Beginner H-NMR Spectroscopy LIVE session - Learn everything from splitting patterns to reading the graph, how to identify peaks and ultimately come up with the unknown molecule.
We’ll start with the basics, unique signals and splitting,
We’ll cover how to interpret the graph itself, how to read splitting patterns,
And how to put a molecule together.
✏️📄🌟 Download the session worksheet and notes on my website: Leah4sci.com/o... 🌟📄✏️
I’ll email you the session notes right after, or by the following morning

Somewhat is a good start, what's it going to take for you to fully understand?
@MyChemicalRS
@MyChemicalRS 8 месяцев назад
@Leah4sci maybe some more time XD I only started learning this like two weeks ago. I'm a laboratory student and my teacher asked if I could find out how NMR works for her, I only knew the basics of organic chemistry but thanks to your explanation I understand now how the grouping of neighbors works and how to read the spectrum, I feel I should put some more time in for more expert level organic chemistry to understand fully, as in school I haven't learned about pi bonds and hybridization. I did three analysis on HNMR as a start the first one butaan-1-ol and that spectrum I could predict right buy with larger molecules I still have some trouble I feel mostly because I still have to learn a lot 😀 thankyou for your interest!

H NMR, why is there sometimes a table with chemical shifts and relative areas? Does this information help with determining how to draw the structure when the peaks are not clearly visible?

hey Leah thanks for this amazing video , my question is how would you tackle those compounds with halogens or nitrogen attached to it?
@Leah4sci
@Leah4sci 6 месяцев назад
Hopefully you'll be given more information such as a molecular formula, or MS or IR (or a mix). Then you simply look at how these groups would behave in H-NMR and validate your assumptions with the other complimentary graphs
@kazeemsuleiman8721
@kazeemsuleiman8721 2 месяца назад
my question here is that , what does the singlet peak stands for?
@Leah4sci
@Leah4sci 2 месяца назад
A singlet would be seen if you have a group of Hydrogens with no neighboring Hydrogen groups. Therefore, we don't see any splitting from that signal because no other Hydrogens are nearby. Make sure to watch my mini-series to learn more: Leah4sci.com/NMR

24:21 How is each hydrogen in the methyl unique? Also since there is symmetry and the adjacent hydrogens connected to the ring are the same (same color), why is it counted as its own (4 neighbors from the ring)?
@Leah4sci
@Leah4sci 7 месяцев назад
There are 3 identify hydrogens on methyl. They are not unique. The ratio is 1:4 so even though it appears to be just 2 sets of 2 identical H atoms, the tertiary H is still getting split by the effect of having a total of 4 neighboring H atoms

if any contemporary professor is making students MEMORIZE band patterns and not giving a handout for the exam then ... i don't even. That's like not giving someone a periodic table in gen chem.
@Leah4sci
@Leah4sci 7 месяцев назад
I was required to memorize them without being given a table on the exam. It's actually quite doable with enough review and practice. Study the trends and relationships more than the actual numbers so that you can easily solve a graph without a table
