@@trainsplanes officially provided no issues crop up with 5043 before the tour, this will be my first trip to Carlisle behind a Western engine. I've ticked off Eastern, Midland and Southern engines in the past aswell as a British Railways standard for haulage to Carlisle but iv never visited with a Western engine on the front. Next job after this will be to tick off haulage down the S&C with a Western engine as it's the exact same story there. It's also going to be my first trip behind 5043 on a railtour for just under 10 years, my last was in May 2014 on a trip to Llandudno. That trip with 5043 was also only the 6th steam railtour id ever gone on, this tour will be my 60th.

Steam driver here, no the driver was quite correctly starting with the draincocks open having sat for a while to be certain not to have any condensation in the cylinders. He shut them after a couple of wheel revolutions. Alternative is potentially blowing the cylinder covers off. Honestly……

I love the way modern day spotters don't understand the function of drain cocks at all
