However, and Papa probably knows this, Ethan, and the crew, and the mods, and the people in chat have carefully and methodically curated this audience together over the past few years. Fans can't hold him accountable for anything. You try to hold him accountable in chat, you'll get dog piled by other chatters, or banned by a mod. If you're a creator that disagrees with his perspective and is attempting to hold him accountable, the crew will ban you. You can leave a comment but it will most likely never get read and acknowledged. So what's left? You can make a video. But you see, Ethan has built up layers of defensive walls that fuel this victim mentality Papa mentioned earlier in this video. One of them is his "fat man bad" defense, which works pretty effectively. "You're only saying x,y,z because I'm fat and you hate fat people." Common defense against manosphere criticism. Another is transphobe, maga-republican, bigot, racist or anti-Semite/conspiracy theorist. Most common rebuttal against anyone who doesn't align 100% with Ethan's political views. This covers most of his political criticism. But one that's most effective, in my opinion, is the "fallen-fan" defense. Used for those who enjoyed his old content and don't jive with the new stuff for any number of reasons. "Oh they used to love me, but since I grew and changed, and they haven't, they're bitter and want the old me back." This covers most other bases of criticism and is so effective because of the popularity and reach of his old content. Any one of these defenses could be valid too, but the way Ethan cycles through them every time he gets any criticism, valid or otherwise, is so annoying. On top of all that, he largely does what he criticizes Aba and Preach for, clips out of context, never (except a small few times) watching the full video, lying/downplaying old views or takes, making a joke instead of addressing a good point. Just a straight up fucking hypocrite. And I think that's the thing that's made me dislike Ethan the most year after year; that hypocrisy and the self righteousness you see so often in his content now. It's all for not to try to let him or anyone on his crew know that though.

As a black guy I don’t really GAF about Ethan’s blackface thing, but it’s so disingenuous for him to keep saying “it was just a charcoal mask, nothing to do with black face”, in the tweet he tweeted it out with, it was literally a black joke in the caption lmao. How are they women aside from self identification? What about politically? Medically in how to be treated? Papagut is always about nuance but only for certain topics he deems should have nuance.

To me I hear Ethan referring to it as “horrible, and horrific, and the worst thing ever” and I, as a minority, feel like he shames his edgy past so much to the point where it seems like he’s pandering to a woke audience, but that’s my perspective. When Ethan said “I love saying” it, he was doing the shtick he normally does by taking something he knows is wrong and pushing it constantly as much as he can to make people uncomfortable, you can clearly see this with idubbbz in the episode. This has then been misconstrued as Ethan making idubbbz uncomfortable because he “loves saying it.” But the reality is that that’s a false narrative fed to you by people who dislike Ethan. See now how it’s flipped around? It doesn’t make it right, but it does show you how history has been manipulated by the very content creators that exist today, who would’ve never said anything about this at the time, but they are only saying it now because they dislike Ethan. Sorry but this point is embarrassing for Ethan as much as it is for you.

I remember when Pyrocynical talked about how he likes to watch as much of a clip as possible before responding to make sure he has the right context. Now I know what he’s talking about cause both Ethan and Hassan will just pause a video every half second and respond to nothing for 10 minutes because they made an assumption about what the person in the video is going to say or talk about and then they press play, hear the context and either don’t acknowledge it, double down, or they misinterpret the context because they paused it so much.

People fuckin LOVE to hate on Ethan, but even as someone that doesnt mind aba and preach, he was right. He made some solid arguments as to their content, and they didnt really address any of them. Them ducking out of internet drama, as a literal drama channel, is bull. Plus he does have the same expectations, he apologises when he gets called out for being a goblin. I’ve always had a phobia of developmentally disabled people and I hate it I’m so scared to even be in a shop or on public transport with them. I saw a Down’s syndrome man punch a woman in the face because he didn’t want to sit next to her on a bus and I had my phobia long before that. But I think it’s because my primary school was next to a special needs school and it smelled really bad and the staff were strange and miserable, it was a formative time and it’s always stuck with me.
