Awesome! We bought one and have not even tried it yet. Nice to see how it works. It is sitting in hubby's office on the floor. We have been doing home remodeling, so camping got put on the backburner this winter.
It's part of my Xtrusion Overland bed rack. I don't really see anything on their website specific to it, but I'm sure if you called them and told them you saw mine and wanted to do something similar, they could get you sorted! Here's their website: xtrusion-overland.com
@@AllThingsOverlanding I have an XTR bed rack and a lot of their accessories. Unfortunately I have been having a lot of trouble finding things that other people say they got from them. I have sent them several messages and not gotten any responses to my queries.
@@AllThingsOverlanding I am. And some of the group members have tried to help me but I haven’t talked to anyone from xtrusion. I’m starting to feel like this is something they don’t want to deal with. I’ve been very happy with their products otherwise.
@@nightsta1ker1 that sucks. They are generally pretty good, but I know they get a lot of requests. have you tried calling them on the phone? I don’t know if they’re busy phone-wise too but if you get them on the phone, you might be able to get a resolution more quickly. Hopefully, you hear back from them soon!
I have the same one and its great.. I am having a problem with the fuel leaking from the hole I drilled in the tank.. I went with the suggested size from another channel. I hit it with some JB weld and a bigger washer and I hope it works... Looking forward to some camping in the UP soon just waiting on my tent.. (aspen Lite) dude at about 3:45 your dog was putting some work in..
I used a kit on amazon that puts the hole on top or in the lid/fuel cap and has a tube that you cut to length. That way, there is no pressure on the hole, but it does have a oring to seal it off around the tube that goes in the tank. If you put in in the lid, make sure you get a vent or make sure you don't put the kit on the vent hole in the center of cap.
Looks like a cool set up… my question is does it make any noise (besides the blowing air)? And if so, how loud? One of the biggest draws to camping for me is the silence/sounds of the forest at night. Not sure if I’d trade that for a blower motor humming or a clicking fuel pump just for a little extra comfort.
It does make the clicking of the fuel pump. All the diesel heaters do that. It’s not super loud but it’s not silent for sure. I also don’t usually use the diesel heater in 30’s and 40’s because it’s not really necessary but this coming weekend, I’m heading to Wisconsin where it will be single digits or negative temps so that’s when they really come in handy.
How much power do they draw and what size power station would be required? I also assume they're pretty efficient and that fuel tank will easily last a weekend or longer.
Yeah, I ran mine for probably 14 hours and it used maybe 1/5th of the fuel. At a higher setting it would take a little more, but I figure I can get two nights out of it pretty easily. For power, I'm running mine off of a secondary LiFepo4 battery and I can run it for a long time off that. For power stations, I've heard that people typically use something like a 500WH unit from Ecoflow, Jackery, or Bluetti. The main concern is the power it draws at start up which can kick the protection on some portable power banks, so you'd just want to test fire it off whatever you're using before you get out someone that you need it.
Not 100% sure it’s necessary but my experience with most diesel heaters is that they get fuel starved if there’s any restriction. Also, because how my fuel is mounted on my rack, it splashes out of the vent so I RTV’d the vent shut so that it would be liquid tight during storage so I kind of have to vent mine now.
@@AllThingsOverlanding I’m on such a time crunch that I’ll be building and testing at the first camp site haha. Literally as soon as the USPS hands it to me I’ll be throwing it in my Jeep and leaving, I have 7 hours from my area to meet up area. But a lot of the guys I’m going with run them.
Cool heater setup. Way better than the clunky sheet metal box a lot of the all in one units come in. The dog taking care of business around the 4 minute mark made me laugh 😂.
