1:03:36 Grey won't see this but if anyone else is wondering, the reflex knee thing is to check how your central nervous system is working, because sometimes the first sign of central nervous system issues is a delay or change in that response. There's actually one nerve running the entire length of your leg, so if that's still okay it'll communicate with the spine (before telling your brain what's happening, like if you reflexively pull your hand away from a hot stove) and move your leg. Edit: I'm not a doctor, but I've done research about the central nervous system and nerve issues. I might be wrong, but I looked it up to make sure and I didn't see anything immediately contradicting what I thought.

New listener here, I've been listening to these from the beginning, which someone said is not a good idea to do. Not either of you... yet. But I'm a rebel. Anyway, thank you, it's a fantastic podcast! it's really fun listening to y'all talk about current events because they remind me of them, or inform me if I hadn't heard of one. I am not an apple/iphone person so don't get a lot of those segments but that's ok, it's still interesting because I am learning a bit more about them. And it's fun because you are talking about tech a lot that is so outdated now and I'm imagining how you both will feel about all of the new stuff to come! I heard that you suspended the poscast a couple years ago like a lot of people :( I really hope you come back, am enjoying these immensly and when I finish I know I will want more! Thank you so very much for making these for us!

I have to say I absolutely agree with CGP Grey on not talking about media projects or endeavours or even a minor project with any smidgeon of creative component. It's definitely a mistake unless the person you are talking to is critical to the creation of the project. If it's just some friend or someone you think might be interested in the project, don't talk about it till it's done. Talking about it just destroys the creative impetus, because it removes the cathartic/releasing/liberating/cutting-edge aspect of the expression. We _need_ to feel like we are getting by doing something new, refreshing. Talking about it just diminishes the new-ness and freshness of the work, and hence then it isn't as worth talking about any more, especially if the person talking you talked to actually agrees with your points/ideas/suggestions. If they are critical towards you(or the expression), it's usually still all right, since you have a strong belief and your work might change their mind. If you absolutely have to talk to someone about it, owing to a lack of conversation or other reason, I'd say keeping it as far under wraps as possible is the way to go.

I'm so glad you talked about the study about talking on the phone being the same as drunk driving, because I recently saw this same study (drunk driving and phone talking while driving is 4x more dangerous than normal driving, and texting while driving is 8x more dangerous). The study really opened my eyes to talking on the phone while driving; I've always disliked it because I felt less aware of my surroundings, but the study cemented it for me.

Science aside. I drive every weekday in India with a lot crazy traffic compared to the rest of the world while listening to music. I personally didn't find anything different with or without music. But when I started to listening to Hello Internet(my first podcast) while driving, it took me awhile to get used to both driving and listening. Since humans can only concentrate on one thing, I usually miss lots of parts of the podcast. So I started to take longer and emptier routes so I could listen to the podcast while driving and it makes me feel comfortable :p

A very interesting phenomenon that I know I do a lot when driving, is I will listen to music while driving . But the moment I am in a city or have a huge amount of traffic to deal with, I turn down or off the music, to see better. and I know I am not the only one who does this. On another note, this episode got deep. also about creative people, I will not say they are "filled" with issues, but I will say as a creative person, who also knows a lot of creative people. They/we rarely have very little, for issues, or at least overall insignificant issues in my experience. To be clear that is a subjective opinion.

2:35 I took a look at that presidential study and yk what I actually kinda like it. It looks so cozy with its single person furniture and 1970's work phone. Honestly if I went all "but I am Neapolitan" this is what I would want my asylum to look like. I think I saw at most one or 2 windows and they have shades. Honestly that little isolated space looks like an amazing place to do business in solitude. Edit: 57:58 I accidentally started the next episode without realizing it so I already know how this story goes but let me just say considering that lawsuit that happened with McDonald's and their coffee I find this moment almost morbidly hilarious. Edit2: 1:03:35 Almost every cartoon I have seen mentions that the characters reflexes seem ok or sharp or the scene is prefaced by the doctor saying "I'm going to test your reflexes" I'm not sure I really remember a doctor doing this to me as a kid but my first actual experience with this was when me and my friend took turns hitting eachothers dangling knee with the edge of a wooden yard stick. And it felt so weird too, I remember I even tried like flexing my leg or tractioning my shoe against the ground to try and stop it from kicking. Edit 3: Btw I have had manny burns like this, my hands have become burn scar tapestries, so you're not alone grey from atleast 5 years ago. Edit 4: 7 years as of me typing this Last edit (hopefully): I'm not sure if this is proven science at the moment but I do remember hearing from MatPat about this psychological phenomenon where the hype around a piece of media makes it more enjoyable to the audience. It was in his film theory video about the Snyder cut. The thing about that specific situation though is that the audience had the austensibly awful experience of the original Justice League movie to compare it too. I say austensibly because I actually liked the first justice league movie. Although Ironically I really didn't like the Snyder cut, which is why I'm not sure if this is settled science (I mean to the extent that social psychology is ever really "settled" I'm pretty sure MatPat cited a study but based on the reception I'de say it's not a completely baseless concept. Anyway all of this to say, I'm really looking forward to episode 32 of Hello internet whenever I get around to watching it.

I experience the mental phenomenon discussed near the end of the episode as well. I have concluded that it is in part due to discussion solidifying my creativity, making me feel like I cannot create my own thing anymore. However, the bigger issue is that once I get an idea out there, it starts to feel entirely pointless to put work into it. I've already let people know about it, so why would I put effort into refining my message? In these situations, I'd rather look for the next thing... until I start talking about that as well and then lose interest...

I watched that plane crash video and I think it may have been view jacked/free booted. There is a mouse cursor near the bottom left of the screen and also just when the slow motion section starts you can see the playback interface of another player for a couple frames. Of course this could have been from some sort of media player on their computer but and there was no foul play involved but then why wouldn't they just upload the file to their website if they had an original? Just thought I'd share my thoughts on that.

Grey, You should look at Ford's research on this. It doesn't disprove what your saying so much as adds more details. It breaks it down into many different parts; Some highlights are; Receiving a call is the worst part. Until you know who it is and why the called. It's so bad they did FMRIs to find out why. After those two things are known it goes down to about the same level as having a passenger. Out going calls without hands free are next Having kids in the car is next. out going calls with hands free are not much different then having a passenger. Having a passenger is next. I don't remember the info on the radio and such.
