Noted! Surprisingly enough we're fairly used to it in Europe... Managed to happen to me in Barcelona on the metro, realised as the train's electric doors closed, I pulled them back open and pulled the bloke into to the train! It was handed back to me in, all in order.
u trying ur best indonesian language, that's cool! A TIP: just pretend walk away from seller if you really wanna buy their goods after bargaining, and they will call back and give the price u want, this usually works. You could say : nanti dulu, saya liat di tempat lain (not now, i will look at the other place and pretend walk away). the woman in white did not want small pieces of money, usually they take minimum a piece of 2000 rupiah, just like the street musician, they will give back and even throw away in a rude way if we give them small pieces of money. if u wanna take away food, just say : "bungkus", actually bungkus could mean wrap. but the seller will understand clearly. dine in = "makan di sini"
Oh my God!!! My hometown (half Indonesian)!! Go and explore the archipelago, from Jakarta to Garut, Bandung, Wonosobo, Semarang, Jogjakarta, Solo, Surabaya, Banyuwangi, Bali, Lombok and many more. After 3 months there, hopefully KL is opened for tourists
In Malaysia, no matter where you go, majority locals can at least understand and reply in basic English very well..but Indonesia is totally different, so now its a time for you guys to practice your Malay. Have a nice trip in Indonesia. 😄👍 Fun fact: in Malaysia, westerners/caucasians are called Mat Saleh, but in Indonesia is called 'Bule'.
@@VeggiesOnTour ang mo is popular term for caucasians in Singapore. Let me list some popular 'name' to caucasians by SEA people; Malaysia: Mat Saleh Indonesia: Bule Singapore: Ang Mo Thailand: Farang But i want to stress up here that non of those names means any insult or humiliation...it just simply term for caucasians.
@@azlirazli7500, an etymological story claims that the word may have derived from the colloquial expression "mad sailor."The first encounters many Malays had with white foreigners were dignified, upper-class colonial officials, leading Malays to admire these foreigners and assume that all whites behaved as such. When warships began entering Malaysian ports to collect supplies, sailors were allowed to disembark their ships and spend time in port. These were typical working-class men who liked to get drunk and fight each other. These behaviors shocked the Malays, who quickly questioned colonial officials about the intriguing behavior of the sailors. The colonial officials, not wishing the Malay image of them to dissipate, dismissed them as mere "mad sailors".
Amazing video, when people are avoiding themselves to travel during pandemic, you guys take different approach... hope your videos will show others how to still enjoy travelling and stay safe....
Wow! Thought you guys are in Singapore. What a surprised, you are already in Jakarta. Plenty of similar food you can tryout in Indonesia and language is similar too. No safety tips from me, everywhere is the same. Do take good care and stay safe. If it looks good, eat it. Cheers!!! 👍😄
Nice to see you guys in Indonesia. Very much similar to Malaysia by language and food but messy in Jakarta. I recommend you guys to go to cities like Bandung. Cheers and stay safe.
I recommend you to PIK 2 beach (pantai indah kapuk) there's beach with white sands 4km², but don't forget to use sunblock cause very hot right there. Or you can do mall tour, cause so much malls in jakarta. 😂 I recommend to Plaza indonesia, or central park mall.
I like a lot how you interact with the local people. Every where, in Jakarta, in Bandung. Your Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language) is awesome. Feel sad that both of you already left this country by now. Looking forward your next interesting vlog, after the break period in Turkey (??).
There' s some slight difference between Malaysian Malay and Indonesian. So some words are different. But even if you use Malaysian, they normally understand you. In Malaysia water and bottled water is just 'air'. In Indonesia its 'ayer putih'. Otherwise, you can survive on a mix of both languages. 😊
the lockdown is extending up to 25th July. However this is a great time to walk around the CDB area of Sudirman Street and Thamrin Street, SCBD is look a like KLCC and you can do jog or look around the parks in the GBK Senayan, a sports complex in the middle of the city center. Some list to visit in Jakarta later: Kota Tua (Old Town), Some cool cafes along Senopati Street or Kemang Area, for shopping: Grand Indonesia & Ashta Mall, National Monument (Monas) the city's landmark, for food you can go to little tokyo in Blok M, new Chinatown in pantjoran PIK or local foods along Sabang Street. ps: just download apps "Grab" or "Gojek" for e-hailing taxi to avoid scam or taking public transport such as "Transjakarta Bus" or "MRT"
Be careful there in Jakarta and keep your wits about you. Covid cases are also rising, so extra care with hand sanitiser etc. Better to be safe. Your Bahasa like others have said has improved, I think this shows how much you love the country. There are some slight differences between Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Melayu but not enough to make a difference. Also speaking some of the language well, will make people realise you not just green tourists.
I so love hearing you speak bahasa Indonesia .. you are good ! .. yes it is quite similar to our bahasa malaysia but with some different meanings for some similar words .. for example the word 'bisa' it means something poisonous like snake bites in malaysia but in indonesia it means 'can' which is 'boleh' in malaysia .. yes the indonesians are very friendly and nice .. indonesia is very very big indeed, it extends approximately 5000 km and rich in beautiful culture and history .. I hope the covid 19 situation will ease soon and you both are going to enjoy your stay in Indonesia .. take care and stay safe always ✌💕🐈💕
We didn't know about bisa being poisonous! Things are getting a little worse, so we're keeping a low profile for now and hoping things improve. when we were studying a bit, we saw Membolehkan meant 'allow' in Indonesian, also a bit like allow/can?
@@VeggiesOnTour yes .. bisa means can or allow .. for example you are telling the taxi driver to send you to pasar baru .. so you say ..'bisa hantar saya ka pasar baru? ' .. another word you may have heard quite frequently used is 'nggak' .. it means 'no' .. or 'tidak' in bahasa malaysia .. for example if a person asks you ' do you want to buy?' or ' mau beli?' and if you want to say 'no thank you' .. so you will say 'nggak terima kasih' .. 😁 .. so good luck and enjoy your stay in jakarta ... but do take extra care and stay safe always ✌💕🐈💕
Pretty good job on the Bahasa Indonesia/Bahasa Malaysia Pat! I can personally understand most of Bahasa Indonesia, hopefully they can understand me whenever I get the chance to travel there.
You can get by with Malay now, I am impressed. Yes its basically the same with Indonesian language, only some words have the different meaning but generally, people there will understand when listening to your 'accent' that it is based on Malay language and that guy misunderstood your one week as one year... it seems he knows one but not week, and since he asked berapa tahun (year) it is assumed your answered was based on tahun. Nevertheless, its all good and you will be using Malay a lot there, a good opportunity to practice and improve. 👌🏼👍🏻
If you guys are going to stay in Indonesia for a while, maybe you guys could explore Aceh province in northern sumatra. Not a lot of foreign vloggers cover that area.
@@VeggiesOnTour yeah covid cases are spiking up now throughout South East Asia. But whenever the cases have gone down and traveling restrictions are lifted, do check out Aceh and also Weh island.
Interesting idea, we'll have to compare! To give you a quick idea, It's completely different - as in there are maskless people almost everywhere and the streets are full of people! Not great in regards to the pandemic, but things are on the move
@@VeggiesOnTour D pandemic isn't over yet. Hoped u guys have been vaccinated. Both KL n Jakarta is still battling with d virus. In d meantime, enjoy your exploration in d city, at d same time, be safe. 😀
@@VeggiesOnTour Also hope that your subscribers n viewers will increase gradually. I've seen many foreign vloggers get good attention from d Indonesian esp in Jakarta.
Stay safe guys. Jakarta can be a bit rough around the edges. Yes the people are friendly and helpful. But the city is not so tourist-friendly and safe like Bangkok and KL. Higher chance of crime, getting stranded/lost etc. Just be more vigilant and you’ll be alright.

Jakarta is quite safe for tourists, everyone is welcome. Indonesian people like to take picture with bule (foreigners), It's just that most Indonesians are not fluent in English
Don't be offended, KL is more dangerous in the crime index, even being the second most dangerous city in Asia after Kabul, Afghanistan in 2018 But yeah, Really has to be careful, Now is the time of the pandemic, bad people are appearing, so thank you for representing. But Jakarta is not that much crime, as you might think. all have their own advantages and disadvantages, Jakarta is not as comfortable as KL, hope everything gets better.
South East Asian governments should open countries it is utterly useless to closing them down. Wow you can speak Indonesian,i guess knowing Malay does help.Bargaining is so important in markets,i must say markets are much more like in Western in terms of haggling. In Thailand in markets only fixed prices which is boring.
Hey! You should be able to activate the subtitles from the video settings - then select auto translate > Indonesian. This normally works for us (not a perfectly accurate translation though haha)
There are 2 first world countries in the region of Australian continent, the archipelagos, peninsular Asia and Asia pacific i.e SINGAPORE AND AUSTRALIA.

Well, putting your Bahasa to good use with the street vendors in Jakarta ... Great to check the vibes first in a new country , a new city ..... anyway as what I usual say, , be vigilant , stay safe mate
every time I watch your vlog I don't understand your purpose in Indonesia.... If you go to Bali then the story of the vlog will be different... Jakarta makes me less interesting for content
Got stuck in Jakarta in lockdown. Jakarta is interesting but we didn’t mean to be there for so long either. We aren’t tour guides or typical westerners who ‘dream of Bali’. Just real conversations with locals and getting a sense of what life is like on the ground in Indonesia 👍🏻
If you gave me Indonesian coins i would returned you as well. If you really have the heart to give, give at least 10k ruppiah or the smallest note currency. Give coins for what!? Beggar!? Lol. 😂😂😂
