Asking HR Giger if he was shocked or scared by Alien. lol! Obviously the interviewer wasn't familiar with Giger's paintings, Alien's design was considerably watered down to diminish the overt sexual elements! But then in context, I guess most people weren't familiar with Giger until Alien catapulted him into stardom.
Andromeda Strain also paved the way for them! as far as "okay, we can give this sci-fi movie for a niche audience a big budget to build a huge contraption/set and it can be successful and worthwhile"
That's not Ron Shusett. It's David Giler. He and Walter Hill tried but failed to write Ron and Dan O'Bannon off the project. All their drafts were finally rejected by the director, except for the cyborg.
@@m1lst3r89 That makes no sense at all. Otherwise the WGA would have given them credit. The only thing that survived was the corporate plant. I knew about all of this while it was happening-I didn't read about it later. Also, Hill and Giler were the producers but Ridley Scott was in charge.
@@m1lst3r89 But you're siding with Hill and Giler, without having read the original script. I have it in my apt. It was never published. This is before the lead became a woman. Also, Ron worked alongside Ridley during the whole shoot-Hill and Giler were back in LA.
@@bretthouston1 so what? It's clear that finished movie bears more resemblance to Hill/Giler script, plus in O'Bannon/Shusett script, all characters had unisex names so it was convinent to have a female character, if necessary. Dan was hurt for sure because the script got rewritten, but he was pleased when he got the sole credit on it. Nonetheless, Hill/Giler input was significant. And their script is improved over O'Bannon's, that looked more like a B picture.
I have a copy of the original script, the movie actually ended up pretty close but it's largely thanks to Star Wars. Fox had the script rewritten over and over by their own people but then Star Wars came out so the studio wanted this film put out quick as possible to follow up with another SciFi.
