My 14 year old son this past year told me that he wanted to really get into playing the bass guitar. He's been in music class and after class all the time getting his teacher to let him play his Fender P-bass. For Christmas we got him a Harley Benton JB75 with a Fender Rumble 15 amp to get him started and to practice on. He's been listening to bass players from all over the spectrum to soak them up, Lemmy, John Deacon, Roger Waters, yourself, Geezer Butler, etc. to listen to how a bass is played from different perspectives. When he listens to songs he's always able to pick out the bass lines first with anything, he's always had an ear for it. I'm very thankful you're here putting the music out there for younger players hungry to learn. Thanks again for all you're doing.
That tremolo bass part to 'One Of These Days'' was awesome. I could see the projection of those hypnotic yellow circles and red lights in my mind as you played it!
I think for someone who's played it hundreds of times, he may have a bit different view of the song & it's simplicity. But for me, this video was fascinating!
Mr Pratt its not often we get to pass on the huge thank you for the years of entertainment and enjoyment received from watching live performances from DVD or listening to albums recorded. So please accept a huge and hearty "thank you!" for your work and the joy its made in my life.
I think one of my favorite things I've ever seen you do is the "Famous Disco Basslines" thing... probably because it was stuff you obviously loved (as do I... Bernard was so good). But looking forward to the Toy Matinee stuff. Thanks for taking one for the team; at least it wasn't "Play some Skynyrd man... play something we can dance to" :)
I always loved, loved, LOVED the version of One of These Days that was played throughout 1994. Especially in shows where the middle part went on for longer, and more sound effects and whatnot were sprinkled in
Spaniel with a Head injury had me falling off my chair laughing. Brilliant. Loving these lock down licks. Have to say i enjoy your solos on the various tours.
🙏🏻 Hola me encanta saber que solo tú llenaste el vacío que dejó la separación y siempre apoyaste a Nick y David solo albums...y que todavía hoy seas el bajista de ellos te hace parte de PINK FLOYD & i feel proud of you for that‼️ Por qué tú y tu estilo son únicos like PF‼️⚒
Not sure if anyone’s said it yet but the ending lick on Learning to Fly (Pulse) and the intro lick on Sorrow (Pulse) are fantastic and always a blast to listen to.
Love your playing,Guy! Have done for soooo many years. Loved your dad’s acting too, back in the day....yes, I am that old! :) Cheers and keep up the great work!! Jim
You really make me laugh, which I a good thing right now 😁but I'm completely broke so I had to sell my guitar a while back. I have a chronic pancreatitis and really miss having a guitar. If anyone of u music people have a old guitar I would be eternally grateful. Stay strong beautiful people and remember that your government are lying to you....🤔👊💛💚💙❤💛💛💛💎
Just finished reading his book "My Bass and other Animals". Who knew that angelic faced kid was such a "Wild-Child"! It's been a very long time since I laughed out loud reading a book!
Hi Guy, really enjoying your videos. Love the rambling and going off on tangents. My wife always tells me off for doing that! But I digress. Really enjoy your playing and was impressed how you fitted into Pink Floyd. Thanks for keeping us entertained. Keep safe and take care.
Despite its simplicity there's something about One of these days that sets my head rocking up and down. Hearing you mention Saucerful Of Secrets somehow led me to reading about Syd Barret. All I can say is Yikes.
Dear Guy. At first when I was watching this video, I didn't even realize who you are. I just thought, wow, that guy is great 😅 But now I know who you are… Shame on me, I’m sorry, but I forgot your name and my English apparently isn‘t good enough 😅 Thanks for all your videos, your great live and studio performances in past. Keep going on! Cheers from a formerly bass player from Switzerland.
Maybe, the solo itself is not that exceptional as you may have intended, Guy, but within the context of the song, it's just PERFECT. And that's why people love it so much.
This videos are a great musical break and a good laugh, too! I'm loving hearing the lines, and learning more about how you construct them. I'd be interested to hear more of the 'behind the scenes' storytelling you're doing. The ancient Mac Pro under your desk is a great touch. Maybe add some of your own history, your past comedy? I need to get a copy of your book My Bass and Other Animals. Keep 'em coming!
After the wall which was never my favorite. A few great songs came from that. Got busy with life. In the past year I found on you tube all the music from Floyd that I didn’t know was out there. Was so happy to see this young energetic guy doing the bass. Such an improvement from waters. Full of passion, personality and talent. What a career. You have not gone unnoticed.
I do agree that PF got a lot in bass with Guy. He is much better musicien than Roger. Sure, this one hashis quality in other points, but Guy added much more for bass. I really enjoy to see him on stage!
Guy, you may not have given it much thought but, the reality is that you've spent more time playing bass in Pink Floyd than RW did. Without getting into a "versus" argument and as a longtime fan, that means something to me. So, congrats on that milestone and thank you for sharing your talent, thoughts and humor during these troublesome times. Cheers!
I can't overstate how much I love these videos! As a total non-musician, it's fascinating for us to see *how* these songs are played, both with your techniques and the effects pedals. I also love your cheeky responses to the comments. Keep 'em coming!
I am literally pi*sing myself,,,that was brilliant.Thank you Guy...PS..give me a shout out, I've worked full time since this covid thing...Literally emptying bins and picking up dog crap !!! I am living life on the edge....lol
I'm 66 and have always enjoyed Pink Floyd. Your bass playing is exquisite and a real joy to listen to over the years. it's obvious you enjoy music and life in general. Was always was curious about the signal processing you used on One of These Days, appreciate the detail you go into on these "Lock Down" videos! Keep on being you, Guy!!
Hello Mr. Pratt, thanks for sharing your videos and your time with us. I don't care whatever the music you are going to play in these videos, It's a pleasure to see and hear you talking to us.
All I can say about Guys Bass Playing is it’s fucking brilliant and fucking loud. Docklands Arena 1989 during Pink Floyd Momentary Lapse tour, One Of These Days was so ridiculously loud, I almost spewed. It was like getting booted in my gut.
Thank you so much Guy! You're really fun&lovely... remember when I've eared your Money's bass solo at Venice live in '89, I exclamed "OHH WOOWWW"!!! I think you're a very very great musician 😊😃
Guy's videos are very educative, mostly because he is a nice bloke. I just try to imagine how positive and supportive everybody was in the band that powered those unforgettable tours...All great musicians, down to earth and funny. It must have been quite an experience to travel the world and do magic every night with the right people. Thanks for the memories Guy, I had the enormous privilege to see Pink Floyd in Mexico City two nights in April 1994. That was a dream come true and one of the magic happenings in my life...
Got kids?Looking for wholesome entertainment for them?My missus, @GeorgiaByng , has done audio and video readings of her popular Molly Moon books for free! www.mollymoonsworld.com/georgiabyng-reads-mollymoon/
I know this will piss some die hard floyd fans off but I saw all the post-Waters - Floyd tours plus Gilmour's solo tour and didn't miss Mr. Waters at all. And remember being really impressed with you Guy!! No small shoes to fill! - Still mourning Rick Wright ..RIP
Not taking anything at all away from Roger Waters' tremendous skill as a song writer, conceptual artist, and indeed stage presence; Guy Pratt is a much better bass player. He just is and I am almost positive the vast majority of people agree. Roger's genius is song writing, even Guy would admit that. Gilmour is a better bass player than Roger (most great guitar players are), he handled some of the more complex parts for PF over the years, especially the fret-less bass. But that is OK, everyone has their strengths for sure and that is why bands work so well.
WOW , Bass on one of these days ... I remember being a kid standing in the distance when you played the momentary lapse tour in Mannheim at the maimarktgelände. I will never forget the sound of the bass doing the groove , going into the delay based groove . Pure magic. Thanks Mr. Pratt for providing a childhood memory with images in my mind will never forget !!!
