Thank you so for uploading this concert. I remember when i first heard LA freeway as a teen in 1976-77 not long after it was released. That tune and nearly his entire catalog defined my life now 62 years down the road ...'" gonna get me some dirt road back Street...". I picture Guy, John Prine and others of his ilk just enjoying singing and picking. I and Thankful to them for the blessings their music gave!
Really Miss Guy, a True Song Writer & Story Teller , A Friend to the Everyday Workin Living American Folks, So much thankful to uploading Such a Great man and A Style of Writing & Performing U see little of These Days 🤠🎙️🎸🙏👏
He had been gone for two years prior to me ever having the internet in my rural area at the time..my heart was broken to see how his life went..he was the first person i googled.. and at the same time somewhere in there I of course googled Levon Helmes..my heart was broken naturally..2017 i discovered Blaze Foley..of course Blaze was gone way before that but it made me love the internet..i got everything Guy Clark, Levin Helms and Blaze Foley Pat McLaughlin (a personal friend..sang at my wedding years ago and he is the one who introduced me to Clark and Prine😊), good music and good times..the internet lets me see all my hero6
What stands out to me is the half hearted effort to play quality guitar. I watched John Prine about three times in the 70's and the quality of his musicianship, though hardly complicated, was top notch. Guy Clark was a musician I didn't really become aware of till 2010 or so though I had always been a Jerry Jeff Walker fan and "Desperados Waiting for a Train" was a hugely influential song for me in the mid 70's.Then you come to see most of the Jerry Jeff songs you like were written by Guy Clark so you could say, I had heard the name Guy Clark simply by reading the album cover of Walker records and noting who wrote what songs but beyond that, was none the wiser.. I think the main reason why I hold Townes Van Zant in some regard is the fact that he was so close to Guy and Susanna. Otherwise, beyond "Tecumseh Valley" and "If I needed you" (which becomes strangely uninspiring when you hear Townes do it) there wasn't much I saw in Townes to appreciate. (I guess I needed to have been there)
Have you heard the non proper album versions of most of Townes stuff? Like Live the Old Quarter? Lot of his recorded output had superfluous flutes, strings, etc.
I knew all the people that were around him in the late 60s and 70s music scene. I dont how i missed him then , but i just discovered him a couple years. I knew alot of his songs that others recorded. He was so amazing. LA Freeway is a complete picture of the music at that time. Concerts at school gyms, coffee houses, total random places. This whole recording is so cool
