I am never likely to buy one of these Thomas, being just a keen amateur - but for all the useful information over the past year or so and for your infectious enthusiasm, enjoy the coffee!

Very thorough review, thank you. Would like to know how this light fits within the overall marketplace of similarly powered lights.

Good question. In my personal opinion it is placed as a professional light at the best price possible without a compromise regard build or lighting quality. It is definitely not the cheapest option, but it is one that does not cut any corners. Hope this helps!

Hey! The light is almost perfect but I heard the bowens mount is a bit differnt from other brands. Did u try to use non gvm modifers on this one?

I've used non-oem Bowens modifier and it worked. I've heard that as well, but so far no issues. Best, Thomas

So far no issues - I use a non-GVM mod from time to time and it fits perfectly. Best, Thomas

I have to ask you, if you noticed the Kelvin Shift as Wes Perry mentioned in his video "I Retested EVERYTHING - A Close Look at Video Light Color Accuracy"? In that video, he sees a shift in temperature of the light going from 5600 -> 6400K when lowering the intensity from 100% -> 10% . Have you seen the same?

What a professional user likes: it's always an interesting element. Even if, due to my personal use for macro, I'm using now a simple, cheap, lightweight illuminator: Raleno PLV-S116. Only 12W, but I easily insert it in my bag, and it can brighten my subject when it is very close to my lens, as usual in macro photography. Why not a flash? Because it is lighter, soft, compatible with focus BKT and I can move around to brighter the darker side of the subject. Varying the color light, I can easily accomodate it to the ambient condition.

Thank you very much for sharing Sergio! I completely agree, a portable light is really a useful thing to have. Photography is painting with light, so having some for those sticky situations is really a good idea haha. Best, Thomas 📸

I am a little curious about using continuous light for photography. Are you using these lights in a photo session? If so, how is the experience? I use to worry about high ISO use in the studio, but have realized that most people don't care (or don't notice) and now am toying with the idea of continuous lighting and the advantages they provide. I would miss the satisfying *POP* of a strobe though.

Thanks for asking. I'd say both flash and continuous have their merits. If you use OM cameras, cont. allows you to use handheld High Res, Live ND for portraiture, which is neat. Also, you can easily record a BTS video with the same lighting, which is not feasible with studio strobes. So yes, I do use those for photography as well, but mostly for hybrid projects. Don't worry about the ISO, as long as you do not want crazy fast shutter and f-numbers. You can also get a 500W version, to be on the safe side. Best, Thomas

What equipment did you use to measure the CRI?

The Sekonic C-800. I got almost exactly the same results as the manufacturer claimed.
