After 6 months of putting up with this I finally came across a helpful tip to my problem. The solution is explained and I tried my best to show before and after.
I figured it would help other's. And even if it's just one I did my job. None of that fluffy subscribe BS and no commercials, just solid info to help others.
Just got a 2000 base 5 speed. Had the same problem. Cleaned out the iacv on the top of the intake an the bottom. Fixed it perfectly now idling at 800 thank you so much saved me 200!!

Works! I Been chasing a vacuum leak that I didn’t even have lmao did what u did and was relived it worked, for anyone about to try this if the bolts on ur fast idle are to tight to the point ur going to strip them like mine were just pull the throttle body off and the fast idle will be on with it made it easier for me plus u get to clean deep inside ur intake manifold. Dude thanks a lot this was so easy and it worked my valve was so jammed up with coolant it couldn't even pass through, the car was sitting in a guys yard for a while so I probably should've done this right away but you live and you learn I guess.
Recently picked up a 2000 type sh and i was having the exact same issue. FITV was the culprit for mines as well! I found it easier to just unbolt the throttle body and remove it then take off the fitv valve.
its usually just the first valve you mentioned in this video the one you said you thought you took off another car, the pipe that go to it and the until it self clogs if you have ever used any additive in your water and usually just cleaning that and the pipes works never had to do the other vales you just did
flush your radiator system out now as well as that was pretty clogged up someone must have added a leak seal additive in the past maybe for a broke radiator thats has been replaced but anyway to anyone else reading this never add anything other than coolant to your prelude or you will get the same issues at some point
I have a vacuum leak I couldn't find. The idol was bouncing up and down, it was a rubber seal in between the brake master cylinder and the brake vacuum booster. When I press my brakes hard it idles fine, and when I take my foot off it bounces.
Yup, any vacuum leak would create that sound as well. A good way to test was is to spray brake cleaner around all the areas where you could have air entering the intake system. If there's any leak the car will idle lower or die. You can pinpoint the area while spraying when the engine is running.
I'm buying a prelude soon it has the same problem just trying to figure it out before i do so I know what I'm doing. (Still watching 2mins in) sounds like a washing machine lol
That a coolant valve that pass the coolant from the engine to it and to the idle air control valve on a 1999 honda crv, i got the rubber hose that go to it broken down and i lost all my car coolant, i saw the coolant comming from that broken hose whille the engine on, till thenengine start going ovetheating, and that way i know that a freaking coolant control valve fronthe IACV.
I’ve never seen such surging, its usually light from a dirty throttle body. Did you get your engine swapped? Kudos in the one handed repair while maintaining camera quality.
@@noah_s906 I just checked. It does sound like a loose part. And from I remember, my alternator tensioning bolt was sheared off at some point after this. Hope that helps. Good luck and report back.
I would suggest looking at the idle air valve on the side of the throttle body between the fuel rail. It's visible briefly in the beginning of my video. I'll pull a time stamp for you.
Did the iac valve and fixed ours for a cpl weeks then the surge came back. I’m going to try the fast idle valve, my only question is do you screw the valve all the way until it stops or do you back off at all? Thanks.
All the way in. Either replace the O ring or use blue or red lock tight to secure it. Just tighten it up. There is no need to over tighten it. Good luck
Just today, fire my battery light came on with the brake light, I went for a drive and when I reved it the lights went away. At night I went to go for another drive, the same lights came on and the car for the first time ever started doing that
@@soheilhejazishoar3623 yes, you can drive it for a long time this way. But it will be annoying and possibly embarrassing. It really depends how long you want to deal with it. And you will have performance issues. Nothing serious.
@@PFab damn, today I came to ride the car, rode it, came back home, turned it off tried starting it again, it didn’t start, the battery light has been on but I do get power for everything else except it doesn’t start. It’s weird how this issue and jumping idle came together
My Honda Civic 89 erratic idle ONLY when it hits operating temperature....so, strange....then, it goes away....I have cleaned every part known to mankind...no way to fix this on my car...my assumption....I prefer not to change parts...no codes...oh well..life goes on...oh sometime when I CLEAN external components, it goes away....but always comes back....lol...also, once I loosed the bolt that holds the circle piece the throttle cable wraps around...and that worked for a few weeks, than it went back to same problem...
@@PFab let's say operating temperature is 190 F, for example only, when it hits 190 F it will idle erratically...for about 6-8 seconds...then it goes away....
I had that exact issue on my base 97, just did it actually in the parking lot. Just want to say that my coolant isn’t topped off, I burn coolant if it’s topped off because of a small head gasket leak but I don’t ever overheat, car used to do this only when she was cold but then it became more frequent and didn’t go away, cleaned the other control valve but it wasn’t that dirty and it didn’t fix my issue. When I took the high air control valve the gold nipple wasn’t flush with the plastic ring. Tighten it down threw it back on and car sounds good and idles perfectly
@@tadeovaldez8498 yeah, idle issues suck. Glad you got that fixed. My green Prelude was doing that for over 6 months before I gave up. But just when I was going to just deal with it I tried looking up many RU-vid videos and found one that actually helped guide me to this video. So hopefully you guys don't have to look for days to find your problems. I tried to explain in as much detail and do what you would need to do. Step by step. I had no idea there was too idle air control valves. This one in my video is called the fast idle air control valve. Which caused what I tried to explain in the very beginning of this video. But after attempting to do it, because I was super excited that it actually worked, I tried to replay what my issues was by going backwards from the steps I took to fix it and reverse everything for the sake of putting a great video together. Well not that great. But helpful. 🥴
