just got my jooki 2, AND just discovered your incredible channel (via the gameboy wifi video)...gotta say, you are impressive ! will definitely try this one for the jooki !

I saw the thumb nail and was like "wtf he's hacking a Bluetooth speaker" then i saw the title and went "? kids mp3 player? but it looks like a Bluetooth speaker" now idk what this thing is but its cool how open and easy it is to control.

Wow, was für ein krasser Channel, bin echt froh, dich entdeckt zu haben! Könntest du ein Video machen, in dem du ein bisschen mehr auf OpenHab und die Möglichkeiten eingehst? Mich juckt es richtig in den Fingern, das mit dem Jooki nachzubauen (unser Kind ist auch gerade ein Jahr alt), aber wir haben noch kein Smart Home System (außer Alexa) im Haus. Hab dich abonniert, bin gespannt, was noch kommt!

It's nice when a project turns out to offer more than you expect . Well done. Am I able to search >> select a song or artist to play using Spotify via MQTT or just play an existing playlist ? That would be so useful.. I don't have kids but would almost buy one if so. They should offer a 'grown up' version too. I don't chew my players..

agreed, this would potentially also be great for seniors/dementia/alz. patients/developmentally challenged folks, a nice all black or off-white would be nicer to allow more dignity than the loud childish colors and the characters use NFC so you could even potentially replace them with generic NFC tags (key fobs/pvc-cards) As for search it doesn't seem to be an available command at least in the write-up, there is playlists as the Spotify intigration can start a Spotify playlist on a character being scanned but I didn't see if it could be triggered from app/web(mqtt) Assuming: Start playlist = /j/web/input/PLAYLIST_PLAY = {“playlistId”:”%s”,”trackIndex”:1} I think the ID would likely be the scanned character, and the index would define what track to start on (hopefully a value like 0 might be random?)

Whenever I see RGB LEDs I always think "Cheerlights would work well with this" - doubly so if your kid has anything else that lights up and can match the colours!

Does this still work with the latest firmware 3.9.94-wa-47e16b49 ? I am able to connect to the MQTT broker on the default port but there is silence

You gave me quite a shock there, but I just checked. When I connect to the Jooki (mosquitto_sub) and hit the Device info button on the web interface, I get "firmware":"3.9.94-wa-47e16b49". So, I am on the same version and it is working. Did it work before? Is nothing showing up when you use the web interface?

Not sure about that. I released this video 1 1/2 years ago and also tweeted it at them. So far none of the firmware updates have changed anything about it. I also don't think that there is a reason. There isn't really anything harmful in there and it's nice to have that option. On the other hand, there are so many IoT devices that are locked down for no particular reason, so I should not be too surprised if it still happens.

@@ThereOughtaBe really my comment is a little fatalistic. I'm pleased to hear that they haven't followed what seems to be a standard procedure of exposing as little useful functionality as possible to the end user. I might even buy one.
