Everybody thinking Hades is evil is probably due to Christianity. Everyone in Western culture automatically assumes underworld = Hell, therefore, Hades = Satan. Obviously he was no saint but if you compare him to Zeus and Poseidon who kidnapped and raped thousands of powerless mortal women, then the answer should be obvious. Keep in mind, in Disney’s Hercules, the muses are singing GOSPEL, and Mount Olympus is portrayed like Heaven. The underworld in real Greek mythology wasn’t necessarily a good OR bad place. It was simply just somewhere you went when you died. There were good parts of it and bad parts of it. So yes Hades isn’t evil but I still love James Woods’s characterization of him!
nah, blame hollywood, the first encounter most people will have with greek mythology will be with movies, mine was disney Hercules and to say that movie was inaccurate would be an understatement
“They call me evil. Villain. The Devil. But the joke is on them. For I don’t care what they call me. I don’t care what they think of me. I have a duty to fulfill, and such petty things can not detract me from responsibilities. All Gods have a duty to the world for we are bound to it and it’s people. But only I take it seriously. Only I don’t treat the world like my playground and the mortals as my playthings. I am firstborn of Kronos and eldest of the Olympians. Cheated out of my birthright by my own family, my own siblings! Yet I got the most important job of all, dispite no one knowing it. For in the hands of any of the lesser mature Gods I call my family, the dead would flood the world of the living. So let them spew their lies. Let them believe their falsehoods. It makes no difference nor matters not to me. After all…” *sly smirk* “All become my subjects eventually.” -Hades on pop culture’s view of him.
This is why Record of Ragnarok has my favorite depiction of Hades, he's very humble and throughout his fight he shows respect for his opponent (Qin Shi Huang)
I can see a moment of argumentation between Persephone and Hera, here's how it goes: Hera: At least I have a spot in the twelve gods. Persephone The renegade badass she is: At least my husband is loyal.
Nope. The myth, the kidnapping of Persephone, Was supposed to be a Comfort story for mothers that have to marry off their daughters. Neither Demeter or Hades were the bad or unreasonable ones in this myth. Zeus however, was the one painted in a bad light.
Hades is my favorite god for these reasons! I've always been a fan of his love for Persephone, even though a "woke" point of view, kidnapping isn't considered love. But if you look at other women in greek myths, Persephone had it good.
Disney's to blame for Hades they made him out to be the villain of Hercules/ Heracles. Fun fact hades helps Hercules in the 12 labor of Hercules actual Greek mythology. Even if was just one of 12 labor of Hercules.
Im sorry what? The original mith “Homeric hymn to Demeter” literally had Hades kidnap Persephone, and “Use force on her” and when Hermes his sent to retrieve she his “Yearning for her mother” how nice it was of Hades to kidnap her and force himself on her and take her away for her loving mother right guys? Fuck that Demeter that has Hades be alone half a year!
Hades didn’t do it by himself! He knew the Demeter wouldn’t approve his & Persephone’s marriage, so asked for Zeus’ approval, and fucker literally told Hades to kidnap the Flower Goddess. Also I have my own the version of the Hymn to Demeter, that has no kidnapping, no Persephone “yearning for her mother” and Demeter just as much of a diva as Hera
@@leonida5943 don’t worry it doesn’t have it. It’s just a version that makes sure that Hades remains the nicest of all the gods (also Minthe came onto him in that myth). And also gives more character development to Persephone
The original myth didn't even have Persephone in it, she wasn't even called that, she had a different name, it was Kore, and she found her way into the Underworld. In the versions in which Hades takes her, he's never written as forcing himself on her, and Demeter has been shown in many versions to be an overreactive mother who doesn't allow her any freedom.
