As one of the most costly of all time ($12 million), this music video earns the world Guinness entry for being the first (and only) to be shot / broadcast live on TV, during the 58th Grammy Awards. Amazing Gwen!
Toufik D technicall this is not live, as you saw that when she stumbled while roller skating the next scene she was already standing on a podium. I liked that rollerskating the most because it was very candid and unscripted. You saw her vulnerability when she veered to the sides and her backups helped her get back on track. That was fun!
@@raianshua1724 it's not her that stumbles during the roller skating; it's a stunt, that's why we don't see her face. but anyway, I'm pretty sure this is not live.
@@floogelhornzzz4770 They did to trick the public, since it was live. It was a model, not Gwen. You see Gwen 5 seconds later with a different outfit :)
The fact that this was all done in ONE SHOT, LIVE is fucken remarkable!!! I remember watching this on TV going crazy. This music video will forever be remembered in history for doing that!!! GWEN STEFANI IS A GODDESS!!!!! Loved her growing up and still loving this woman!!!
I don't know if Gwen is always ahead of her time or if she rules the pop music industry but everything she does suddenly becomes a trend. What a genius she is! Underrated af.
yeah look at the htis of Doja CAT Say so and kIss me more- it owes a lot to this song and this song owes it to Love me by the cardigans and the cardignas owe it to the 70s LOL

I remember watching the Grammys and hearing that Gwen was not only performing but that it would be her music video for this song and would be done in ONE take and thinking "Only Gwen Stefani could pull this off:
- RIKKI people like dumb silly stuff or somthing that’s “trendy” or just hop on a bandwagon to songs that are popular just because everyone else listens to it like despacito.
This video should have at least 170M views by now. So heartbreaking. It's a shame cause Gwen has always been so under appreciated. Her repertoire is stellar! It surely deserves more appreciation!
M TS couldn’t have said it better myself; Gwen was one of the biggest pop stars in the world when LAMB was out. Every artist has their time! Just be thankful at least she’s still making music :)
@@jetwhite Her recent output has been amazing too, She's pretty influential to modern pop so her sound really isnt that out of place or dated today lol
Gwen as well as No Doubt will never truly get the credit and praise they deserve. The 2000's really kinda screwed the 90's artists. I mean obviously she made plenty of money and had plenty of hits but she will just never get the acclaim she deserves because her style was upbeat at a time America took a hard turn into "dark and druggy".
@@Aztazithedreamer lmao are you gonna be like me and and realise that and then go on a No Diubt/Gwen Stefani bingwatching spree? It's the third day now.
Exactly. Such a masterpiece. I think it does justice to her beautiful career. Only thing that doesn't is this number of views. It's really casting pearls before swine.
Her facial features are not the same at all to me! Her face is longer. But she does her hair like Marilyn's, many women have copied Marilyn, including madonna! And Christina Aguilera, as well, but she wears blue contact's to complete the look, she has brown eyes but her eyes look weak like she wears glasses kind of look! I love Gwen , she is really great!🎵🎶🎤🎶🎵
I am still in awe of her courage to do this this way, complete with roller blading! To top that off, she seems completely at ease and retains a sense of pure joy. I saw her live later that summer. Gwen is one of the best pop stars in the business.
You're forgetting about Britney Spears!! She "was" the poster girl for Pop last decade! She had a ton of hits, sold a lot of singles & albums (she was last decade highest selling female artist) & Toxic was song of the decade in the U.K
+James Cooke No, i didn,t forget about Britney... I like Britney but she is generic, commercial and controversial... I meant that Gwen and Kylie gave to the music some fresh things and many artists take that as influence for their music. They contributed beyond selling.
+lkumiksm Rnb influenced a lot of Brittany's sound witch was popular back then remember the back street boys I wouldn't say she's the poster child for 2000s pop, not sound, but defiantly the look....
+lkumiksm Seriously? I'm not even a fan, but you really lose credibility by pretending that Britney Spears wasn't one of THE biggest influences on pop music of the late 90s and early-mid 2000s. Generic? Commercial? That kind of sums up what pop music is, dude.
For anyone who felt the melody of the chorus of "Make Me Like You" sounded familiar : Britney Spears - Inside Out Won't you give me something to remember? Baby, shut your mouth and turn me inside out Gwen Stefani - Make Me Like You Why'd you have to go and make me like you? Yeah this is a feeling I'm not used to This shit is BANANAS
Gwen remained so creative and groundbreaking till always. She always does something extra with her projects that no one else would think about. Her randomness and taste is unmatched.
It only seems to be the oldskool artists like gwen stefani for example who can come back after a couple years out and hit everyone with a song that has the same feel associated to that artist.
Because true originality is hard to find. And she has it. It's really not that complicated. Most of the celebrities are born into fame now, or friends of celebs. The real marketable talented ones are always being bossed around, but when you make your own rules like Gwen, Gaga, etc. You gonna hit it big always.
I don't understand why this isn't getting more attention. This was crazy, and all live?! And it wasn't just Gwen that had succeed - think about all the things that had to work perfectly, the intricate set designs, the cameramen, all the dancers and choreography, all in one continuous take...holy shit!!
Madonna Music Considering Marilyn Monroe is the most iconic woman in history, it's all Marilyn. Madonna looked very grungey when she came out and then robbed Marlilyn's look.Gwen's look has nothing to do with Madonna's imitation, it's all Marilyn sunshine.
@@Oliviux78 no actually 99% of the times u look celebs who had extensive surgery they look 100x worse. You can see that her face hasn’t changed that much maybe fillers and lip injections. But that’s a 90% natural bad bitch!!
@@Pkg597 there was a whole article on it. She’s had a lot of plastic surgery on her face throughout the years. Her nose I think a couple of times, her eyes, a lift, I think they said some thing with the jawline. She is very beautiful but she has gotten plastic surgery since the mid 90s. Look it up.
+Mare S "This was a TV commercial!" -- Nope. This was the first ever nationally televised LIVE production MUSIC VIDEO, shot in one-take and broadcast simultaneously during the Grammy Awards. Target sponsorship and the fact that it aired during a commercial break doesn't necessarily make it a TV commercial per se, notwithstanding the fact that ALL music videos are essentially promotional in nature. In any case, this effort arguably stole the show on the night, if critical and INDUSTRY consensus mean anything. "One that was scoffed at industry wide." -- Speaking of which, two AICP nominations already (and both WON!) say otherwise, and video awards season has barely begun. INDUSTRY buzz is that an MTV nomination is on the cards. No Grammy talk as yet, but it's still early going, so we'll see. But clearly, one scoffer (i.e. you) does not an industry make, LOL. :p "She is not Grammy worthy. Not at all." -- Well, three career Grammy Awards thus far (you do know, right?), and multiple nominations (plus multiple past Grammy performances), say otherwise (again).
I FINALLY FOUND IT. I once heard this song at a grocery store several years ago and loved it but didn't have a song-identifier on my phone at the time. It's always stuck with me, I've always wondered "did I just imagine that song?" I DIDN'T IMAGINE IT
Actually it was her double that accidentally fell. did you see how Gwen had actually gone off screen on right? it was because she was off to the next room/outfit for the ending. which is why you dont see her face.
+jukodebu It certainly was live. Scenes are much better lit in videos, and you can see hands helping her change when she was at the piano. The fall was a body double.
Wrong. She looks like Gwen. It's not like every platinum blonde girl has to look like Madonna and Marilyn. Although she has said before that she took inspiration from Marylin, Gwen developed a unique style of her own that has inspired many more people over the years. You'll understand it if you get to know Gwen better, and I highly suggest you do that. She's amazing.
wow - from Used to Love You to Make Me Like You on one album ... Imagine how the 2 men these songs were about, watching them and knowing they either lost or won this amazing woman.
Still blows my mind that this was a target commercial shot in one take live during the Grammy's. Only Gwen could pull that off- on roller skates ffs! 🤯🤩 So cute that the bar is called Blake's too. 🥰
+Natalie Tisdale - If you use Madonna's visual style as an example, Marilyn Monroe's style is bound to surface itself sooner or later. I suspect that Madonna used Monroe's style as a building block for her own, and if that's accurate, the Material Girl video would be a hint of this. The fact is, Madonna has made visual fashion statements for many years, and - consciously or unconsciously - there are going to be fashion elements that other females find appealing, and would like to use themselves. And it can be interesting to see what other people do with that style when they add their own inventive, creative touches to it. Considering that, I don't blame anyone for becoming interested in the world of fashion.
Didn't you notice about 500000000 people have made the same comment already? Not to mention, of course she's aged and is clearly older now but just she looks really good for her age with the make up..etc..
+Eric Gonzalez Eric - It was just officially released to radio 4 days ago. So it might take a week or two to gain traction. UTLY actually took about a month, but MMY is already tracking better than UTLY in the early going. So I'm sure you'll start hearing it on local radio within the coming week or so. You can also help things along by calling or texting in a song request to your local station -- listener requests really do ramp up airplay. That's a big reason why certain artists, e.g Swift, Bieber, 1D, receive so much rotation. It's not necessarily that the DJs love playing those songs, but that those artists have young and rabid fan bases that text and call in like mad. :p
Seriously, I can't believe someone's making real art in pop music in this era. I mean, something real, original and innovative. I haven't seen something like this since Kate Bush, Siouxsie Sioux, Lene Lovich, etc. I like underground music and pop as well and I have to say Gwen Stefani's always been a true and real artist, but after this first "Live Music Video" her status has changed to LEGEND. Thank god we have Gwen to save pop music industry, we need more alternative and "punky" people like her. She's an icon.
One of the very few songs I like that is not kpop. 🙊 very good! (Edit: oml I also like 60's-70's American music! This song just stands out to me because of her voice & beat~)
Yes pop music works for her but she's at her best when she infuses her punk roots with it (opposed to the urban stuff). Danger Zone was probably the best example of her bringing together her diverse influences together in a way that nobody could. Of course, I would love her acoustic as well. She has a lot of talent for many different directions. I do prefer punk undertones & that doesn't mean I want No Doubt - I want Gwen.
Beyond a doubt the most gorgeous woman I've ever set eyes on, both inside and out...... any man would have to count his lucky stars to be with this good natured, beautiful woman. ....
It really sucks for Madonna too. Ghosttown was amazing, if someone "fresh" and "young" was singing it it would be a hit. Like if age makes a song better or worse. smh
Jaimee Benter i know i mightve been an year late but this song always appears in drama fever commercials and i firstly wanted to hear this song but as time went by i came to hear it today finally did it i really like this song as you said who would hate this song
In 2016, when pop industry were dominated by trap and hip-hop music, Gwen (always ahead of her time) released this DISCO POP MATERPIECE called "Make Me Like You". The song wasn't a big commercial success but it started the trend to make disco influenced pop songs. After Gwen, Katy Perry released "Chainned to The Rythm" in 2017 (later, Katy released "Smile", a disco-pop single). Dua Lipa released her heavy influenced by disco music album "Future Nostalgia" in 2020 (Gwen Stefani appears in the remixed version of the album as a homage to her). In 2020, the artist Doja Cat released her disco-pop single "Say So", a song influenced by Gwen's music specially inspired by "Make Me Like You" (Also Doja Cat released more songs influence by Gwen like "Kiss Me More"). In 2021, the latin artist Rauw Alejandro released the single "Todo De Ti", another song influenced by Gwen Stefani's song "Make Me Like You". Also, in 2021, Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak and Silk Sonic released the song "Skate", a disco-pop song. All the artist mentioned before have said they're huge Gwen Stefani fans. We're now in 2021 and disco-pop music is the new trend in pop industry, trend that was started by the most versatile pop icon Gwen Stefani. Conclusion: Gwen is ICONIC, a LEGEND and a TREND SETTER. All hail to the queen of pop Gwen Stefani! Stop sleeping on her and her work.
@@RoxasLov3r4Ev3r IKR. Also Sebastián Yatra's "Tacones Rojos" is another new song clearly influenced by "Make Me Like You". Almost the same instrumental, bridges, guitar effects and background chrorus! She's extremely underrated!!! :(
+Lisa Tondreau it's not in one take, it's clearly in multiple takes, except it was done in a single run... there's plenty of cameras, she's just doing it in one run. one take is when the camera never switches to a different one.
+Sim Tigre There is a possibility (though it's a little difficult to tell for sure; I'll need to study the audio a little closer) that from 2:27 to around 2:42, that she's singing that part live. There's definitely a live mic for that portion, because you can hear the pianist (Cory Henry) actually playing. He adds some notes and beautiful arpeggios that are not present in original studio recording. For the rest of the live shoot, she's lip-syncing, as per the norm for most any music video.
+Echoustic everything is lipsynced how how ever she has sing this song live many times since then she sings well. but there was too much to risk if she sang live.
What a way of doing a comeback! She made history shooting this video completely live. Slay Queen! Can't wait to listen her full new album! I'm so in love of this song and video.
+Vh Cd really because I didn't catch it. It must be the cum on my hands removing all of the adhesiveness on my hand. Oh well, long live the queen... Kesha.
This is a Masterpiece. Pure retro pop perfection. Sounds very Kylie Minogue-ish and it's also very influenced by Saint Etienne's "Who Do You Think You Are?" and The Cardigans "Lovefool", everything perfectly mashed up with a modern twist that reminds me of her own style as a solo artist (kinda like "The Sweet Escape", "The Real Thing", "Cool", etc.). It also gives u modern disco vibes. It's very classy and has that 80s retro feel like Grease soundtrack & Olivia Newton John's stuff. Actually, the music video is another fabulous masterpiece, it's very inspired by 80s movies like Grease and also inspired by Olivia's "Xanadu". It almost looks like and old fashioned scene of a lovely and cute scene of a "love story" movie from the 70s & 80s (back when people were more innocent and passionate). Thank u Gwen Stefani for this gem. You're truly the queen!
always wondered why this song sounded so familiar. Now that you mention it, it does sound a lot like "Who Do You Think You Are" by Saint Etienne (a personal favorite band of mine). surprised this song is so overlooked
+sidney peters She has clearly had a ton of filler. Her face is much rounder than it used to be. I do admit that she looks good, but I think she would have looked better if she had not done anything to her face.
