I will say this. I have very adverse feelings about Oakmont having been abused and harrased by certain members who threw me off the course. These actions despite having full authorization to play from the then Golf Committee Chairman. Then head pro, Bob Ford, shown in the video, I have no qualms. He is a stand up guy and very probably Oakmont did not deserve his more than forty year service to the club. He could not help me that day with all the shenanigans the members were enacting as he feared if he stood up to the horde, he probably would have lost his job as his tenure was short at that period of time. I respect him. James B. Horan, Jr Medford, NJ
cool lil story here since i know a bunch of members, back when the us open came here a few years ago, the summer before the usga was out scouting the course to evaluate what needs to be done in order to be ready for us open play and they at the time only had the one bridge over the turnpike, the usga said in order for you (oakmont) to host this next year there would be a need for a second bridge to handle the foot traffic. They said this on the course right then as they were with the greens keeper and a few lets say wealthy members. The cost I will keep private for them but once the oakmont crew heard this they sort of looked around at each other not knowing what to say or do. then one of the oakmont member pulled out his check book, literally, and wrote a CHECK on the spot for ill over 100k not to give the cost away though it was way more than 100k and this is what allowed the us open to return to oakmont the year Dustin Johnson won.
