I remember when I was a small kid and I had played some wc3 and my brother told me about this new game coming out called World of Warcraft and that in that game, you just control 1 character. And I remember how confused I was over just the concept of controlling just 1 character as opposed to multiple units in WC3, trying to wrap my head around that idea, ofcourse 1 character games had already existed prior but I hadn't played any that weren't single player.. Like you just play 1 character and it's in this world with a bunch of other people playing aswell.. Like how does that work?? And I recall we had this game magazine right, that featured WoW and kind of like a small guide (this might have been a bit after release, I don't recall when during vanilla my brother got the game, but I know we had this magazine at some point and it was prior to him having the game).. And I was so fascinated with it, having read that magazine easily over 100 times, or at least the WoW section over 100 times, just looking at the pictures and whatnot.. What really had me interested was all the animals a hunter could have and what food they wanted and some tid bits like that... It was so surreal. I believe we have that magazine still around somewhere. The magazine was called something like "Level", could have been something else, I do remember that magazine and another combined at some point, unless I'm mistaken. And looking around on the net trying to find the one that I had read, I saw one with Lich King and I remembered we had that or something similiar to that which I know talked about the WOTLK expansion and the weapons.. I think even Frostmourne was in it with stats at that point in time.

Wow in its prime was something else.... It was the perfect game for the perfect time of the internet, the original wow experience will never be recreated imo. The game was growing asnd developing based on what people did, and it was one hell of a ride. World pvp back in the day was unlike anything else, GIANT battles going on for DAYS... to light skirmishes for weeks/months, all levels involved. Every time I started a toon and went to quest in STV, it ended up I spent months in there, just cause the world pvp was so much fun and made questing difficult lol

I played everquest from launch. It was a rough game as far as no map, death = running back to get your gear and xp back. Or having to get a necro to summon your corpse to you. It was constant competition to get tags on bosses in open world to get a .01% chance at a drop item on kill. Was super fun though and you felt like you earned everything you had.

Back when I played wow I was about 19 or so give or take, alot of my guild was made up of grown ups, talking about people with houses and bills to pay etc lol, it was a wide group of people who played the game. Not many game like that where you could have a group of people playing from all ages of say 12-49 or whatever as it was a game everyone could play at their own level, so it brought people together. When I first stoped playing way back in the day, what kept me playing for atleast 6 months was the comms with the lads on the bgs, listening to them cuss out when they died etc was priceless lol.

What a detailed history and honest take on the existing situation at Activision Blizzard. It's a real shame in a way, especially when you see the gamers of old waiting outside shops and the culture as it were just fills me with this odd combination of happiness and dread, altogether. I guess in a way it's part of the reason I seldom ever play retail anymore and just mooch about on TBC classic, yes there are the bots and yes, the spirit is very different now but it's as close as I feel I can get to what I loved and remember. Thanks for the reaction video Guzu, I enjoyed it.

Funny to think what role a game played in my life. Even though I gave up retail a long time ago I got back into it a little when Classic re-released and really enjoyed another taste of Vanilla.

The level boost was horrible for botting, but they didn't even try to stop it, so it just led to an exacerbated issue from the offset. Overall I don't think it caused many issues outside of that, of course that one issue being massive was a problem. If it had to come to the game, it should have had the 1 boost restriction, but should have also required at least a level 58 character to do so. It would have drastically cut down 99% of the problems stemming from it.

About that price of graphic cards, my pc is worth around 200 euros, think big majority of players dont really have 1k to drop on full pc not to mention just graphics.

People complain about pay to win but I never spent a cent on wow retail, I played wow classic and people were trying to sell me items in raids I was part of and one of the top damages in? They didnt just try get a little gold trhey were asking for 100's of dollars worth of gold? I just got my pvp gear and quit because I felt like it was the biggest waste of time

I'm an OG gamer, played the stand up video games in the 80's, the atari 2600, 1st nintendo etc.... Of all the gaming I've done in my life, Playing WOW when it was 1st released and experiencing it with everyone for the 1st time is easily the funnest gaming of my life. So glad I got to experience that. those who didn't missed out. I still have a love for WOW and hope that it never dies. I plan to return again, my hunter has all the unique pets and I will be so sad if the servers shut down for good. We all put out lives into this game and I love knowing it lives on even when I'm taking a break.

They should have never done character boosts and even more so they should have never done it in classic, its all about playing the game with others, when you level you find others leveling and get into groups. At the VERY least what they should of done was just sold a token that boosted the amount of xp your character gained. that way you would still have to play alongside others in an mmo.

i mean in all fairness Runescape is still going really strong to this day with the release of oldschool and letting people vote on content

Really sad to see what the game became, for me as someone who played from the end of Vanilla until Wrath without any break Legion was a really good expansion. One of my favorite ones, sure it had some issues but overall it was really great :)

I'm so glad I stopped supporting Blizz right after the death of Nostalrius. In fact that's what got me more interested in private servers for real. Seeing how the company as a whole kept putting out turds and being the typical big evil AAA business it is nowadays I don't regret my decision. ^^

Imo, the wow world got too big and divided. Every expansion they add a new zone for players to go to, in doing so they made the old world DEAD..... How can they expect to get new players to a game when they load into a world and its fucking dead for 50-60 levels. And how can they expect to retain players, when everyone is pushed out to "new and exciting" lands each time, being pushed further and further away from the core old world. In doing this they made player interaction a thing of the past. And that is what made wow GREAT. When I'm levelling in a mmo, I WANT TO SEE HIGH LVL PLAYERS. I want to see the mlg gear they have so I can be like yep, I wana try get this item and that item. I want to be able to talk to high level players and ask them anything. You cant do that shit in wow anymore, because if your levelling you WILL NEVER SEE ANYONE because they are in some other far off land that you don't have access too. Do you see how fuking retarded this is? All they had to do was make high level content mixed into the old world... for eg add a giant mountain that was created by a massive earthquake in the barrens or some shit then add high lvl content, a massive underground system to explore and raids and bosses down there. Then newer players would be able to see high lvl people doing stuff in the world while they are leveling and they wouldn't all just quit because of "dead game" This would also bring alot of the player base back to the old world and fill it with life again. So sad man, great game. But AB got it sooo wrong.

EverQuest was one of the best MMOs created. What shot them in the foot was their lack of exposure and the fact that EQ2 did not allow you to transfer character data. You had to restart from scratch. Fuck SOE
