Most teams this year are going through a weird phase where upgrades aren't really working, and then you have Alpine imploding from within and Sauber being absolute rubbish. I was even down to stay a Haas fan after they announced dropping Kevin because he's my fave. But hiring Ocon...there's just always been something about him that I don't like. So he was the deal breaker for me as a fan. Next season I'll be rooting for other drivers I like on other teams. I'm new as a fan to the sport so I'm not sure how fans like certain teams for long periods of time. Maybe I'll find that in a different team or go back to Haas after Ocon is gone. lol

Just existing If I had to choose HAAS or Andretti to be the American F1 team, I would still choose Andretti (assuming GM/Cadillac power unit). As an American I’ve had mixed feelings about Haas till now. The Steiner era of Haas was fun, but at the end of the day it was because of the humor which just didn’t sit right with me. It almost felt like American motorsports were just being treated as big joke (something something nascar circles etc). Being as car obsessed as we are, it never felt great that we barely had any good representation at the highest level of motorsports. Haas under Komatsu is changing that, which I think for the best.

I somewhat disagree that team principal is engineer heavy job. Shouldn't that be technical director or something. Team principal over sees him, but also handles things like sponsors etc. Like said on video, Steiner did amazing job on first two seasons, managing to lift team to be able to fight for positions no-one was expecting Haas to be competing. Major failure for Steiner was on sponsor and partner department. How on earth something like Andretti got such a well known partners and sponsors behind them and Haas did not? They were doing well and should have easily been able to lure Cadillac as their engine supplier and make team real works team. Haas have had history of been competent with low resources, and could have argued that with Caddilac and major american sponsors they could bring fight to Redbull/Mercedes. Instead they were burned them selves with "burn". Team really needed someone else as it was clear that Steiner was not right guy to get team to next level. I still think for team to take the next step they should hire real team principal and put current one in charge of technical department where he clearly shines.

I'm remembering this as I sit here, so feel free to have at me for miss remembering. Based on nothing but what Drive to Survive provided, they showed Guenther going to Komatsu and asking what is going on with the cars as the upgrade package makes it worse than it was in Australia. Komatsu can't say what is making them not drive as well and you're left with the impression that Guenther is frustrated with this. The decision is made to bring one car back to the Australian race spec and leave the other as is with the upgrades and compare the results. Grosjean and Magnussen take each other out leading to Steiner giving them hell , doors are slammed etc. All very dramatic, and great as far as Drive to Survive is concerned. And on some level the viewer is left with feeling there is something broken at Haas from there on in as things go down hill from there. Phone conversations with Gene get more terse. No more money, go find some on your own is the message from Gene. I don't know what to say about it all except this seemed like a breaking point for Guenther, the Team and Gene that no one seemed to recover from. Put another way, they all played a role in how Haas faired up until Steiner gets fired. Formula One, an expensive microcosm of everyday life under a microscope. Don't ever change.

As an American F1 fan I think of Haas as an "American" team. Gene is an American but the majority of the "team" is European and offshore. An American team would be the addition of ANDRETTI/ChevyGM. I won't hold my breath to EVER see that.

Always blew my mind how people loved him because of drive to survive. The guy was clearly a toxic boss and a bully. Horrible person.

Both Williams, Sauber, Minardi and Aphine (beginning of the season) messed up at the same time. Haas simply filled the space left by nearly the half of the grid. If Gunther was still there, same people shitting on him right now would praise him as the sigma team principle...

Not gonna lie, as a Mick fan I am taking a very smug satisfaction in watching Steiner's incompetent buffoonery finally get called out. Gene Haas not funding his team properly never helped anything, but Steiner was the one who made them a toxic shitshow, something he got away with for far too long thanks to "hurr durr man say swear word in funny accent".

It's nice. I love how Ralf has refused to work with him. Which is extra funny now considering Ralf is now being true to himself. I'd say RTL will pick Ralf over Steiner.

Really not a fan of Steiner but people shouldn’t ignore that the success of the current season also goes back to many decisions Steiner made before he got kicked out. also, they wouldn’t look as good without Hulk who is also a decision made by Steiner.

Of course, there were good ideas amongst the bad ones but the momentum was just lacking and Haas did need a change.

Haas hasn't proven anything yet. See what happens next season to show a bit of consistency and then maybe. Gene has a long way to go to get my support back. For always touting his team as the American team, I never felt it was an American team. Haas seemed as American as Williams. Ownership based in US doesn't make team environment and personality American. A lot of work to do.

Few things, but I’ll just focus on a couple. First off Haas got rid of most of his NASCAR dealings. That’s where a lot of the money is suddenly coming from. Two all of the stuff he’s making fun of Gunther for stuff Gunther had to do in order to make up for the budget shortfall. He would not have gotten in bed with that Russian idiot or that Rich energy drink fool if Hass had been providing the appropriate funds from day one. Last but not least Hunter is still interesting to listen to. He still has a point of view that makes him an enjoyable watch. None of that’s gonna change.

Guenther is a very likable guy but the fact that he wasn't fired IMMEDIATELY following the Rich Energy debacle was baffling. That fiasco set the team back years.

I dont believe any of it to be honest, komatsu is still making all of the decisions around car development, (as he did under guenther) and it just reeks to me of management falling on the sword so the next guy can show the owner that the same problems exist and gets the help the last guy wasnt getting. People have very quickly forgotten how instrumental guenther was in the early days of Haas and just think of him as an inept meme. Im sure team chemistry had suffered at the end of his tenure as he and Gene were no longer pulling in the same direction but i dont believe someone can takeover and show their influence on car performance for atleast 9 months, everything before that falls on the last regime.

As an American i have no hope for Haas. Haas has shuttered their entire NASCAR cup team after this year and that was extremely successful for a while, maybe not so much recently. That gives me zero faith in Gene Haas to make this a successful team. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him sell the team as soon as next year honestly.

I’m from Atlanta… been a fan of f1 for over a decade now but have only been following closely the last 3-4 years…. My opinion of Haas was definitely damaged after 2021-2023. I was a fan simply because it’s considered “American” even tho, as you stated, they’re more English/Italian than American. Seeing Haas doing well is a nice thing to see, but at this point, I think I speak for a good amount of US based fans when I say, please bring Andretti into the mix. Andretti would receive mountains more support than Haas for multiple reasons. Anyway, that’s my American perspective. Cheers!

8:20 No we were not all sad to see Steiner go. Being rude and unprofessional are not good qualities for any leader. He should have been sacked at least 3 years earlier. He was the right guy (maybe) for the first couple of years after the team was founded, but the wrong guy to form it into a serious operation.
