Aaron Rivkin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA and began playing the euphonium at the age of eleven. In 2009, Aaron began a Masters of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutorage of Steven Mead and David Thornton. He was a finalist in the RNCM Concerto Competition and was the winner of the annual RNCM Wind, Brass and Percussion Solo Competition. In his tenure at the RNCM, Aaron appeared as a featured international soloist with the RNCM Brass Band.
Aaron joined the Northwest Milnrow Brass Band in January 2011 as the principal euphonium and was voted Musician of the Year by the band. He has performed with brass bands in the UK including, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Brighouse and Rastrick, Leyland Brass Band (solo euphonium), Fairey's Brass Band (solo euphonium), Wingates Brass Band and the Atlantic Brass Band based in New Jersey, USA.
In October 2011, Aaron was the double first prize winner of the Foden's Brass Band Solo Competition where he won in the open slow melody and air varie sections. 'Let There Be Peace' was composed by Andy Scott for Aaron as a prize for winning the competition. Aaron had the privilege of giving the world premiere of 'Let There Be Peace' in Linz, Austria as apart of the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in June 2012. He also gave the UK premiere of the piece this past December when Aaron was featured as a soloist with the British Open and Nationals winners, Foden's Brass Band for their annual Christmas Concert. Aaron had the unique opportunity to perform 'Deep inside the Secret Temple,' a duet by Georges Bizet from "The Pearl Fishers" with Fodens Bands solo euphonium Glyn Williams.
Recently Aaron had the opportunity to perform as an artist at the North East Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Ithaca, New York. Aaron is based in Boston, Massachusetts where he teaches and performs. He is a member of the Bay Colony Brass Ensemble and has performed with the New England Brass Band.
