The Franch music seems to have specifically developed the quintet for flute, harp and string trio. There are many examples - up to Jolivet. Here, we have a nice piece - a small tryptic - based on that fascinating combination of instruments. A delicious score.
Quite similar to Bloch's "Suite Modale for Flute and Orchestra", written in 1959 at his small home on the Oregon Coast. No doubt Bloch was looking out over the Pacific Ocean. Bloch had led an agitated life, but looking west from Agate Beach soothed him. The Jewish Angst dissipated a bit. Ropartz was an "earthy guy." Bloch adored Nature.
