My first time watching this movie I cried for about 45 minutes straight. I was about 25 years old, male. It wasn't bawling tears, crying my eyes out or anything. But they wouldn't stop coming. Like a sad but beauty at the same time. No movie has ever came close to doing such. When anyone wants to talk sad movies, I always throw in Hachi.

My husband has been blessed with bonding with two dogs in his life to date. The bonds were so strong that I had to physically take them outside to the bathroom as neither one would leave his side when he was sick in bed. They refused food and water as well unless I brought the bowls to his bed. Unfortunately one has passed and the other one is still with us. She's old now but still remains faithfully beside him.

I wish I can go to Japan and visit the Hachi statue. My foster parents had a couple of really nice dogs when I was growing up. I loved them. When Casey passed from an accident, I was devastated. He was a beautiful German Shepard/Husky cross, and only a few years old at the time. That was more than 30 years ago now, but I'd still love nothing more than to have him again by my side.

Puppy breath is the best smell on the planet. Old Yeller is a lovely story and a classic Disney film. Movies about dogs are almost always wonderful and sad. The dog almost always dies at the end. Dogs teach us how to grieve.I have nothing against cats, I've just never had one. This film is directed by Lasse Halstrom, a Swedish director. He directed some Abba videos, but also directed What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, My Life As A Dog and A Dog's Purpose (Apparently he really likes dogs.) and his first name sounds like Lassie. My dog Rufus is a very active dog, but he doesn't play fetch. He watches the person throw the ball and then says "Cool".

If you want to see Jed play a hero watch "The Journey of Natty Gann"(1985) such a beautiful movie. Or "White Fang"(1991) based on the classic novel.

Started when I was 15 back in 1972 and he always told his clients, when you select a new pet, be it dog, cat, or horse, let the animal choose you. This dog lived by his choice. Sadly moving.

"The Yearling" (1946, in color) from the best selling and Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Marjorie Rawlings, starring Gregory Peck, has a boy in 1870's rural Florida adopting an orphaned fawn. Nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, the storyline includes struggles with the local wildlife (bear and poisonous snake) and some diverse neighbors. Drama and humor and heartwarming.

One of my all time favorite singers wrote a song inspired by the story of Hachi. She wrote it before this movie was made, but I think the movie was already being made by the time she released the song. She's from the US but as a teen got signed on to a S.Korean company. So in her travels as a kpop singer they visited Japan & she heard the story, & having dogs of her own that she loved she got inspired to write a heartfelt song about the true & loyal love dogs have. It's in Korean & English mixed. It's called Love Run by Amber Liu. No official video, only a couple of fan made vids, but very pretty.

(Nothing beats a Dog's sense of smell) You guys need a Dog movie with a happier ending after this one. Try "White Fang" (1992)..Young Gold Prospector Ethan Hawke and a Half-Wolf/Dog begin as enemies, but save each other's lives and become brothers against the hostile Yukon outback and murdering gold-thieves.

There was a recording that was released years ago that had the real Hachi barking in the background. It was a huge release in Japan because it was the first time his bark had been heard in, I believe, 59 years. Millions of people tuned in to hear it. There's a picture of the professor's wife w/ members of the train station surrounding & bowing to Hachi's remains when they found him after he passed. He was cremated & laid to rest next to his master.

A Native American parable says: "The Great Spirit decided to separate the worlds of animals and man. He gathered all the living beings on a great plain and drew a line in the dirt. On one side of the line stood man, and on the other stood all the animals of the earth. When that line began to open up into a great canyon, and before it became too great to cross, the dog jumped over and stood by man." These words are forever etched into my heart.

And My Dad and I sat in our car and cried when we had to leave our Dog "Snoopy" at the Veterinarian, he was "Irish Setter and German Shepard mix". He was actually my older brother's Dog, until he married and left home. Snoopy was chewing the hair on his hips off, my Mom said that he was dying, she could smell the Cancer on him. He had Lymph Node cancer in his hips ....he was a very sweet dog and looked so confused when we left him. They were going to keep him calm with pain pills until my Brother came home from vacation, Kenny told me that he took Snoopy to the park and spent time with him and then he held him while they put him to sleep. My parents wouldn't get another dod after that. They had a dog before I came along named Skippy, he died and they decided to get Snoopy. But after getting attached to two dogs and them both passing.....they decided to not get another dog. 😥

I moved countries with my two fur boys a few months ago. They had to travel in the hold of the plane and I was so worried about them especially since I couldn't be on the same connection. They went from Dublin to Madrid, stayed there overnight and then from Madrid to Barcelona. I picked them up at the airport and they didn't make a sound all the way to our new home. It almost broke my heart. Now 3 months later we've all settled in well and they wake me up purring and chirping again. They actually love our new (so much warmer and sunnier) home. It cost me about 1400 € (so about 1500 $) including the vet visits, vaccinations, travel crates (they could not even be in the same crate as per airline regulations) .... I am not made of money, but I would not have taken the opportunity (promotion within the company) and relocated, if that would have meant going without them 😺❤😺

She's asking everyone that comes in the courtyard if they'd seen her? Back outside that night still looking for her, had the Security Guard helping her look.. still no Ginger. The next day while she was sleep, she hears crying she wakes up Ginger looking her in the face crying cause now after being gone all day and ALL NIGHT she's hungry. She just saunters in like nothing happened. The tramp! Lol

Hachi is an Akita. From Japan. Highly intelligent and loyal.

The one I love about dogs Is there pure and loyal but there not driven by greed or hate like humans. They don't act human they are loyal and good companions. And will be there for you. As long as you treat them good, they will be good back to you. I love how smart they are too how to train to for recuse and helping out others.

Dogs can be more loyal then most humans cannot be.

If Old Yeller is about a loyal dog Hachi said hold my beer. Also, the 1st personn in the USA to havr an Akita was Helen Keller. She received it as a gift from Japan.

The loyalty of Akitas is real. My son got his first Akita 12 years ago and now has a 2nd. I have a Shiba Inu (which is the breed the puppy in the movie is) and an Akita. These dogs are amazing and SO smart. And no, they don’t play fetch. It is as if they are insulted by the notion. They are AMAZING dogs. I absolutely loved watching this with you. ❤❤❤❤

I'd like to say I hope you two enjoyed this movie but it's one I haven't been able to bring myself to watch again. It just hits too hard in the feels.

I saw the title of this reaction and jumped on it. I watched this film when I was home from work sick, I was telling my daughter the story a week later and couldn’t stop crying again. Believe me, you are not the only ones that have sobbed at this film!

As a previous owner of an Akita, I can confirm how smart and loyal that breed is. Wonderful breed.

We've had so many Anita's and they are so lovable. And as babies, they are just balls of fur. ❤

My sister wanted to move to Hawaii and found out she would have to quarantiee their dog so she decided not to cause she couldn't lock him up. I took my dog in from a co-woker who found him. My Rusty was the best dog ever. My buddy had an Akita great dogs. He made his own dog food for him and you couldn't lay down next to him if you weren't his owner or he get mad.

Man, the first time i watched this movie, i was crying so much that i had to grab a towel for my tears because tissues weren't sufficient. The thing his i was familiar with the story of the real Hachiko before i watched this, and it still wrecked me.

If you love Old Yeller and Hachi, you should watch Disney's Incredible Journey from 1963.
