I watched another Canadian team load up with a bunch of offensive forwards, then I watched them struggling to get out of their own end for the next three years. This is an unpopular move but maybe management saw a lot more developmental upside to Reinbacher. Since D men take extra time to develop, they may take that forward next year.

Habs are covering their asses .. they got Slaf as the first overall pick.. and so, they want results fast. They did not want to wait Michkov 5 yrs.. Tbey got a Reinbacher.. a responsible D that will shine in the +\- .. nothing fancy but will contribute to win games… They want to also make an easier job for Monty.

@@anthonytiramani-ct3tt Reinbacher isn't playing here next year, he's finishing school, and when he does come in two years, he may not be NHL ready, so he will probably spend time in Laval, so it may take 3 years before we see him full time, which is the same amount of time we would have had to wait for Michkov, OR they could have taken Ryan Leonard, I think that's a better pick anyway, he's going to be an exciting player to watch. We got a defensive defenseman who scored 3 goals in the Swedish Elite League last year, so dont get your hopes too high. Im sure he will be a great defensive defenseman, and every team needs at least one, but to get it with the 5th overall pick with so much talent left available, we r going to regret this one for a LONG time.

Reinbachers “lack” of offensive game is overstated. He had 22 points in 46 games as an 18 year old d-man in the 3rd best league in Europe (only a small handful of players in this draft played against tougher competition). He had 3 goals, 12 primary assists and 7 secondary assists, so 0.33 primary pts/game as a d-man in his draft year is actually quite good. But more importantly, it’s not like he hasn’t reached his offensive ceiling. He’s 18 so of course there’s lots of room to grow.

People, people, geeeez. Calm down. - For those who wanted for Habs to trade down at rank 7 with Philly to get more as a return for taking David... they most likely knew Arizona were going to pick a D and they would not have gotten him, or at least it would have been too risky to not get their selection. - For those who are complaining about selecting a D in a very deep offensive-oriented draft, i get it. I would have loved that they go with Mitchkov or Leonard as well. But David is not a bad choice either. He has a top-notch first pass that has been the plague of the Habs for i dont know how many years. He gonna kill PKs / shut down other lines, make the goalie more comfortable and facilitate the transition. It is true that we have 5 out of the 6 on the top 2 lines for the 4-5+ years right now: caufield-suzuki-newhook-dach-slav we now have a complete D roaster as well for years to come: guhle-mailloux-harris-hudson-xhekaj-(now)reinbacher and even more. that D will give nightmares to the other teams in 2-3 years down the line.

Big shut down D is what you need to win cups. And we have that in Reinbacher, Guhle and Xhekaj. We also have 3 puck movers in Mailloux, Hutson and Barron. They set up the D for years to come. They want to build a Stanley Cup winning team, not a presidents trophy winning team. I think this is the right pick. They have enough talented forwards now. With Newhook, Dach could play C full time. A 1,2 of Suzuki and Dach is great. And we have size up front in Dach, Slaf, and Anderson. The only thing missing is a true n.1 goalie. And I think the Habs will address that on Day 2
@davepeak25

It s a rebuild!! You re now set on D and have pieces you can deal to get forwards. No clue why people are upset. Armia. Gallagher. Drouin. Edmondson. Monahan. Harris. Anderson are all chips to be dealt. This pick tells me they wont compete next year but they will rsbuild and be champs. All you short term fix guys are lost😊

I specifically remember just a few days ago, Habs management saying, "We are going with the best available player". They DEFINITELY didnt do that. We drafted for position, AGAIN!!! Habs NEED scoring. We NEED goal scoring, like Michkov, or Leonard (Leonard's style of play is awesome, he's fun and exciting to watch, dude hits when HE has the puck! lol).I was talking to my buddy when we were watching the draft, he is a Habs fan too, he said imagine they draft a defenseman!!! lol, i was like NO CHANCE!!! I soooo wanted Ryan Leonard, and when i seen that he was still available, i was stoked. In my mind i was thinking it's DEFINITELY between Leonard, or Michkov, i thought 110% FOR SURE, they were taking one of those guys, and I WISH they would have. We are going to regret this for a decade and a half. I bet we would have gone with Will Smith if he was still available, FUCK!!! (sorry!).(The commentator guy was talking about Ryan Leonard, he said this kid has muscles in his face!!) lol. Michkov is going to be in his prime, and on an entry level contract, so ur probably getting at least a 40 goal guy, maybe more on an entry level contract, so he's making max $950,000 i think it is!! I am sooo saddened by this pick, i woke up this morning, all was good, until i sat up, and remembered what i witnessed last night, then i felt like i got kicked in the nuts all over again... I know he's a defensive d man, but come on, he scored THREE goals in 46 games last year, THREE!!! And that isn't in the NHL, i think it was Swedish Elite league. Im sure Reinbacher is a fine defenseman, dont get me wrong, but he shouldnt have went 5th. If Toronto made that pick at 5, i would be laughing my ass off still, it would have made my day!! lol. But it wasn't toronto, it was us. 🤢 Ive been so confident in Hughes and Gorton so far up to this point, they've been doing such an incredible job, and then this happens. I could have gotten over it, if they didnt take Leonard, or Michkov, but at least go with a forward! Last night if they would have gotten fired on the spot (Hughes and Gorton), i would have applauded!!! I dont want them to get fired now, but i just can't wrap my head around it, i cant wait to see how they explain this pick, without saying we drafted him because he was a right shot defenseman, two days after saying we are going to draft the best available player. They could have at least traded down a little and gotten a decent player, and still taken Reinbacher.

Confused more than disappointed…losing 31 and 38 picks created stress for this pick given there is no second chance after the 5th pick and they did this to get a 5’10” forward I guess to take care of offence and then picked a defence man over what we were told was a generational player in Michkov…so yes confused. Like many on this channel, I still have my reservations about Slaf as a first pick and last year did little to make me feel better…trust has to be earned. And I am also confused if I trust this management

Ill admit i was a little taken back with the pick but a right shot d man is hard to come by and hes a good one. A damn good one. Habs bet on slav last year and this pick tells me they still have faith in that pick to turn out they filled a need. After thinking about it. I like it. Look what edmonton did with 4 very talented drafted forwards.....absolutly nothing.

* Copy paste of my comment from Draft video: * Am I missing something here? I live out west and don't get to watch a lot of games, and am not laser focused on the nitty gritty of the team, but why is defense bad? Like what was our Goals Against for the year because we got lit up more than time square. I don't know if Reinbacher is any good, but I can't think of any names or evidence that says our D isn't in dire need of some work. Also living out west I can tell you first hand the joke of the Oilers. I mean putting up amazing stats like Mcdavid does is great...... doesn't mean S@## when your end of the ice is a sieve. I don't know, I won't pretend to know anything about hockey, so maybe someone can enlighten me, but I don't think this is as apocalyptic as I am hearing. * Also he is a defenseman I know you want him getting SOME points, but that's not his job. Given my point stated I want his DEFENSE to be good not his offense.
@dmanthony
@dmanthony Год назад
His +/- was 2nd best on his team last season. Most guys were a - rating. The only guy better is 36 yrs old with lots of experience. Points, especially goals, don't define a defensive d-man. If the defence gives up less goals per game, that gives a better chance at winning.

I have nothing against Reinbacher. He'll probably be a good Dman with the habs. I just feel sorry for the kid, he didn't decide to be chosen at 5. The habs fanbase is not very forgiving and even if he is a decent Dman, I feel that for the next decade the fanbase will consider him like the guy that was picked over Michkov instead of being his own thing. Let's hope he breaks free of this image or else the pressure on his shoulders will be unbearable.

The pick for Reinbacher isn't a popular move, picking D normally isn't. But he is the best developed D prospect of the draft. Shoots right, is mobile and look at the D core for Las Vegas. Big mobile and hard to play against. This is what Reinbacher is going to be like. Plus he is a right shooting defenseman which Montreal needs. A top pairing defenseman that should be with Lane Hutson. Guhle will either be a in the top 4 as well but again he shoots left. Hutson - Reinbacher Guhle - Barron These 4 will win championships together.
