I don't understand why people are hating this video, it does not matter that Afro Guyanese are not prominently featured. It's just good to see our people succeed and everything they said applies to most of us. We are hard working, we do value respect, we do tend to start businesses and be home owners.

This was a nice documentary, I don't understand why the negative comments about race, I guess who commented the negative has no listening comprehension, it did not stated any discrimination towards all the race in guyana, the people in the video is Guyanese, Guyanese American, they live in America, the Guyanese culture is not dead it is alive in little guyana so no matter where you born, you carry your guyanese culture with you no matter if you are indo-afro guyanese ... guyanese is guyanese in the end...

Why are some of you folks being ignorant calling this documentary racist as the primary focus is Queens, NY. It only makes proper sense to focus on a particular area where the majority of people (Guyanese) reside which is Queens, right? Think they would do a Jamaican or Haitian documentary and focus on Manhattan or Staten Island over Brooklyn. Yes, Queens have more Indo Guyanese over the 5 other race "outta GT" but it certainly has a larger population of Guyanese in a confined vicinity. Sometimes I wonder if people mind is what makes them utter the silly race card remark. One love to all no matter the skin color!!

I am 86 years of age, my mother is Afro Guyanese and my father is East Indians, I lived most of my life in Guyana and the United States and I can testify since growing up I never heard my mother family in fact any person of African descendant say something positive of any other race, they has always been negative and ready to put the blame on someone else...I believed this video reflects the real image of our society and everything said here is true, almost everyone that left Guyana leave because of Burnham and the PNC regime that was oppressing the people, especially East Indians not allowing them to work in government offices unless you are a PNC supporter or married to a African, while terrorizing, murdering, raping and robing thousands causing them to fled to other countries.

For a change you are telling the truth and all races suffered during PNC regime but it seems there is so much hate towards Indian people still although they suffered the most. I was very young but remembered the sixties when the country under curfew and British soldiers were there

Hello ty Ram, Its not Guyanese are that negative, but people from different countries pretending to BE Guyanese trying to stir up racial hatred, Guyanese on the whole get on well with one another, but their are powerful out side forces trying to stir things up.Guyana only had a so communal violence for a short time in the 1970,s a month or so, and since then we have not had it since then and previous to that also,so for that short time ,Guyana has been tarnished with this race thing, and there are racist films like bitter harvest who are trying to stir things up,so if you see so called Guyanese saying racist things, most likely they are black British, who think they know Guyana, or some indians from india,or Jamician africians I failed for that trick my self,on till I realise how they talk that these people are not Guyanese. But most of the hatred comes from the black British.

LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM last interview should be watched. You mentioned what PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM supporters did? He was a visionary. He was hated by the Jagan followers because he encouraged his people to become self sufficient. HE LOVED ALL NOT JUST INDIANS. ? Guyana late PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM at the time promoted love for all Guyanaese. The late PRESIDENT Cheddi Jagan with his the first lady was officially supported with funds from the WHITE HOUSE. The USA found out that Jagan was becoming friendly with the Russians who the USA considered their enemies. They warned him to stop being friends with Russia or they would be consequences. Jagan refused he knew that he had more supporters than the opposition leader. The USA wanted stability in South America. The Trade union at the time was controlled by Cheddi and Janet Jagan first lady. Instead of maintaining peace they were encouraging their supporters to miss treat the Ameridians, Chinese, Portuguese along with the blacks including some Indians. The late PRESIDENT LINDEN SAMSON FORBES BURNHAM was just a member of the union at the time spoke of injustices for all the trade union members and they decided to walk out until they were treated with respect. Things were said by the then late PRESIDENT Cheddi Jagan along with his wife which cause civil unrest the people went on strike riots broke out. Cheddi Jagan no longer controlled peace in his country. This reflected the negative side for the American who were in charge of making and breaking presidents. They saw the late PRESIDENT LINDEN SAMSON FORBES BURNHAM as a man who they could control plus he could maintain peace. The man in the white house at the time called the British and told them Cheddi Jagan reflected a negative impact on the Guyanaese people and the election law should be change in order for fair voting system. WHITE HOUSE after indepth conversation with BRITAIN suggested to them that they invited Cheddi Jagan and the union representatives who at the time was our late PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM to sign a peaceful agreement. Unfortunately they told Cheddi Jagan to come alone. Jagan went alone. Late PRESIDENT LINDEN SAMSON FBURNHAM went with his lawyer's and his advisers to the meeting held in England and sign an agreement concerning the change of the election from "first past "the post to "proportional representation". Previously the voting law of "first past the post" meant the Indians who had the most people in the country would always win the election. Both parties signed the agreement which unknown to JAGAN put the nail in his coffin. The United states PRESIDENT wanted a certain kind of President to run for Guyana so they actively funded the late PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM. Who they perceived to be on the side of AMERICA and not friendly with Russia who was their enemies. When election came the GUYANAESE voted for The late PRESIDENT LINDEN SAMSON FORBES BURNHAM who won the election with a majority which included Indian supporters. Guyana was at peace for ten years. Within the ten years the LINDEN HIGHWAY was built. Guyana had the best university in the carribbiean. Guyana was exporting wood and various metals, sugar, rice, gold diamond and other things internationally. They invited Jamaicans and others from the carribbean. They was given money to come live and help build Guyana because there wasn't a lot of people in GUYANA. This is why you have a large Jamaican decendents in LINDEN. There was researchers made for the Kaieturs falls to be used for electricity for the whole of the CARRIBBIEAN. The feasibility study completed highly recommended. We had hospital schools and large manufacturers exporting worldwide we built colleges everyone was happy. Things started to go wrong when a decision for collaboration between The late PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM became friends with China, CUBA Grenada. Venezuelan. Brizillian Not only that setting up CARICOM within the diaspora encouraging people from the diaspora to have one currency exchange rate. Eastern Carribbiean dollars. Plus selling their products at a set price between themselves. This invited contention from both the WHITE HOUSE and Britain who didn't want to pay higher prices for products imported from Guyana. The WHITE HOUSE saw this as an affront. They told the late PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM to stop or there would be serious consequences. Burnham refused so they along with BRITAIN put an embargo on GUYANA. The impact of EMBARGOES was to stop supplying GUYANA with flour, oil , and other products. Burnham told his people that they must now learn to be self sufficient. The people made casava flour. Plantain flour. Yam flour. Including other things They used coconut oil. Instead of mixed fruits they used five finger and other fruits in their cake. They was resilient. AMERICA and BRITAIN STOPPED TRADING in GUYANA. Jagan followers and others who their money and travel abroad where they blamed the late PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM. IMF asked the late PRESIDENT LINDEN FORBES SAMSON BURNHAM to predict Guyana growth for the following year. In The last LFSB interview BROADCAST he said in his own words that he told them 2.5% but it was actually 5%. During Burnham period even with an EMBARGO put on his country and the majority of JAGAN supporters leaving the country he was still able to run the country and pay off all of Guyana debts. Guyana was the ONLY COUNTRY who was not in debt to the IMF. Then years later the opposition party came in and open the borders allowing in Cocaine from Columbia. Borrowed money from IMF. Facts is better than fiction. ?

Thank you for the information. My parents also spoke of President Burnham and some of the policies he implemented but your detailed comment goes into for depth. Most of these so called documents only speak of the indo people. You rarely hear about the Amerindians and Afro Guyanese. With the control they have òf Guyana it is a free for all, they literally think they own Guyana and its natural resources. which they themselves / their political party & other countries are benefiting and the native/afro Guyanese population are suffering. I think Guyana the garden city was much better off then.

This is a story with many false narrative. Burnham indeed banned many items that's why many of these goods were smuggled through Surinam to Guyana putting many Indo Guyanese in jail for the same item that was banned. Please get your facts. If Jagan did not encourage the people to go abroad to study and work ,Guyana would have still continues to be backward people like Burnham and still starving for food .

S E you said it. BURNHAM was sent in by the Americans he played with them and for 10 good years Guyana was doing well then. Suddenly they realised he was too friendly with others such as CUBA whom theey considered uncontrollable. Guyana needed you and instead of staying with us you ran. When the going gets tough. You go. Why shouldn't USA AND UNITED KINGDOM, Europe and others keep you poor. Instead of you holding your head up you have to bow down to whatever they give you. They can throw away your green card. No matter how much work you do in America, no matter how many years you stay in America when they say go "you gotta go man ". Surely you don't think you are wanted there. They have set deportation guidelines even during this CORONAVIRUS EPIDEMIC. PEOPLE ARE STILL BEING DEPORTED 2020. LOOK UP THE JAMAICANS DEPORTATION FOR THIS APRIL. 709 on average. It's not just AMERICA. OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES INCLUDING UK are also finding time to deport. Infact it's better now because since DONALD TRUMP STOPPED AMERICAN BUSINESSES FROM SENDING MASK OR ANY OTHER PPE WHICH WAS ALREADY PAID FOR BY OUT SIDE COUNTRIES. DISCONTINUE IMF. STOP PAYING BACK YOUR DEBTS TO AMERICA. START BUILDING YOUR OWN COMMUNITY. MEXICO DON'T PAY AMERICA ANY MORE DEBTS. KEEP YOUR FUNDS AND START CARING FOR YOUR PEOPLE. THEY ARE DYING LIKE FLIES now they are being sent home yo kill there people with their CORONAVIRUS. THAT'S WHY I'M SUGGESTING IMMEDIATE EFFECT STOP PAYING BACK YOUR DEBTS TO AMERICA AND THE IMF LOAN THE WORLD BANK DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU FACE TO FACE THEY WANT YOU DEAD. WE HAVE TO ACT NOW. THEY ARE THREATENING OUR COUNTRY'S. IF THEY DON'T ACCEPT THEIR PEOPLE VISAS WILL BE DENIED. THE AIRLINES ARE PRESENTLY BEING HEAVILY SUPPORTED WITH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO FLY TO ALL THOSE BLACK COUNTRIES WHO HAVE CLOSED THEIR BORDERS. OUR LEADERS ARE BEING OFFERED MONEY TO OPEN UP AND ALLOW CORONAVIRUS TO KILL OFF OUR PEOPLE. 😓🤕😭😭😭

But thats not possible because, the population in Guyana is about 800,000 people. So, there can't be 700,000 black people and 300,000 Indians. "The largest ethnic group is the Indo-Guyanese, who make up 43.5% of the population, according to the 2002 census. They are followed by the Afro-Guyanese, who constitute 30.2%." This is from google.
