This is so meaningful. I love how she uses her platform for change. Hope we can protect her at all cost. She is the one we really need at this time someone that is not afraid to show what she stands for
The “Use her platform for change” you are stating and standing behind and holding in such high regards is someone running backwards into the past. Passing the 60's Civil Rights era and back into the hell hole of a segregated and divided country with her rap rant inciting a racist rhetoric and race baiting hype she has inserted into this newest version of her song! Is this even looking for a message that can unite us? Will this generate support from someone of a different color? It’s a hate and fear mongering message that wants to exact revenge upon 'All' whites, instead of on the individual that murdered Mr. Floyd. Jump on the bandwagon of self loathing righteousness and you become the oppressor. The logic in the rap portion is the logic of an adolescent and wont be supported by rational, caring, intelligent, moral adults of any race, color, or creed.
“We breathe the same, we bleed the same but still, we don’t see the same. Be thankful we are god-fearing because we do not seek revenge, we seek justice.“ - This one right HERE!!
@@whyareyoulookinghere9135 the rioters aren't the people who actually protest they take advantage of the protest. And if you actually focus a little more you'll realize that the media only focuses on the riots but never takes the time to look at the big majority of PEACEful protesting
@@whyareyoulookinghere9135 notice how the peaceful protests are still happening but the media no longer covers it like they did a few weeks ago? That's because *no one is rioting.*
@@smallfartmaster you do realize that the media also skews the race issue in all of this. There are many instances of white men being killed for the exact same things that these minorities are but that doesnt make for a good story to the media so its often ignored. We dont have a race issue we have a police issue. that being said not every policeman is an issue but a revamping of training and screening needs to take place. Also since all of this started poc have been attacking innocent white people out of revenge because there being allowed to get away with anything and everything. These groups dont want justice or equality. There defending murderers, looters and the like. If a cop shoots a guy right now even if he was clearly posing a threat they dont care. They want that cop removed. They all have mob mentality at this point and its a disease on our society.

The level of her musical ability and lyrical power combined is honestly overwhelming at times. Got me out here crying with goosebumps over my whole body.
"The level of her musical ability and lyrical power" ... I don't think I've ever heard anyone waste 2 minutes of a song talking rather than singing, or a weaker beat for that matter, but if that's what passes for musical ability and lyrical power in your world...
GCR Gaming if there are 2 houses, and one is one fire, are we going to put out both houses? No. You see what I’m getting at here? Yes, everyone is equal, but all lives can’t matter until black lives matter
As a mostly white person from the rural south, I’d say if a white person cant see what’s been happening to black folks, then it’s because they don’t want to, you don’t even have to know any black folks to see what’s goin on, or to just you know, learn history and have the common sense to realize that there’s no way we’ve fixed the problems or gotten past racism yet. I’ve been telling people for years that they should listen to black folks because they see the problems with this country and are impacted by the crap that goes on way more than any of us. I’m very proud and inspired of all the good people standing up against injustice right now but I’m really afraid that we are about to be clamped down on like never before. What’s happened to black folks in America I would already call a holocaust, but I’m afraid what’s around the coroner is going to be even worse than that. We have to stand up and resist the system, it’s failing and falling apart and the oligarchs who run and benefit from the system are willing to do ANYTHING to keep that system in tact. We need a revolution now ✊🏿✊🏼✊🏾✊🏽✊🏻! We need a revolution and especially a revolution of values like MLK talked about, we as a society need to value human life, this country has never valued human life, it’s apparent in everything from policing to healthcare. Even in this once in a lifetime pandemic who is suffering the most? Black folks and poor folks. It’s the same shit over and over throughout everything, the whole system has got to go. Valuing human life should be at the center of everything instead of valuing money and power like we do now. I sincerely wish everyone here the best and never give up, keep fighting, all of us must fight, don’t just accept concessions either, we must go all the way and right every wrong.
Love this song and your beautiful voice. This song needs to be played on the radio right now, so that others can hear this masterpiece. God bless this world we are living in right now. Thank you H.E.R. for sharing your gifts and talents with the world. Spread more love 💕 #love
Well there are also other people who have had the same fate as George Floyd. As far as it goes, I’m not really a fan of how the protesters are “protesting”. Also, the media Is all about violence especially the far left ones so if we can stand together and just pray and hope that this ends, maybe we can become equal as people
@Every Word Is A Made-Up Word Your saying all of that but what about Atatiana Jefferson who got shot and KILLED by a police officer through the window of her HOME while she was ASLEEP. Or what about Stephon Clark who got shot more than 20 TIMES for just standing in his grandmother backyard while on the PHONE. Or what about Bothan Jean who got shot by an OFF-DUTY officer and all he was doing was eating ice cream IN HIS OWN house. So MAYBE you should OPEN YOUR EYES and see that the REAL problem is how police officers see BLACK SKIN as a WEAPON even if they don't COMMIT A CRIME. They are WAYYY MORE people who didn't even GET JUSTICE. And next time do your RESEARCH before you make silly comments like that.
@Every Word Is A Made-Up Word You are correct Stephon Clark shouldn't have done those crimes Period. BUT the cops THOUGHT his phone was a gun. They ASSUMED. They got scared and shot. They could have handled the situation WAY better than how they did. He should have been arrested not KILLED. And believe me I know they are a lot of white people who die under the cops. That is why we also say DEFUND THE POLICE. But did you also know that there is a new study saying that black people are up to 6 TIMES more likely to be KILLED by police (Harvard Study). Oh did you also know that every 1 in 1000 black men and boys in America are expected to die under the hands of police. Which makes them 2.5 times more likely than a white men and boys to die during an encounter with cops? The problem is the cops aren't doing the TIME in jail they deserve! You mentioned Justine Diamond and what happening to her is unforgivable and sickening but the police officer is doing his time in JAIL. But just like Breonna Taylor who got shot in her apartment by officers doing a no-knock searched warrant are still being able to roam free. That isn't RIGHT. All of the people we are fighting for didn't get the justice they deserved. And got killed for NO REASON. SO i don't know where you got committed crimes from but if they resisted arrest they shouldn't have had to DIE because of it. Black Lives Matter. No Justice NO PEACE.
@Every Word Is A Made-Up Word this is talking about police brutality and police officers abusing their power, specifically the one that is racially backed. Now, when it comes to what you just asked, you have to keep in mind that black neighborhoods are heavily over policed, which goes back to a lot of american history and systematic racism. Not to mention population differences are almost never taken into count. Myself and many others can explain this to you along with how systematic racism works, skewed statistics, racial bias, etc. over and over again like we have for the past, what? Two months? At this point, if you don't want to understand us and listen, then that's your problem. I'm not going to answer you again because I know when it comes to people like you, you're only intention is to gaslight others and not truly listen to us. There are many videos out there explaining racial discrimination and injustice. I recommend Most Of Miree, itzkeisha, and Amandabb. Please stay safe, be enlightened, and have a good day❤.
I love the song! Listen, can you sing the one about the thousands and thousands of African American men that are murdered at the hands of other African American men each year in this country?
I'm an "I would die for Taylor Swift" person and her not winning any SOTY award ever upsets me. But upon hearing this, yow girl, you freaking deserve this. My Filipino heart is glistening. Can't wait for your next projects.
Your Filipino heart is made of way better stuff than to waste on this song. Your people work hard around the world away from their families. George Floyd was about as far from a Pinoy as you can get.
That strange fruit hanging from my family tree. Y’all catch that Billie Holiday reference? Yoooo, she pays respect to generations passed who used their art to raise awareness. Homegirl is cultured. What a beautiful mind, body and spirit - thank you for that
Strange Fruit was written by songwriter Abel Meeropol also known as Lewis Allan. He was a white man. It was sung by Billie Holiday and Nina Simone among other artists. It was originally a poem written by Allan. Billie Holiday co-wrote the music to the song.
@a HERO that doesn’t know what protect means - This "song" is truly ridiculous. Especially the spoken word part in the second half. Utterly delusional.
@@mariselaosuna7735 No, you're wrong. There is NO such thing as race. The color of our skin is based on information in our DNA that allows us to handle different levels of sun and moisture. It's up to the individual to walk like royalty and own the skin they're in. For I have been called for great things and adopted into a mighty nation; to inherit the Earth and the riches of heaven. This is the most beautiful and most powerful song ahe has created. She is a true poet and this masterpiece broight me to tears. I was a fan before but now im a lifetime fan💜
She won Song of the Year because of her songwriting and the lyrics show that she deserves the award. I just heard this honestly and this is so beautiful! Congratulations H.E.R
This song truly does deserve a Grammy for its message but I don’t think Scammys care about “the songwriting and the lyrics”. They gave it the award to show that they’re not ‘racist’.
@@starhans8810 Based on actual research below: Song of the Year is awarded for a single or for one track from an album. This award goes to the songwriter who actually wrote the lyrics and/or melodies to the song. "Song" in this context means the song as composed, not its recording. Also, the Grammys are not a fan voted awards show, it is about the actual recording and musical creativity, whether if it’s popular or not.
This is my second and final comment for HER and this Truth it's more than a song it's all of us I've listened to your music over and over again it's all Truth God our Father has sent you at this time to put out all of what He wants us all to hear, God Bless You 🙏🌹🙏
I love how HER sings a song and tells a story at the same time.,,,very articulate. My great great grandmother told us they walked from Tennessee to Oklahoma. Etc. , my story. Love her music, grove, personality, and songs. The best 2020.
This is the most beautifullest song I've ever heard in all of my 64 years. Could not have explained it any better as I sit here in my living room listening to it over and over. Thank you sisstar 👑
Something Different this is too deep. It doesn’t fit their narrative to have this level of wokeness topping the charts. Not thotty enough unfortunately.
Police were created as Race Soldiers from day one! Police have always hated us since slavery and were used to capture runaways.NOTHING HAS CHANGED AND THEY STILL SHOOT OUR PEOPLE IN BACK
@Kenny Olivier Nope, white south Africans created Apartheid. They are 9 percent of the population and own 80 percent of the wealth. White south Africans are not oppressed/suppressed. (Also what does this have to do with police brutality in America)
To all of the artist that has expressed their vocal abilities in "I Can't Breathe " songs In honor of ones that have lost lives I say Thank You and God Bless all of you what the world needs right now.
For anyone confused, song of the year is about the lyrics and the music. It goes to the songwriters of the song. So you can think of it as “songwriter” of the year! Record of the year goes to the main performer and producer and mixers. So song of the year does not have anything to do with streams or popularity. This song is beautiful and I think HER deserved this award.
@@jonah_hosea she means that in the sense that white ppl see the black community as smthn different and "ugly" who shouldnt be treated right whereas the black community thinks the opposite. This IS often the case, not always.
@@jonah_hosea i put quotation marks around bc ik that's not what most think and the song and specifically the video diverge deeper into segregation in America it was what most thought back then yet, it's less now.
God willing, peace and love will resolve all those stone cold hearts. I pray we learn to love rather than to cause pain. 🙌❤ Black Lives Matter. When you take a life, it's as though you took all that is connected to that life. You not only take the life, but cause pain to loved ones. May all those people who were targets of racial discrimination that lost their lives rest in peace. ❤
Some people criticized I can't breathe because it won The Song of the Year but little of them know that the award is also a "Song Writers award" so yuuuupp it's not just about the catchy beats and melodies the song should have but importantly the song must also showcase the writing skills of the artist, and I think H.E.R really edged everyone on that and deserved to win the award 💕💕💕
in 100-200 years this will be looked at the same way we look at quotes from MLK today, yet another generation of pain brilliantly summed up in just under five minutes.

This song touching my mind ,body ,heart and soul I’m over here in tears especially at “ will anybody fight for me “ is it bad I can’t stop playing this and blasting it 🥺
It certainly is a powerful one, plus it's got a direct historical reference attached to it: it's taken from Billie Holiday's 1939 song, entitled "Strange fruit" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Web007rzSOI.html), which got her into trouble up to the FBI. It protested "the lynching of Black Americans, with lyrics that compare the victims to the fruit of trees. The song has been called 'a declaration of war' and 'the beginning of the civil rights movement'". Nina Simone then recorded it in 1965 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BnuEMdUUrZQ.html). Both versions are incredible, although Simone's one resonates stronger in me, perhaps because of the haunting piano "carpet", as well as her immense voice... Peace
Tbh I heard this before it won a Grammy. Strong message and emotions H.E.R sent in this song. I’m still surprised it won since it’s not nearly as popular
Frenchesca Gerard Sadly some people will still never know the struggle even after listening to this song. But this song is a very powerful message. Kudos. 💯✊🏽🙏🏽
You must be joking. This song beat cardigan by Taylor swift. 🙄 another example of how wack the Grammys are. Black people have to stop believing that white people care about social justice.
Mark Tannis // Please explain to me why you think that way. If you can’t seem to have a reasonable answer, I will have to do something about it..Maybe report? Please explain.
It's also $1.29 on iTunes. Profit from emotion and tragedy, lovely. She never mentioned donating the money from the sales of this song to BLM non-profits.
Love this song H.E.R., the beat is solid and your words strike an emotional cord in my soul. Added to my playlist for expressive jogging in the morning. Man, if this isn't a classic by the time I'm in my 50's; I'm a start my own movement. (Hoping for 'Fortunate Son' levels of notoriety for the 20's.)
Chudawg 67 No, she used it to get instant attention because it’s about something controversial, which is why RU-vid promoted it. Using a tragedy to make a quick dollar and that’s it. It should sicken you, but people never seem to realize that’s what people do
The fact that H.E.R have won 3 Grammy in 2019 and was nominated 5 times in 2019 to even Best album of the year. And in 2020 was nominated again 5 times in Grammy. And 2021 she won 2 Grammies shows you that she has talent and Am not surprised she won!! In total has 4 Grammy awards
On the same note, if you discriminate or make an organization specifically for a certain race, you are indeed also racist.... just saying. But I guess that only applies to white people.
Vicky Paulson So with that logic, if we donate to organisations that feed African child’s that are starving and dying is racist bc it’s for African kids? Me donating money to organisation that helps native Americans, I’m racist even though they need help?
This can be the new national anthem😘 Just an indication of how badly things keep deteriorating into, and also how very good and on point these lyrics of HERs are
