were allowed to take on several times more than usual they'd still end up with good blokes that score very far above the minimum and they'd get them because they're allowed the extra numbers. It's not going to net us tens of thousands of people.... But it would do something which is better than nothing. Unlike domestically there's no shortage of Nepali's wanting to come and try.

@@CoffeeFiend1This. I’m pretty sure every year loads of potential recruits meet the standards to join but only the very best among them get selected because the Army itself has a cap. Raising that cap could be an option

If they brought back the recruitment centers it would help more also have mobile ones to get out to other places and STOP schools and other being woke and banning school visits like we had back in the 1980's and 90's. Also make the cadet forces a lot better than they are now. When I was in the Air Cadets in the 1980's it was a lot better than it is now to be a cadet. I was messed about by the RAF when I left school but joined the army latter on when I had other skills that the army was real happy I had. Thank you.

I agree and stop wasting money on videos trying to recruit Muslims.

@@CoffeeFiend1 The simple way to get numbers up, would be to sack the private company who does the recruiting. My son wanted to Join the RAF for example. After 3 years of lost paperwork he decided to go to University, now he is a Junior CEO of Microsoft. He isn't the only person to suffer because of the lunatic idea to have a private company do the recruiting.

This is a very peculiar post. The Ghurkas are no better or worse shot than any British soldier; they don’t possess any indigenous skill set that a British recruit has. Their motivation is to escape poverty. The Ghurkas also have terrible problems with alcohol too.
@jamesmccann531
@jamesmccann531 4 месяца назад
Its not saying the Ghurkas are inherently better, its saying that the training they get is slightly different, which seems to work better.
@CoffeeFiend1
@CoffeeFiend1 4 месяца назад
In theory the average Gurkha should already be "better" than the average Brit recruit because they've been filtered down far more acutely.
@mikewinston8709

@@CoffeeFiend1 An urban myth sadly. In my 24 years (a 2434 from 74 -98) I never found that. They were the best of a poverty riddled recruitment drive. One might argue, certainly today, that they are slimmer than the modern British recruit who, being a reflection of modern Britain, is very fat indeed; like their parents.
