mixing and mastering engineer does the mixing and mastering for a song. like making sure the levels are right maybe throwing some EQ, compressors and a whole bunch of other plug ins on it to make it sound "radio ready". you can mix each sound in the project (mixing) as well as putting stuff on the master track which applies to every track in the project (mastering) . most producers do some level of mixing as they make the beats to get each sound sounding how they want and a lot of producers also master their stuff. but for big time albums by big artist they have a mixing and mastering engineer that comes along after the whole project is done and puts the final touches and makes it "radio ready"

@@ALF_Films No he would be more described as a producer. now most producers have knowledge and ability in mixing and engineering it just kinda comes with the territory. but to have the title mixing and mastering engineer that's generally your main job like in a studio you'll have producer and an artist come and record and then a mixing engineer does the mixing and mastering. that's why you can get a degree in music production and also in sound engineering they are two different degrees.BUT like I said most producers have knowledge in those areas and some even have both degrees. I have a degree in sound engineering but Im a producer. I started out as a producer and did that for 8 years before getting my degree and I only got it to expand my knowledge and not have to rely on anyone else after making my own songs that I also produced. so I do it all. these days a lot of producers mix their own songs. but when you get to a high level, like labels and big artists, most of the time a professional engineer will be involved. that's why songs will have two credits, a producer and an engineer. I can put it this way, there are sound engineers that aren't producers and dont know how to make beats most producers know a little bit of the engineering process but not always in depth
