A gem of a series, superbly written, directed and acted. Congratulations to the many wonderful British actors who appeared in it, especially, of course, the peerless Gerald Harper.
It was a brilliant series. The actors - the scripts - The whole nine yards! It really was the best of 'British' drama. That they would make such drama in the modern World! Thank you for the uploads!
He's so relieved at the end.... he doesn't have to pay back all that money and nor does he have to get a job!! "Break out the champagne Sutton - the Dom Perignon '45!". All in all I did like this series particularly the later ones when they were able to get out of the studio
I must admit the financial manoeuvring went over my head, but it certainly didn't take away the drama of the distressing situation for Hadders. The clinical way he was stripped of his assets, leaving him with £20 in his wallet, was particularly affecting.
The best thing about having the memory span of a goldfish is that S1 Ep1 is what's on for me next Friday and off we go again. Big fan of your work Fougou. Thanks for posting.
You can certainly watch Ep 1 on another channel next Friday, though I'll be uploading all Series 1 episodes that I haven't already put up from the following Friday - as next Friday there is the 2009 Hadleigh documentary featuring Gerald Harper + other cast, produceers interviewed. Cheers.
@@jmaudsley6544 I'm afraid there's a problem with the commentary version; another subscriber pointed it out. I uploaded it with narration, but for some reason isn't compatible with RU-vid's requirements, so only the regular soundtrack could be heard - frustrating for all concerned. I haven't been able to find a technical fix as of yet. Sorry about that.
A really great episode. Such a shame that it's the last one. I've really enjoyed this series. I've been looking forward to watching this on a Friday evening. I suppose I could watch them all again now. 😃
Well, funny you should say that. The Friday following next week's Hadleigh documentary I'll be uploading all those episodes from Series 1 that aren't already on my channel - so it will be a one-stop-shop for Hadleigh, as it were. Even though another channel does have these up already. A couple more suggestions - If you're not aleady familiar with them - are Travelling Man ru-vid.com/group/PLqNtRu979pKELTSu2AyMm1-EYrH-Fp_O0 and Floodtide ru-vid.com/group/PLqNtRu979pKFH5x4eE-stpyYmXHohVX6X
That was marvellous, but I no longer have fingernails - I actually had to skip the scene where poor James had to hand over his wallet...thank you for posting this terrific series. I hope you're not going to be snowed in in the Marches, as my family and I frequently were - I have vivid memories of helping to rescue snowbound lambs on our neighbouring farm. Looking forward to more like minded posts.
No snow, only snowdrops so far this winter here in the Marches. Though last winter there were a few days when the lambs were huddled up against trees. Cast ne'r a clout til May is out, though. I veer towards that meaning the may blossom though rather than the month itself. Cheers for your comment.
I read a spoiler somewhere that mentioned that the series ended with Hadders bankrupt, so I approached the end of this great series with mixed emotions. So it was a genuine thrill to see him safe at the end (even if yet another relationship went plug-hole). Many thanks for posting all these. Great stuff. Harper was first rate. You should post Adam Adamant Lives! now. 😂
@@FoogouFilms I want them make one more episode, with James Norton playing Hadleigh! getting married to Stella Clisby! I cannot find a woman to play her! Perhaps Keira Knightley!
Argh, why did I read the comments before watching? What are we going to watch now? It’s such a shame it’s ended. What am I going to do now on my Fridays? Thank you ❤
Michael Aldridge playing the role of the bank chairman (I think) was a great character actor and certainly played his role as a bit of a bounder to the hilt in this episode.👍
It’s too bad they didn’t bring back Richard Vernon (the missing, incapacitated chairman) in person for this episode. He and Aldridge were together in The Man in Room 17. In any event they sort of bookend the 4th series. Both are favourites of mine.
