I remember seeing them in early 90's. What struck me was how their vocal harmonies were the best I'd heard since the recordings of The Beatles. Yes, I went there.
That harmony in the chorus, with its subtle change of just one note the second time through it ("adore you" and "the morning" are different), is absolutely brilliant.
My dad was introduced to Guster in college. I've seen their disks show up in his CD collection since I was a toddler. I started college a few months ago and i have started listening to them. Such an amazing band.
I was *there*, maaan... :) Portland, ME, State Theater... If you buy the DVD of the full performance, there's one point where you can see my blurry head in the crowd from a great distance It's all very exciting.
I Love Guster. One of the very best bands of the last 20 years. Ryan Miller has an amazingly clear voice and Brian harmonizes as well as Brian Wilson ever did.
@@Edgepotts01 One of the original members of the beach boys. Great band whose music I grew up with. if you never listened to them look up Wouldn't It Be Nice by them its one of their best songs and so is Good Vibrations.
I have huge feelings for a girl and one night we spent together she brought a cd into my car and this was the first song on it. Wesat in my backseat together talking and kissing all night while the cd played over and over again. a few weeks later she pushed me away, and now we don't talk anymore. i listen to this song almost every day and i always think of her and it makes me sad because she's so beautiful and amazing. Happy :) and Sad :( at the same time. that's life. that's what makes life beautiful, isn't it.
I'll flat out say I'm a metalhead. I love death metal, progressive metal, black metal, but god damn I have a soft spot for these guys. I love Guster! :)
And you walked out when I asked you to stay As usual, you'll get your way You closed the door and stumbled down to the street Where you wring your hands and you drag your feet there Where the words can't find you To crawl inside you I'm ringing all the warning bells Careful, or you'll hurt yourself Others lie, lie, lie, they adore you I'll be the one to tell Careful, or you'll hurt yourself Gonna try, try, try 'til the morning comes But you can't hide standing under these stars They know everything, they know where you are You're in your head, you're all turned around with it And they're shining down their light to bring you back again Back where I can find you To crawl inside you I'm ringing all the warning bells Careful, or you'll hurt yourself Others lie, lie, lie, they adore you I'll be the one to tell Careful, or you'll hurt yourself Gonna try, try, try 'til the morning All you want to see is make-believe, it's nothing But way down underneath I'm ringing all the warning bells Careful you don't hurt yourself Others lie, lie, lie, they adore you I'll be the one to tell Careful, you'll hurt yourself Gonna try, try, try 'til the morning comes
The story about how I knew this song is so funny to me, I was trying to download "careful" by paramore but when I listened to it, it wasn't but I loved it and in fact became as my favourite song ever!!!! :DDD ♥
People need to shut up about the music industry being ruined. Mainstream has always been pretty shitty. It's bands like Guster that prove that the music industry is indeed alive and well.
@L2die I can agree with this. Though, it's more Hip Hop that's destroying that aspect because there is some real poetic Rap out there that's worth it. But i am afraid of my generation. They are in the palms of the executives of corporate record labels. The voice will be heard though. Independent labels and projects like this will become the mainstream, and hopefully songs like this will happen, or better. If not, the cycle starts again. But I love this song, it's an favorite of mine.
@gtarplyr18 Guster is a pop band, Beethoven is a classical composer. Let's leave it there. Is Guster on par with a Gershwin, Porter, Rogers & Hammerstein, Lennon/McCartney? No, not just yet. But as you say, there is a level of detail and craft in there that is absent from A LOT of what is out there today. I enjoy their work a lot, but when my ipod is on shuffle and they come up against a heavy-hitter, their shortcomings are apparent. Don't take away that this is a great song!
@L2die I don't like most pop and rap, but you can't say what music is real or not, since that is a relative term when it comes to judging music. If a Lamborghini and a Toyota were being compared, would calling one of them a fake car (or not real) make sense? They are both cars, just drastically different. Saying one of them was not real would not make any sense. Just something to think about.
@L2die If you're aware of the different uses, why would you use it wrong? You're right, you won't impress anyone with using correct grammar. That's like being impressed that someone can tie their own shoes. however, people will judge you to be less than intelligent if you use bad grammar.
@L2die This is an amazing song and so is this band, but to be honest, you can't keep bashing pop and rap. I think most of it is crap and all the same, but people like it. You can't tell people what music they should and shouldn't listen to, that's the beauty of music and our world. I agree that it's sad that this band isn't a huge hit, but it doesn't mean i hate lady gaga.
@L2die I totally agree, but for heaven's sake, learn some grammar. It's "you're" not "your". You're not in 4th grade, I think you should know better ;) Grammar Police, signing off..
@L2die I hate Gaga and JB too but you have to give them credit for having their own identity. they have no talent i clearly see that and most people do but she's an artist cause she's creative. this band has nothing. they're just like millions of other bands who have no character whose fans want them to make it but there is a reason they wont go anywhere.
@mimib1230 I'm sorry, you're just wrong. The music you claim to be "our generations music", isn't music at all. For you to compare mediocre pop and rap to Beethoven is moronic in itself. Beethoven knew REAL music more than you can comprehend. While this song by Guster isn't especially intricate in its musical composition, it is still more thought out, more thought provoking, and pleasing on the ears than any of the shallow lyricism of what you claim to be, "our generation's" music.
I Spy, Barrel of a Gun, Amsterdam, Fa Fa, Bad Bad World, and The Captain (to name a few) are all better than Satellite in my opinion. Satellite is ok but doesn't sound like a Guster song & is a little bland.
