It drives me crazy when I see comments like "too many notes" or "no emotion" when talking about Hadrien Feraud. Dismissing his virtuosity like that makes no sense to me. Just because he can play extremely fast and because he uses many long phrases doesn't make him play "without emotion." People just get so jealous of musicians like him, and to make themselves feel better about their most likely inferior ability just say stuff like "oooh yeah well uh he's not using space so he must suck."
Agree completely! There's another video of a free form Jazz trio and this guy, Bob Schnob, said that music with patterns wasn't music! I was like... whaaat?? I eventually called him a troll. Lol!
well some people find Virtuosity often gets in the way of saying the same thing with less notes. I am sure he knows where he is going and what he is saying , but the listener what a connection... watching Hadrien is watching Him have a moment with himself....LMAO
Troy Tolbert well yes this man is brilliant and really talented and I as a musician I love watching him play but this is musicians music. I would never bump this anywhere tbh other than around other musicians.
They have to find someone to criticize, they're unable to use their right hands for their main pass time with jerkins lotion for 6 months due to job injuries at the Horse clinic. They're professional sphincter wart removers, at home they're pro Beef pullers.
do you really think Richard Bona is overrated? Can you please explain why you feel that way? Are you a bass player? Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinions, but I was shocked to see your comment say that. please let me know why you feel that way, I have watched countless videos on who many consider to be the top bass players around (hence why i'm watching Hadrien) and personally think Richard is a genius. Please let me know why you feel that way. Thanks
A musician who is on a technical level that very few bassists can ever imagine to be on, has the facility to translate changes and structure in music into new and different voicings, at times at breakneck speed, and it's akin to someone's mother talking rubbish? Man, your mother must be a theoretical nuclear physicist exploring super gravity...... Listen, his playing may not be everyone's cup of dejeering, but what it is, is FAR from mothers rubbish. Guys like him, Matt Garrison, Steve Jenkins and a few others are doing things that as a bassist, pretty much only a handful are capable of doing. Besides that, the guy is like in his early 20's. But honestly, if you hear something that sounds like rubbish, then either you're too jaded to allow yourself to objectively listen, or honest to goodness just short of understanding what you are hearing. Which I don't get the impression that you would be. And it's not that you need to sing praises either. Please dislike him if you want. I really can't stand listening to Victor Wooten for more than a few minutes. The guys playing grinds me. But I can listen and understand that what he is doing can be really wonderful and at times brilliant. ....... mothers rubbish......yeah, I really don't think so.
He's probably the best living bassist. I agree, Matt Garrison is great as well, I'd probably take Steve Jenkins off the list and add Dominique Di Piazza and Keith Horne. And you forgot MonoNeon, who actually come to think of it might be better than Feraud. MonoNeons playing style is absolutely brilliant, and he has the chops of Feraud, if you like Feraud you should look him up. "Better" is subjective I suppose, but I can say confidently Feraud and MonoNeon are the top two players out there right now
How enlightening, thank you! Can you please bless us with videos of your amazing bass playing? We would all be very excited to see work from a very clearly talented musician such as yourself!
Hi Eli here coming back from a few months of quarantine shed, this is probably not Havona 😂 just contains a chord progression here and there that sounds like it
@@elinaragon5051 while I agree that this isn’t Havona, it isn’t just some random improvisation, it’s an actual song. this is the same song played by Thundercat ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_4gLs0eOKGU.html
For the record you are right everybody plays some sort of licks and who ever says they do not is a liar and I do think Richard Bona is More melodic than Hadrien Most of the time But Richard can sing too and that help just like it helps George Benson. singers can hear those notes in their head better
It's not that he's not playing without emotion, or that he sucks, or that I'm jealous of his playing. However, his playing does get very tedious to listen to. It becomes slightly uninteresting for me, not speaking for anyone else.
Everyone here talking about the drummer and the bass player but nobody even have the keyboard player/guitarist any props! Hadrien great and he plays in harmony with the keys and guitar player even amongst his quick solos. That's what makes him a great bass player in my opinion (I'm also a bass player)
its always the ones who cant do what someone else can do, that critisizes n says what he didnt do...... when u can do what he does, and do it better, then comment directly to him. I believe he is intelligent enough to know how to be disciplined when its time. as far sa his solos, his speed is what makes him him.... you like melodic playing, then go play your bass melodically. meanwhile people like me will shed to get speed like this. then find melody if thats a weakness.. thanx. keep playin dude
This kind of playing is so uninteresting and boring. There's little melody, nothing interesting, no intricate structuring. Just a pretentious display of zooming through scales at really high speeds to see how fast you can possibly play. Very inept display of true musical prowess
The first one especially! what the fuck what the fuck peopleee!if u can't hear the music in this piece of art, and improvised, sorry for you! masterpiece!
Chris Coleman kicks ass. But there is no living bassist better than Feraud. He uses no tricks, nada, just two finger right hand picking and he manages to play faster than bass players that use tricks.
@bemolable So is playing with other musicians who are better, more experienced and wiser than yourself. I remember the first time hearing Hadrien's playing and going "holy sh*t" but now, perhaps because I'm older, I'm much more impressed with composition, groove and how something moves me instead of speed, chops and technical skill. No. I'm not dismissing Hadrien as the latter but surely he, like all of us, is not above the need for improvement. And at such a young age, he's got plenty of time.
One has to have compassion for drummers in this scenario... they have one of their partners in groove creation jump ship with an anchor. They are left alone to hold down the fort. As Victor explains, when there is a bass solo it's time to get a drink. Why? The best part of the music just left town.
@squiresuzuki Well should I say, for the most part the goal of progressive artists is to compose interesting music. That's the mindset. Prog metal's got a couple really cool really revelutionary bands, but also has yielded some inspired messes. I guess the same goes for any genres. Regardless i like this bass player a lot.
u may hv a point there...I'm wrkn on my bas too, atlist he does hv a lot to say...beta then being quite n i gues a matured persn is able to sift through the lot...
I don't know who "steenbass" is, so just for the record, I, Larry Steen (a bassist) didn't make the comment above. Hadrien is a monster musician and because his lines are so interesting, I have no problems with the amount of notes.
@squiresuzuki Yep, heavy metal is 'still' too three chord based, give me an 'A', give me a 'D" and an 'E', and I'll do some cool! screaming in between, on my fretboard,:-) Not knocking it, though, some cool shtiff in there ... :-)
i totally agree with you.... don't be ruffled by rude words. that's just my point of view, maybe doesn't match yours john mclaughlin called him 'new jaco'...
@flodaddylongleg it don't keep your technique light it makes every note you play even, so you don't under shoot or over shoot the notes and therefore allows faster playing :o)
@24maart1986 Nahhh he travels where the gig calls him to play but he lives in L.A. and L.A. is one of the cities where all the top guys do play and record.
@24maart1986 With the things he's playing now....I'm sure he gets plenty of calls for sessions no mater the genre....heck he's working a lot in L.A.....A LOTTTT
I love his ability play fast I wish I could play that fast ,, anyway after first song there is no differences between song 1 , 2, 3 ,, etc it's always the same sound improve
He is executing like all great masters of phrase and speech on their instrument. And just know the context is about showcasing the extreme of your talent in these NAMM based shows.
