Same age checkin' in. Shout out to the first time I heard Dinosaur Jr. I didn't know if it was a joke, or some sort of secret, but it was etched forever.
It was amazing and emotional music, particularly Husker Du and Bob’s haunting guitar sound. People didn’t understand punk. There is so much good music from that time. I’m so glad I lived through that time with friends I still have to this day.
When I was a freshman at UConn in 1987 my roommate was on the dorm intramural soccer team. The rest of the guys would go off to the field but he would linger behind... He would kick me out of our room and put on this song and bounce off the walls for 3-4 minutes, then sprint off to the field like a madman to catch up on time with the game.
Nooo he didn’t die it is a lie he is around us in the spring morn and in every winter Dawn, don’t think those you love are gone we live forever in our song. . . Poem by me written to comfort you. And to comfort me and everyone who loved him
This is beautiful beyond beleif. What intensity out of 3 instruments! Woah! Only the very very best can play like this, and you can not see such a live act easily any more. Hate to say such big words, but its probably one of the finest moments in rock history, this humble video!
What an great cover by an incredible band. I saw them live twice back in the '80's and they really whipped the crowd into a frenzy. They were just a few years ahead of their time, breaking up in the 80's brfore the grundge bands of the nineties came along and borrowed heavily from them.
The very first growl from Bob's voice gave me shivers. What an incredible band and an inspired performance. I'm fortunate to have seen them play in Chicago.
was their first gig outside the Twins. Chicago /always/ gave them a great crowd. The Huskers were notoriously good hosts to visiting bands, including our own Naked Raygun.
Husker Du played the best live show I've ever seen, way back in 1984. There were only like 100 people in the crowd. It was so f'n intense and loud. For reference, their stage presence here is yacht rock by comparison. Great band.
what a fantastic cover of a great song by the best band in the world at the time. Still see bob when he,s touring and he's still got the edge. Way impressive guy!!!
Great Video! One of the greatest covers of all time. I just love the way Bob's singing turns into a roar in the end when the songs builts up to its destructive finale...in the single you can hear it better but this a great testimony of those times when being independent still meant something...
this band too change my life and has pulled me out of depression a few times... still this song and practically the entire CANDY APPLE GREY gets me feelin good!
Absolutely unbelievable... and Mould still rocks to this day. Every time I think I've finally "got it", and know "where he's at", I arrive at his next release only to find he's moved away, and still leading me off further into the musical underbrush... but I still love looking back at the path I've travelled following him.
In 1987 I was a prep cook and dishwasher at Cuisine Cuisine in Ft. Collins, Colorado listening to Husker Du on 93.3 KTCL which was the college radio station for Colorado State University. Go Rams and Go Husker Du!
Best reimagining of a Byrds song ever, bristles with power. Should be required viewing for any young band. Hüsker Dü took the European atmospherics (in Bob's guitar) and showed people like U2's the Edge that American rockers can make this kind of music too. Grant's drumming is crisp and effortless and Greg is really laying it down too. Big finish at 2:59 is pure exiliration and I dare any expert writer to try to transcribe it: life and joy, mi amigos!
I had the pleasure of meeting Bob last night after a solo show. I felt so bad these obnoxious grown adult fans wouldn’t leave him alone. But he remained professional and polite, can’t say I would have done the same. He was extremely kind and very chill. Didn’t even ask and he signed my poster. I left soon after could tell he needed a people break lol. But I’ll never forget it 🤟🤟🤟
For as long as I can remember I've thought Husker Du's version of this song was the best cover version of them all. This live version does nothing to make me change my mind
That's a fantastic version, especially considering they were falling apart at the seams by this point; Bob's guitar sounds like a Boeing descending! Still waiting on the entire Hüsker discography getting its well-deserved remastering...
Now this is a performance beyond beleif! From what i've seen from other postings, this is one of their finest moments live. Absolutely blazing stuff! Nothing, nothing can compare to this.
for the longest time, i believed that a band could make cover as song as well as thje band who made the original. But this band has changed my mind completely.
I occasionally watch this video after a few months of not watching and I just can't stop myself headbanging and jumping around the room. Such a terrific release of energy, plus I'm doing tons of revision right now so I seriously needed that.
takes me back to my troubled youth. tossed from school in bc, sent me to the 'peg in manitoba to live with grandma. my cousin promised me if i kept out of the priciples office for a month, he would take me to a concert. he took me (and underaged teen) to Husker Du at the Marble Arches (or was it Arms)? the raw intensity of the at feedback laced guitar still gives me goosebumps 20+ years on. my cousin, he still lives in 'peg (works for the Winnipeg City PD) thanx Gordie! John
I know what you mean. Powerful, melodic, and just ass-kicking throughout. There's this version right here and then there's everything else from anyone else, ever.
I saw Husker Du 9 times. still miss them. grant hart's new cd is pretty good. but hart doesn't look in the best of health. mould has made a couple of decent solo efforts. byrds version is still amazing as well.
Thank you for your comment! I’m pretty old now (62), and have heard and lived through/with many styles over the years. When some style or any other is popular, the natural response for many to say that this or that style is the ‘best ever’. How about - like you - appreciating each one for its own unique sound/style/power. It doesn’t need to be a contest.
