Are there any studies on the impact on the NAc from video games? It would seem the constant reward/disappointment of games would overload the NAc. Would that contribute to the high levels of anxiety among so many kids and young adults?
Yes, studies have shown that the brain adapts to the flooding of neurotransmitters brought on by habitual video game use by down-regulating the number of dopamine receptors (and/ or decreasing their sensitivity to dopamine). This downregulation results in decreased pleasure from lower-level stimuli (like reading a book or eating a good meal) in the NAc and other structures in the limbic system.
Oh.... SUCH a great question!!! YES!!! That's the goal of most meditation practices. After going through major life traumas (cancer, divorce, cancer again) dance and mindfulness practice taught me to let go of anxiety and truly live in the beautiful moment I'm in. Decades later, life is amazing!!! It's a difficult and long journey with no destination. Find a mentor, take small steps every day and GOOD LUCK!!!
@@Penguinprof Love that!!! I experienced a lot of emotional neglect and unpredictability growing up and I would intuitively/instinctively dance and move my body from when I was a child. I learned years later about the nervous system and movements like TRE and somatic therapy. Thank you for your work
Yes! Please seek professional advice, but things to consider: CBT, psychotherapy, mindfulness-based practices and medication. Exercise, support groups and being in nature are also very healing. Wishing you all the best on your journey. Please remember, you are not alone! Find others who can help.
