It’s strange to think that these days, both of these gents would have been tapped for a shared universe style of stories and movies. In a way, Funcom had given us a look into what that might’ve looked like. That’s one of the bigger reasons I like to play. Despite their grievous flaws, both men made a huge impact on popular literature. I truly hope the upcoming seasons keep this link alive. Great video, thank you for taking the time to make it!
My favourite Lovecraftian feature in Conan Exiiles is.. er all of them! But if I had to choose, it would be Dagon and the deep ones. I never knew Conan had so much influence from Lovecraft. You do an absolutely brilliant job of showcasing it all too, thank you!
Agreed, the lore just always seems to hit the right spot for me. Howard's life is pretty tragic indeed, though at least his legacy is an impermeable part of Sword & Sorcery
Well, I knew Howard and Lovecraft were friends, I knew there were a few elements of Lovecraft in Conan Exiles, but I had no idea there were that many! Thanks for being so informative! Brilliant Video!
Agreed. Given how young they both were, it's a shame we won't know what they could have contributed to their genres over the rest of their natural lives
Two of my very favourite sources of entertainment:- The Hyborian Age and Metallica both influenced me to respect Lovecraftian horror. Loved this video!
@@Eradicati0nn no promises, I'm the black sheep of the Black ring; I just keep stumbling behind secret curtains and corporate veils, and they keep offering me a slice of pie.🤣
The idea that Azathoth or Yor-Sothoth dream reality is misconstrued with Lord Dunstany's Mana-Yood-Sushai who created the universe and now sleeps, and the other gods try to keep him asleep for should he ever wake, reality (or the current universe) would seem boring and a new one made in it's place
Kurak speaks two separate languages, aside from English. The pre-fight language is Psyonic, which is very hard to find anything about, I've only managed to track down one source. The second is R'lyheian, which a Lovecraftian language much easier to find a translation for. I translated both languages in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o49msCY6sGU.html
My bet is i's either R'lyehian, Acheronian or even Valusian (given Kurak's true identity). Si nun. Si ezera. Halambaru ni dur! Kusum! Bala! Tumu si! Iä Nyarlathotep! Iä! Iä! Um elu, gestug suna inim-sud!
@@jankoval That particular segment is Psyonic speech, seems very hard to find outside of Alan Russell's books. His later speech at the end of the fight is R'lyehian though
In-game, Dagon kinda seems like a 'lost' religion in that he's only represented in the dungeon and in a few place names. I definitely like the idea of opening up the pantheon to Dagon, Xotli and some others though
