Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

You can see that when Gus threatens Walts family - I will kill your infant daughter! Gus also had no issues with using children to sell his product. And it is very likely that Gus was at some point involved in some kind of war crimes or the military in his home country. So yeah. He enjoys being a criminal.

It's a good reminder that you've got a heart when you let yourself feel for someone who definitely doesn't deserve it. That's not to say that all people actually deserve empathy, but it's more about you than them. It's letting yourself understand why they are the way they are rather than condoning it. The looks he gets that last couple of seconds when he slides the glass outta frame: Heart broken, understanding that this is the sacrifice he has to make to continue to be what he is trying to be. He can never show himself to anyone, never be weak or vulnerable. He can never be happy. He can only ever be Gustavo Fring

Loved this scene and watched it 3 times to learn something new about whine. I will drive to the south of France for my holiday in a few weeks and will make sure to find it. ❤❤❤

Peak TV Writing. To choose this scene as a farewell to a man so cold and ruthless as Gus is simply brillant. The first and last time - a glimpse of humanization, of a delicate man, confined in the dark forever. It's so goddamn sad.

Once Gus tasted that last sip of "bloody" tasting wine he knew he still had work to do, I almost feel bad for him, it'd be nice if he could just enjoy his life but his desire for revenge is too strong, but to be fair to him very few people could get over what he went through.

It’s funny because I kinda knew Gus was gay before the Hector scene, just like you can tell the waiter is gay… But I always felt bad Gus couldn’t let down his guard and be happy, this scene is a perfect example of Gus getting close to someone again and having them be ripped away from his side business

Happy belated pride month to Gus lmao. Btw, this is one of the only scenes in the BB/BCS universe where Gus does not have the power in the scene. Gus is totally vulnerable here; and that’s why he leaves. He also knows his business restricts his love life and intimacy.

Interesting responses. My take was this guy went through the whole description and it was the same bottle he had been saving for something special. The sommelier took that away from Gus. He can't have that experience of his first taste to commemorate the occasion he had been saving it for.
