I could feel your pain in your discovery inside the walls. I cant wait to see how you handle this problem

Also, as long as You remember Uncle Dan Cabin, it will live on. I know you are proud of your heritage and rightly so. You're doing good things.

How emotionally difficult that must have been. But I am excited to see the next piece. Made me a little teary eyed. Good job you guys

There is a tinge of sadness for me too at losing some of those boards 😔 Always a silver lining though. So I’m looking for the good. I’m just so excited to bring the architecture back to life. Thanks for your thoughtful comment 💗

@@Montana_Ranch_Rescue your window was incredibly beautiful! Could I actually talk with you about the windows? My husband and I are looking for that type of windows for our period cabin and home.

Yeah! Shoot me an email jessicajackson.jif@gmail.com Wood windows are SO hard to find. I’ll look up where I got these. Not the fanciest, but very classic

I like the idea of saving the old and basically building a new structure in the same style. It is also nice to work on a building that has no electrical or plumbing issues! In some ways you are lucky and others not so much. Always find the silver lining. Great job and perseverance.

Totally agree! Anytime I’ve gotten worked up over something I usually realize it’s an opportunity in disguise. Good things will come. I’m thoroughly excited to start the stone work 🙌🏻

It is sort of hard to comprehend that Montana didn't become a State until AFTER my paternal grandparents were born... You could build a Folly from the remains of the building when you're done. Put up a couple of the walls and make a garden spot. Leave the wood exposed and plant around it. It becomes a reminder of what was, but is just for viewing.

A folly is brilliant 🙌🏻 I’ve always wanted to build a stone folly… Honestly totally great & creative idea for Uncle Dan’s

Just devastating! I feel for you. But it's a good call. Vermin pee does not air out, especially after 100 years of saturation. I remember that smell from when we tore our kitchen cabinets out (the house had been sitting empty for 2 years). I can't even imagine what it would be like after 100 years! A hard call, but the right one. Also, you've got some serious building chops! Great job on that window!

Ugh it was a sad day realizing so much of the original had to go. But that smell! 😵‍💫 It’s been so fun rebuilding though-btw I love your greenhouse setup. Totally want to do the same!

It is a shame that you couldn't use the walls, but safer in the long run.

Great job on the windows! I never thought of the wood having such a bad smell but I do believe it now! Nice work you two!

Thank you so much! The windows have been a wild ride. Can’t believe Robbie drove over one 😤 😂 I salvaged some beautiful old ones too that I’d like to use for the operable windows-the old glass is just spectacular 🙌🏻

Clean it out, let it dry, spray with shellac based wood sealer ( the same stuff used to seal fire damage)

I did this for my 1880s farm house that had the same issue - worked great.

Hey that is brilliant! We have one really good wall-the north wall-that I REALLY want to try your method on. We have it saved and tucked away now. Cheers!

Almost forgot - clean it out using vinegar, then let it dry before sealing
@Montana_Ranch_Rescue

Vinegar, got it. Smart. I pulled nails and saved a bunch of boards today that I can try that trick on. Some, ugh, are so soaked through with mouse smell that I just can’t fathom reusing them 😬 Maybe it’s psychological 😆 but I just can’t try those
@garyknajdekjr4035

You could use a urine enzyme spray on the walls, would probably need to soak it pretty heavily though.

Oh that’s smart. Cheers! I’m sure it could lessen the smell.
