The best part for me in Hades, is when you die to the rat in the Styx and Hypnos laughs at you hysterically for dying by it. From then on, Zagreus has fear in his voice everytime he sees it.
@@josharrow1111 (My first reply didn't show up so round two here we go...) Cause representation matters. Even in our more "Progressive" present, LGBTQ+ folks are often ignored and invalidated. The systems we have to navigate aren't built to properly accommodate us, and the few that do exist are half-assed at best. LGBTQ+ folks have heavily relied on building our own spaces and communities, which are built by sharing our experiences, and being open about who we are. OP was only trying to uplift Astro's identity. Especially sense Non-white people are often excluded from queer spaces and not given the same respect white folks are. Instead of getting mad at marginalized people uplifting one other, be mad at those in power who made our sexualities' and identities criminal, and the ones today that are barely doing anything other than the bare minimum.

I'm over 60 runs into the game and this vid STILL managed to show me things I hadn't seen before (I've never even SEEN Hunting Blades but I'm going for them on my next run now)! The shield was the first weapon I managed to beat the game with, and it's honestly a perfect crutch if you don't care much about the time you're taking. If you get the hammer upgrade that makes so charging your shield fires a laser instead of making you dash, it's even easier.
i got Hades as a Christmas present and have been playing it nonstop since. it's just... so good. supergiant has a track record of good games (you can pry transistor from my cold dead hands), but this one takes the cake personally
The Unseen Ones might be the best single track of any videogame in the past few years, and I'm extremely glad that Captain took notice Not just because it's an absolute BANGER AMONSGT BANGERS, it also fits perfectly into the fight as a whole Sharing it melodies with God of the Dead, but up-ing its BPM and intensity mirrors how much of a different beast Extreme Mesures Hades is to his regular version Both the fight and the song escalating further and further in a desperate scrap of a boss battle to see if you come short of the final challenge, or if you barely seized an amazing victory

Actually beat hell dad the first time with Chaos Shield and cleared the most times with it, it was my fave. (I also main dual blades in MHR so I'm glad you have excellent taste.) You have defensive blocking. You have close-combat hits. You can throw it. You can do your little invincible rush thing. IDK what else you want from a weapon. I'm kind of shit at action games, so the fact that I beat Hades eventually at all (first clear at attempt ~60) probably says how good it is.
A fun thing they do is that the sword is the high skill floor high skill ceiling weapon, and you start with it. So you unlock the spear and go "im doing so much better" and then you want to unlock the rest to see what they do. and then when you've done that and you're 10X better, you think, "maybe i should try the sword again" and now you're kicking ass with the fastest (second)most damaging weapon in the game
The music. I’ve only gotten to the surface 4 times and every time I just took a break and listens to the music. Every little beat of the drums and cords from the harps and the guitar riffs, oh my god the Guitar Riffs. The music is by far the best part of the game, it’s like the perfectly picked little cherry on top of the gigantic mondo sized cake of a game. I just wish that Orpheus would stop whining about “my muse” and SING already.
I’ve slayed my good ole dad almost 300 times at this point but I’m still not tired of this game. I even started a bunch of fresh files just to re experience the story over and over again remembering what it was like to feel underpowered and struggling to overcome obstacles. Hades made me get over a lot of the mental hang ups I have had with dying in games. No matter what you do or what outcome, the narrative and how it unfolds makes it feel like a reward.
They're Greek gods. They're supposed to be beautiful because they're basically physically perfect versions of humans. Why do you think we call a beautiful woman and especially a handsome man a Greek god(des).
Now that its been long enough to truly reflect on the game, watching this and going back to it. This may be my favorite game ever not from my childhood, and I don't even play rogue whatevers
I usually spec everything into Hermes and Zeus, with Athena's dash so I can be a cracked up cheetah who never stops moving and is mostly invulnerable while doing so.
I love hades for the art style and gameplay loop. The mythological origin and made up story is amazingly mixed and I want to see games of other genre with other mythology setting like hades. Egypt, Norse etc Also glad to see I'm not the only one disliking the poopy spear, I get that they are trying to differentiate it with Excalibur but come on the one weapon with Chinese origin got absolutely shitted on
Hades finally booted Yakuza Zero from second favorite game. Still couldn't beat FFT, but damn close. I PRE-ORDERED the vinyl set and almost waited 2 years for it, but it was so worth it. Thanks for the review, I love it.
Fun fact: there's another supportive shade in the Asterius fight, but they don't have a special dialogue or color. Hades is a certified hunting blades/10
I remember when Guan was considered so broken it was the top of the meta. I'm a fan of the final Rail though, always will be. Nothing beats that for coolness.
I played a lot of this game, beat it a few times but my first was after 100 runs 🤣 I'm not uhmuhzeeeng at games...but it's the first rogue-lite I died more than 5 times on, so that says something about how addicting it is. I kept watching cuz it was a fucking hilarious video. Kept my attention on a game I knew all but like 2 things you mentioned. Besides the game itself, the voice acting is absolutely incredible, totally agree. Everyone has such personality, not just with their actions but the way they talk. It fits the characters tremendously well and it takes soooo long to run out of new voice lines. The music is also great, but I feel like the amount of effort that was put into the music is overshadowed by the effort for the voice acting
Best solo game I ever played, bought it on first day of early access then two more because it is that great a masterpiece. @Captain Astronaut keep up the good work ;)
I want to echo that if you don't like rogue like games, then don't be put off by this game. I don't like rogue likes but this game kept winning so many awards I said well I have to try it and I was really glad I did. This game is amazing.
The 3rd phase fight with Hades was a true impression of how I felt after winning it the first time xD Btw if you think that 10 wins gets you the true ending of the game then I've got news for ya: there is a true true ending that took me around 90 runs to unlock xD
I agree with everything you said, this game is fucking great and all the characters are so incredibly hot it hurts. Like, I could die in Achilles's arms and as long as my face rests in his biceps everything will be alright, same with like, giant man Hades who's not a good dad but happens to be hot as fuck
Shield is super easy to play (especialy with free deflect!) But my fav will always be a gun, it was my first weapon to beat hades with split rocket (special attack upgrade to split shoot+rocket laucher) plus bonus damage to special attack from gods and i just raped every singe boss, this damege was so insane when u hit someone with all rockets!! (Sadly is super duper hard to get this comboxD)

I am an omega chad gamer after all, I've played 10 seconds of dark souls, so I know what I'm doing. This is a joke btw, I didn't struggle with hades much but it is quite difficult.
as a huge fan of Greek mythology I'm o happy they didn't do the annoying thing of making Hades just greek Satan because he's not that. they make him so understandable as a God with a job to do and his all his damn son wants to do fight, drink and have great sex with thanatos and megera

One of the worst feelings in this game is getting to the final boss, seeing the rare fish spot, and then losing the run. Also yeah this game is gay and I’m here for it.
I enjoyed this game a ton, its great. Sadly i got turned off it a little since it felt too repetitive (i reached the surface a 3x and had no motivation to go for more) and the story progress was too slow for me. 20 mins of combat for like, 2 lines of dialog per character. I also maxed 3 relationships and was bummed out that you get next to nothing for it story wise That being said i 100% recommend giving it a try. If i had bought the game instead of playing it on gamespass (where other games like yakuza0 took preference) i would have finished it, probably have gone through the effort to 100% it too since its a great game
I thought it was alright. It's really fun and addicting, and nothing really is wrong with it, but I wasn't really engaged with story, especially on a per-run basis. I don't think the achievements and dark thirst is enough to keep you from attempting the same strategy every time. I would've given goty to doom eternal. Unpopular opinion.
Man I seriously wished I like this game, I think the art is gorgeous and the story is awesome but I absolutely hate the gameplay, and I'm a huge roguelike guy, my favourite being Isaac.
That’s a big shame. It’s the opposite for me, I love roguelikes but absolutely suck at and don’t have fun with bullet hell/twin stick combat. So, no Isaac, Nuclear Throne, or Gungeon for me.
@@ipsum2224 Damn, that's understandable. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Gungeon because the runs start to feel really samey, but I consider Isaac to be the golden standard for all other roguelikes.
The game is made so that you’ll get strong enough to win eventually, you just beat it a little faster if you go into it with more gamer skills (tm). There’s also an option called god mode that gives you a little more damage resistance each time you die, which is perfect for getting to eventually see everything.
15:36 The thing with higher and even higher budgets is those games need to bring back more and more money. Similar to the non-sense of "eternal growth" businesses earnings on our physically LIMITED earth... it makes no sense to keep pushing more and even more budget into games. Yes for the big graphic you need allot people... but you don't need that many people to make a good game. The only thing that comes out of big budget games/movies is they fail easier because earth has a limited amount of resources/people that are willing to consume your good, and no matter what you do... not everyone likes a certain kind of game. Just take that Red Dead Redemtion 2 right here... seemingly "everyone" is praising it... I find it boring. The game is more a SIMULATION game then anything else. Yeah it is nice to run around in the Wild West... but everything has so many animations... and nothing is skippable... makes me fall asleep. I liked GTA5's story mode allot more, where they went easier on the "simulation" part.
This game is not even in the top 2000 best games ever, so please try to avoid doing that, games are personal experiences, some might dislike the game, some other might enjoy It, but an indie Game has its limitations and generally they are short games and not replayable, especially narrative games, where once you know the story you dont care anymore
I think that's your own personal issue. Hades is objectively one of the best games out there in terms of narrative (which doesn't stop after you complete Hades the first 10 times), details in dialogues and graphics, gameplay variety and synergies and so on. Considering that it is an indie game, that's honestly even more incredible. Saying that Hades has limitations and it's not replayable is just wrong.
