First off, thank you for taking the time to do an exhaustive review of this product. I found your review only after I had watched several others. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more content like this. Your production is superb, but more importantly, your content is thorough. You saved me from making a very costly decision on LED panels. I immediately purchased a 3 light kit of the 1000D and to my surprise, the Amazon Store has a limited time promotion for 3 free soft box diffusers. I was going to purchase them anyway but this was a $150 savings on the kit. The only question I have has to do with longevity. The build quality looks to be very good. If they last beyond the warranty period the all fail, I’m still in good shape. Thanks again.
Thank you VERY much for your extreme kind words, and for subscribing. You definitely made my day, and folks like you are the reason I work so hard on these reviews, because it’s worth it. Yes, these reviews are exhausting to make and to watch too 😅. About warranties and product longevity, I have an old 50RS (the very first series with no FX) that I’m yet to see that fail. In the event it does, you’re yet to try GVM customer service. This company cares more about their name than saving a couple hundred bucks... If something is not right, they take care of it and *fast*. No BS either. Thanks again for the love and your support 🙏👍
Do the lights only work when you have two batteries installed? I can't seem to get it to run off of just one battery. Also with two large NPF batteries will it automatically use them both or do I have to hit the switch? Last question... how long will the lights run?
1- Yes, it requires two batteries to work because of the amperage it needs. 2- the batteries are drained simultaneously. 3- the light will run depending on what batteries you have, how much you spent on them regarding the quality of its cells, it’s age and the size. To calculate how long a light will run on a brand new battery: Most Sony batteries are 48 watt-hour batteries. The GVM 1000D panel is 45 watts. Divide the 48 watt hour battery with the 45 watts of this panel. 48/45= 1 hour, 6 minutes at 100% blast. At 50% will be 2 hours, 12 minutes.
Thank you for this Video... I wish I saw it earlier. I’m on my 4th Purchase of LED PANEL Lights and I ended up buying & liking my GVM-1000D RGB. ☺️🙏George Amodei
I haven't found a single GVM light that didn't spend the extra money to include metal barn doors. It's so annoying getting plastic junk that is cracked from shipping.
To me… These barn doors on the entry level GVM lights don’t really do anything….All my GVM panels, I have them removed. The higher end GVM ones do have barn doors made of metal. GVM YU300R, which I also have. (Barn doors on this model is optional and separate purchase). All metal. A GRID is much better than barn doors imo.
A bit too techy of a review. It would have been better if you went directly to situational uses. Particularly regarding the needs of Vloggers and photographers, how well do these perform during production? How harsh are the shadows on the subject due to being a smaller light source? I appreciate the work, thanks.
Hey, thanks for watching and welcome to my channel. Well, for most people, it’s required to be a tech review. I’ll help you out and go by topics. 1- for photography, the 1000D is definitely not powerful enough. You need at least a 300 watt LED. 2- “how harsh are the shadows on the subject”… Right in the beginning, 4:15 I demonstrated all of that and very clearly, and even using a subject showing how the light performance will look like. It’s absolutely a complete video. 3- these little panels are great to provide background lighting, walls etc. For main light, I recommend that you get a COB light, which you can install any kind of light modifiers.
@@ArtVideoProductions Appreciate your response. Thanks for the break downs in your points "1" and "3"... However your point " 2" I watched your vid in full, however the time stamp you gave does not address my original question about shadows. My mAin point I'm making about "techy" is that you use a lot of words to relay your experiences. There is not much visual examples throughout. A lot is lost in the techy talk when trying to explain visuals. Thanks again.
Can you do a comparison between this light and similar range light from neewer brand? Also can you show how this light works when this is used a your main key light ?
Hi there, did you watch the video?? All that is in there in the 5 minute mark. 2- I only have the Neewer 660 RGB which is more powerful than the 1000D, that wouldn’t be a fair comparison.
@@m1oj499 Ah, ok LOL. No problem. For key light, that little built in diffuser won’t do. It’s too thin and will cast some shadows. You do need extra diffusion. These lights are great tho...Thanks for watching the video :)
The GVM 1000-D measures 10” wide. To attach those soft boxes, you’ll need to remove its barn doors and will block about 10% of the 1000D’s LEDs, assuming the current soft boxes you have is designed to fit 800D panel sizes.
@@ArtVideoProductions I was thinking of these from GVM, do you think they could fit the 1000D ? www.gvmled.com/collections/softbox/products/gvm-softbox-for-480ls-560as-800drgb-series-led-lights-11-x-11
Thanks:) Master/Slave is an universal term used on everything and every piece of equipment that controls one another including your Flash. It’s not GVM’s name “invention”. Master / Slave is better as we’re all used to.
@@ArtVideoProductions just because it's been used for a long time doesn't mean it's ok. I get it, but in today's politically correct world and the land of the snowflakes, it's bound to upset someone. It's also 2021, better terms are out there. Regardless the lights are phenomenal, I bought 3 and have had many compliments from clients on them.
A 33 minute long video, loaded with micro details on everything. If I didn’t show controlling the lights individually, it’s because it’s simply not possible. You can only log in 1 light at a time, then set the rest as slave.
Here I was thinking that I was the only one who hated the display on the older models. This is great when you have to read the light from far away and making changes from far via your phone. Edit ... spoke to soon .. just saw the highest model went back to the old back panel .. smh
Bought a pack of 2 after viewing your review thank you. (Want to add one light as mostly a key light but want it Bi-color and I'm a little confused which one to get Godox Sl 100bi or GVM G100W Bi what can you suggest? The Godox Sl100 seems to be new asking a comparison with GVM G100W bi)
I recommend the 1000D. It’s only 5 watts less power BUT, it’s got Bluetooth. That alone should do. Plus, while controlling the 1000D via the app, your phone’s internet is available even when using the App!
thanks man. you put so much effort into the review but some of the most important things did not get addressed and that is a bit of a shame. I watched it all to the end and still have questions: 1- The declared light quality and the actual one - CRI 2- Light intensity in Lux from a distance of 1 m 3- Option to configure each lamp separately from the app 4- The quality of the tripods that comes with the kit 5- Can the model be used as the main light or not again, thanks BTE some of the affiliated links are broken.
1- CRI: 97 Beam angle 45︒ 736 LEDs 2- Lumen : 15000lux/0.5m, 5000lux/1m Power : 45W Voltage : AC:100-240V 3- you can’t control the lights separate, either via the App or via master-slave. 4- the lightstands, ate very generic and I showed it on most other GVM lights I’ve reviewed. I didn’t here this time to save a bit of time 🙂 5- (in the 4 minute mark) yes you can use as a key light and I also showed it in many ways, including adding diffusers and using a translucent disc (the best way to do keylight with these panels be placing them behind making a bigger light source) Thank you also for letting me know the links are broken. If a seller changes the listing that can happen. Thanks
Hey Luis thanks again for another great video that's informative and descriptive of the operations of the light. Be safe and looking forward to your next video.
Hi, thanks for the review! I need to light a studio for video recording, I was wondering if this is enough or I should get the 1200d . The studio is small, and that’s the reason why I want to go with these instead of big softboxes. Would you recommend using a soft box with these? If so, is the one from gym good enough?
Noting that you mentioned you have a small room and don’t want to use softboxes, I would recommend the GVM1500D. It’s more powerful and I can guarantee you’ll need it. I also reviewed that panel. I’ll put the link here. GVM 1500D |2 KIT | 75 Watt LED Panel Review and Lighting Tips ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D0UK0v35ITM.html The link to get it is in the video description. Also, when using panels to light people, always use an additional layer of diffusion in front of the panel for softer light. For background lighting, you don’t need.
Oh I see thank you for your answer! Will the Gvm soft boxes be enough? Do you think the 2 light kit will be enough or I need 3? I need to light a vinil backdrop and myself when shooting videos, I will shoot haircutting tutorials. The depth of the room is 4 mt if that can help
@@rbheedu I would get 3 lights. And GVM makes the softboxes designed specifically for the 1500D. Yes, the softboxes will provide you a very decent diffusion.
for customer interviews, would you recommend 2-light or 3-light 1000D kit. also, for travel are these lights small enough to take carry-on for flights to location
That you have to check with TSA. I don't have this light available to measure. For interviews, these light s require an additional layer of diffusion in front for the smoothest light possible. I utilize these little panels primarily for background light and accent. For main key light, I recommend COB chip lights with Bowens mount for a softbox.
Thank you for a fantastic review; so helpful. I watched your light meter - I am not positive, but I thought your settings and results at the end with the meter display (for the 1000D) were: ISO 800, shutter speed 30, F stop 11. Is that correct? I've been looking for a solution which probably only exists if I could afford a $2000 dollar system, which would allow me to use LED lights for still photography as well as video. But it looks like they are not strong enough for that, really, if I'm right about what I thought I understood on your meter. Can you please give me your opinion on that and tell me if I read that meter correctly? Thank you.
That’s correct. The 1000D f stop you saw was F11.1 (11). As for power, keep in mind these panels are 40watts (800D) and 45 watts (1000D). If you are shooting something bigger than a small room, consider getting a COB monolight which not only it’s more powerful, it allows you to place any light modifier you want in the front of that light, such as a huge softbox. THEN, use these panels for everything else, hair light, background accents... this is how I use these lights which they are great for that.
Do you know what the difference is between 1000D and 880RS? They are similarly priced, the 880RS consumes more power, but the 1000D is advertised with twice the output of light. Something doesn't seem right to me. Is the 880RS considered flood light and the 1000d more directional?
That’s correct. The 1000D is more directional and the 880RS is flood. The 1000D is advertised with more power comparing with the 800D. Nothing to do with the 880RS.
@@ArtVideoProductions I am just comparing their lux values, with 1000d having double the lux basically. But I figured that would more likely just make it rather directional. Not a bad thing I reckon, but depends on the situation.
I would definitely check this out. The GVM 1500D. It’s not only the brightest panel of this types, but also the most accurate in color as you change the brightness. It’s a few bucks more but worth it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D0UK0v35ITM.html
@@jean_pierre247 I sold my 1200D after I got the 1500. Strongly suggesting.. Get the 1500D. And it’s also beautiful and WIDE. Link is in the description btw.
Question regarding output of this light, vs 1200d: This light (1000d) is 45w and has 736 total LEDs. 640 white/tungsten bulbs. 96 RGB bulbs. the 1200d has 928 total LEDs. 448 white/tungsten bulbs. 224 RBG bulbs. My questions is, since the 1000d has more (640) bi-color bulbs, but 5w less power, would it have higher or lower output than the 1200d with less (448) bulbs, but more wattage? When will your 1200d video be coming out?! Also, which would you prefer to buy first, if you had to chose?
@@ArtVideoProductions sounds good! Thanks. I ordered and received a two pack of 800 D kit lights, I have not opened them yet. I got them for 175. Should I return them and plan on getting either the 1000d or the 1200d?
@@ArtVideoProductions thanks for the quick reply. Sorry for that question but I'm always training my ear in detecting accents. Um abraço amigo de um Português em UK para um Brasileiro em US. ;)
@@ArtVideoProductions Wow, fantastic! You're a polyglot!.. I only do and teach Chinese Martial Arts (for decades now) but I don't speak Chinese beyond saying "Hi" or "Thank you". I do speak French aside from English... A bit of Spanish and Italian. But no Chinese, I admire your knowledge! I actually have another RU-vid account for my film work (I'm a professional cinematographer - kungfu is a part time thing). I loved this video and although the 1000D and the 1200D might be slightly out of budget (I saw your other video), this made me choose the MB832 instead of the Neewer 660. I hope it's a wise choice because it will cost me twice the price. :)
@@mikungfu on the MB832, make sure, for key light, you add diffusion in the front of the panel for a wider and softer light such as the Rosco #3008 Tough Medium Cinegel Filter (20 x 24" Sheet) (BH photo)
The R50R288 will work with the WIFI lights using the App, and keep in mind the 1200D is a Bluetooth unit and will only work with the 1000D as they are both Bluetooth, including the “slave” mode. So if you’re planning to buy the 1000D you can use the 1200D together operating them and mix / App and Master-Slave. You can’t mix WiFi with Bluetooth lights on App or slave mode..
At 18:30 you never showed us using multipleights at the same time, what’s it like if you had 4 on Bluetooth can you control them individually easily? Or 3 and 1 separate
@@Cironezone my bad. I realized after I uploaded LOL. I believe you can control up to 16 lights at once, making sure they are on the SAME channel. And keep in mind that WIFI GVM lights will NOT work with Bluetooth GVM lights. The App is different and so is the circuitry when controlling via Master / Slave.
