Great video idea! I know Troy Grady is working on getting the Magnet produced again. It would be awesome if we can get these right hand closeups for you, Stochelo, and Mozes so we see in great detail how they do all those double down strokes.

Very useful close ups of your right hand, thank you Christiaan. A problem I have is the spare 3 fingers (not gripping the pick) sporadically brush/tap the guitar body. (Possibly it's because I also play fingerstyle and also banjo and some piano, so they want to move !)

My spare fingers are always brushing the top (just like Stochelo and Angelo). Nothing wrong with that!

That's absolute malmsteen picking style. D,up,d D,up,d can be applied on slower parts let's say 3 notes by E and H strings

This is a great video showing the right hand. Thanks. Finally I understand the hand position and can see how your wrist moves. As far as hammer-on's and pulloff's, are you picking each and every note? Thanks.+

Thanks, I do use hammer-ons and pull offs though in triplet licks this is kept to a minimum for articulation purposes!

Great video, as always! I used x0.25% to slow down even more your video. It was very interesting to see at 4.08 that your triplet lick is not that steady triplet. Did you recognize it? Do you want to work on it?

I notice you flick your wrist every time you do consecutive downstrokes. For example, at 5:05 in the video. Stochelo does the exact same thing! Is this part of the technique to play consecutive downstrokes?

Indeed it is! If you hear a soft tapping sound from your fingers hitting the guitar top after a consecutive stroke you know you're on the right track.

Do you ever find that you're getting a blister on the first knuckle of your middle finger? I seem to have developed a similar picking technique and I'm trying to figure out how to fix this issue. I used to get blisters but now the skin has toughened up.

Great video. Do you have a solution for this picking problem....everytime I play a gig I get nervous and my picking suffers...and my technique falls apart. In practice at home, no problems, my picking is much better but on the gig, it sucks. Thanks for all your videos!

Thanks! The problem you're having is very common. I had it too and many other people I know. The only thing that will help is experience and just realize it's gonna take time to get over it. Two practical things you can do: 1 check if you're clenching the pick when you feel your picking sucks. If you're clenching you can't play, it should be a loose grip. So let go of your pick, relax your arm and hand (maybe shake) and try again. 2: go to the Samoreau campsite during the Django Reinhardt festival in Fontainebleau and jam there for 5 days straight for 10 hours a day. You just need to get there and after that, jamming at the campsite is free and practically everybody who plays gypsy jazz will be there at some point including famous players. This will help your nerves, technique, musicianship tremendously. Much more than I can convey here!

That is normal.Play more gigs and your frewuently used licks will be more stable.
