The US Navy is intensively developing a new training aircraft to replace the T-45 Goshawk. While the Navy was trying to determine the features and requirements of candidate aircraft in this important project, it also brought forward a possible contract date.
With a 2-year delay, the potential contract date was postponed to the second quarter of 2028. In this process, critical details such as whether the new aircraft will be able to practice aircraft carrier landings will be evaluated.
While various candidates stand out in the US Navy's search for a new training aircraft to replace the T-45 Goshawk, Hürjet, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), stands out among these candidates. Hürjet's candidacy for this project both reflects Turkey's development in the aviation industry and demonstrates its competitiveness in the international arena.
The candidates in the project are as follows:
Boeing T-7A Red Hawk: Boeing is joining the race with a naval version of this aircraft developed for the US Air Force by offering a Navy version of the T-7A Red Hawk.
Lockheed Martin TF-50N: Lockheed Martin, in collaboration with Korea Aerospace Industries, introduces the TF-50N, a new version of the TF-50. T-50 is used successfully in countries such as Indonesia, Iraq, Malaysia, Philippines, Poland, South Korea and Thailand.
Textron and Leonardo M-346N: Textron and Leonardo have teamed up to offer the M-346N, a modified version of the M-346. This aircraft is actively used in countries such as Italy, Poland and Singapore.
Sierra Nevada Corp. and TAI Hürjet: Sierra Nevada Corp., in cooperation with Turkish Aerospace Industries, offers a modified version of the Hürjet.
Hürjet was designed as a high-performance training aircraft equipped with modern avionics systems. It is evaluated that it can meet the criteria set by the US Navy in terms of speed, ceiling altitude and maneuverability.
Hürjet attracts attention with its adaptable structure to various educational needs. In particular, it stands out with its flexibility in terms of landing practice requirements and its capacity to adapt to different training scenarios. It has the potential to meet the US Navy's requirements for aircraft carrier landing practice.
