Thank you. Kolbe is hectic, but if you break down Habs career. You cannot compare them. Also scored 57 international tries playing against what was at the time perennial 2 best teams in the world. Not only that, he played in a period where the Boks and Bulls we very defensive and never swung the ball to the wings. I love Kolbe to bits, but he needs to play more internationals and score as may try against good opponents to even compare. Just my half a cent worth....
Chuma Nogxina Yep, agree, interesting stat is under Jake White Habana scored 30 tries in 37 test matches, under Pieter de Villiers Habana only scored 10 tries in 38 test matches, under Heineke Meyer he scored 25 tries in 43 tests.
No doubt Habana was faster, probably one of the fastest players ever. Kolbe the better stepper though, if I had to choose one Habana in his prime was along with Lomu probably the best wing ever.
Habana is more effective. They have different styles but share a few similar strengths e.g. timing , work rate, positional play acceleration and speed. Kolbe has amazing feet but Habana is quicker and more direct and stronger on contact and on his feet.
Very different playing styles, but i'd say Habana was quicker and Kolbe has superb footwork and elusive..both incredibly talented players in their strengths
Cheslin is posting similar times and even quicker in sprint tests according to Mzwandile Stick (Boks Backline coach). Kolbe was quicker than Senatla and Specman over 10m and 40m sprint tests and was only slower than Mapimpi..
Right now I'd take Habana, simply because of experience. We have to remember that Kolbe has only been on the international stage for a couple years. Ask the question in 5-7 years time the answer might be different
Totally different type of players. Better to compare Habana to Mapimpi both players who are pure speed but Colbe another level because of his side stepping
Is Mapimpi that fast? Everyone tells me he is but I’ve never seen him outstrip the opposition like Habana did. But I agree with you Kolbe and Habana completely different.
Ryan Waugh The thing with Mapimpi is, that he just consistently keeps scoring tries, regardless of the level of the competition. He’s not lightning fast, he’s not the biggest guy, he’s not the best side-stepper either. Yet it somehow doesn’t seem to matter as he in spite of all that simply always finds a way to score tries.
2 completely different players. One is a stepper and the other a speedster. One is relatively new to international rugby while the other is the top try-scorer in the history of tier-one nations - 67 international tries. Ask me again in 8 years time.
I think you are wrong there. Habana was also magnificent from day one. Kolbe is not a legend. He has had one and a half good years thats all. When he has had 5 first class years then maybe he will be called a legend.

Both different types of player. But both had pace√; step✓; individual brilliance✓; defence✓; finishing abilities✓ I would argue Bryan seemed to chip more, whilst Kolbe I feel is better under the high ball. If I could pick a SA 15 team for all time. They both mould make the list. Legends. Kolbe still has a huge career ahead.
Bryan is a speedster, doesn't need to side step because he can back himself up with pace. Kolbe on the other hand is not that fast (relative to most wings) but has excellent footwork to create space in tight situations.
Funny thing is Kolbe is just as fast as Bryan over 40m but quicker over 100m according to Mzwandile Stick.. In terms of raw speed remember Bryan was 3rd behind Nokwe and Chavhanga in the Bok setup and behind Demas at the Bulls..
kolbe still has a long way to go before catching up to the lgend Habana , tho they have diffrent strengths i still think habana did the most judging stats,, so kolbe stil has to add to his achievements greatly... shoutout to kolbe for the RWC final..bt e road is still long
Habana was a class finisher, but Kolbe´s work on the field brings more to the team, he tackles with heart and soul, great under the high ball, and a wider vision of the game overall.

Kolbe is definitely one of top wingers in world rugby right now. But Habana goes down as one of greatest wingers of all time, this is coming from an All Blacks Supporter. Give Kolbe a long enough career as Habana’s and then we could start to compare the two. No disrespect to Kolbe but he’s nowhere near Habana at this moment in time
Both great, Habana greater speed, especialy on topend. Kolby, dancing feet, great feeling for the game, like Brian... Different eras though... My vote will have to go to Brian!
If I had to choose one it would be Cheslin Kolbe any day, Kolbe can play any position in the backline from 9 to 15.. Kolbe should go down as one of if not the best backline player of all time
Habana is legend blitz'ing opposition for years, Kolbe has only in the last two seasons fit into the Bok setup. Give a couple more years before you can compare Kolbe to Habana.
Kolbe's best sprint times are about the same as Habana. On attack Kolbe can thread space through a needle. Habana, had he played in a team with an expansive game, would have been absolutely devastating. Kolbe is the next level matrix guy.
Kolbe is not nearly as fast as Habana on any sprint, also, I love him but he has a lot more to prove to be mentioned among the likes of Habana, Campese, Lomu etc
@@Stroh538 We are talking about speed not achievements. The former Blitzbok Speed and Conditioning Coach, Allan Temple-Jones, said Kolbe is fast in 40m sprint tests. Bryan had world class speed but he wasn't always the quickest Bok. Nokwe, Chavhanga, Jordaan and Basson were ahead and that's according to Jake White.. But when it comes to achievements he's ahead. And Bryan did say Kolbe will beat him to 50-60m but he thought he would win over 100m.
I'm a bok supporter and im 11 years old but I've played rugby as a winger on the right and left side but honestly kolbe is faster better footwork and quik

But guys, Habana was something else though... not only A GOAT winger, but a GOAT rugby player. Up there with Lomu. Cheslin is a superstar in his own right though...

No disrespect to Habanas legacy, but he never had the agility that cheslin has. Pace was & strength no doubt. Even if kolbe isn't as fast as he was, I'd still pick kolbe cause he's got everything and some💪
They are both equally great but if animal farm applies here then Kolbe is more equal than Havana and the credence here being back to back World cup medal. You are equally great Havana.
Habana had the pace. No doubt. But kolbe had the step and skill. If i should compare it to football. Habana would be the renaldo of football. And kolbe would be the messi of football. Kolbe could make something out of nothing. He could make the impossible possible
Bro I'm sorry not everybody wants to hear this but habana was brilliant but he doesn't compare to kolbe alot of habanas tries were made for him like mapimpi but cheslin makes his own tries and exsecutes it 100%
Kolbe has more talent and higher rugby IQ, he can play multiple positions and is effective even coming of the bench. He can score from any position and has the skills to beat players one on one. He has that Xfactor Habana was more of a finisher earlier on on his career and he evolved into a defensive and cross covering winger as the tries dried up. He became more of a hard worker than a finisher. Most of his tries came from having an overlap or a chip and chase. I always said habana over stayed his spell with the springboks, thats the common theme with boks anyway. If you look at the wings the New Zealand had over the same time habana was with the national team you will understand that his record is not as clinical. Rocokoco Mills Cory jane Savea Ben Smith Milner skuder Rico gear Sivivatu Zac Guildford Israel dagg Most of these wingers were more talented than habana and were more effective and they at one point faces habana and were succeded by another whilst they were still on their prime keeping a long list of finishers with a high game to try ratio. These New Zealanders were try machines and we wonder why the all blacks out score every team. They keep a good core in their team and pick players with X Factor in certain positions, players who will win them games with their individual brilliance. Kolbe should have been a bok long ago same with Geo Aplon.
They are both brilliant, they are South Africans our hero's we don't compare them.Finish and klaar. We just enjoy their results and both of them play for the team and US.That is all that we want.❤❤❤❤
Don't think you can compare these two. Habana had amazing straight line speed but Kolbe is an amazing stepper. They are completely different players with Habana being more comparable to Mpimpi in the current Bok setup.
@@Ballers247 In that Bok team the closest player to an Habana was Mpimpi. Mpimpi and Habana are almost identical heights and weights and they have very similar speeds. Kolbe is more of a Paulse - smaller with an amazing step.
Habana all the way, not even a contest. Cheslin is amazing but his record doesn't come close to Habana. Habana= most world cup tries in a single tournament and most career world cup tries, he shares those two records with Lomu. Most Springbok tries and second most tries by any player in international rugby, two super rugby titles, two cc titles, Heineken cup winner, French top 14, tri-nations title, wc title and British and Irish Lions series winner. Habana is a Springbok and world rugby legend, he ranks up there with Frik Du Preez, Naas Botha, Danie Gerber, Jonah Lomu, Gareth Edwards, Philippe Sella, Zinzan Brook and Michael Jones to name just a few.
Let us all calm down here boys. Cheslin is awesome and very exciting, but Habana is King and will be for a long time. He has 66 Springbok tries to say so.
What rubbish! Kolbe still has some time before we judge. Habana was fast, talented - AND he worked for that ball. Kolbe is a great stepper. Both have excellent vision. Habana Prime for me.
