After over a month of very little steam action on the main line, November 27th was to be another day to remember. During late November many parts of Britain saw some areas covered in snow, with many risks of snow and ice on the roads.
Steam over the Welsh Marches has become a rarity over the years, but with snow it is even rarer to have! 6024 King Edward I hauled Pathfinder Tours "The Shropshire Monarch" from Bristol to Shrewsbury over the Welsh Marches Line. For this run my 'other half' Cherry came along with me of whom really enjoyed the South Wales scenery.
Starting off at Caerleon just north of Newport 6024 picks up the pace as it is transfered onto the Welsh Marches Line, whilst releasing its front drain cocks out. The next spot at Llanvihangel captures the rare sight of a Great Western King, hauling a full rake of authentic liveried coaching stock, surrounded by winter snow all around batter up the 1 in 95, the King having stopped at Abergavenny for 30 mins.
Later on the return working, 6024 raises the echoes as it departs a snowy Shrewsbury in fine style. The ending of the film concludes with a soundtrack taken later in the evening of the King storming up towards Llanvihangel from Pandy in the drak night.
For those who didn't make it to see this run due to the snow, seeing this is well worth believing. With all the effort made into the making of this.
