Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway hosted the Cotswold Festival of Steam between 25th and 27th May, 2024. The theme for this year’s event was “Western Workhorses”, celebrating the less glamorous locomotives of the Great Western Railway.
Appearing at the event were:
“Saint” class no. 2999 ‘Lady of Legend’ (new build locomotive, completed in 2019 by the Great Western Society)
Modified Hall no. 7903 ‘Foremarke Hall’
“Grange” class no. 6880 ‘Betton Grange’ (new build loco, completed 2024 - none of the originals were preserved)
“Manor” class no. 7820 ‘Dinmore Manor’
28xx class no. 2807
“9351” class no. 9351 (this class was designed in 1910 by GJ Churchward but never actually built. This loco was conceived by the West Somerset Railway using a scrapyard condition tank engine, and is the third new build engine at the festival).
Finally, the ‘odd one out’ - “Merchant Navy” class no. 35006 ‘Peninsular & Oriental S.N. Co’ (One of the GWSR’s home fleet locos)
From North to South, the stations on the line are:
Broadway
Toddington
Hayles Abbey Halt
