These were great days in distance running. Tergat and Hissou were absolutely world class. Gebrselassie has to be the greatest ever, alongside of Bekele.
I come back to watch these races again and again to enjoy.. to admire.. to reflect .. . I watch this particular one as though I have never watched it before. I am contemplating about the great dose of tactical manoeuvring and strategic thinking that go into it: each runner being a Bismark , a good practitioner of real-politics in the field : the alignment, the adaptation, the stealth, the cunning, the test, the betrayal, the distraction, the focus, the grit, the mimic, the ambush, the escape, the home truth...the catch.. This little fox.. Haile.. Look at how he pretends to be non- threatening by going along with the pack, seemlessly adjusts his pace with theirs, look at his Darwinian adaptation, look at the grit on his face...the predator's mirth, the underlying killer instinct, the nimble legs with giant strides ...the enigmatic moves... the swelling chest..the arm swing that glides... the unblinking stare...the shrewdness.. the hard work.. inexhaustible patience... the deadly attack...the exquisite timing..the chase after the prey.. the sniff of the scent of victory... the self knowledge.. Haile, the fox, knows a thing or two about the survival of the fittest...He is the winning gene... its Ethiopian phenotype..
I like your depiction of Haile G/sellase except the “fox” rather than the lion( 🦁) as we Ethiopian symbolizes our National heroes. Anyways, to add one thing perhaps you might have had forgotten is that, this “fix” is a descendant of the heroic victors of ADWA (the 1896 victory over the Italian intruders)✌🏾🦁
He built up a base running to school and back -Lydiard training.RIP Arthur Lydiard. Gebs is the greatest ever runner.Olympic gold World records in many distances. He is the man.
Haile would have waisted Mo Farah. Haile is the greatest ever. I remember watching that in 1997. His finish took us all by surprise. Haile world record = millions. Mo Farah world record = none
X x what does being rich do anything?? All this money will be gone by the time someone bank robs you or when Jesus comes everything will vanish from this world of evil... are u really that heartless and cold??? Haile is Only doing thus for ethopia not for the fame or money, you are really clueless go read some books instead and get educated better and become smarter rather than spitting out dumb facts, and his net worth is a billion
Haile is the greatest long distance runner of all time. 27 world records set. Its a shame Paul Tergat had to come in the Haile era, he was superb athlete.
@@Xx-po1fu Beside being one of the greatest athletes of all time, Haile is an accomplished businessman. He owns commercial buildings, hotels, resorts, a coffee farm, a concession on a gold mine and car dealerships. His net worth is estimated to no less than 50 millions USD. Please get your facts straight or else shut up.
Haile was the runner i used to watch when i stopped running competitively back in early 90's My PRs were not bad 17:15@5000m & 35:30 @10000 m. & a 22:00min. for the 4mile run which is a 5:30 per mile pace not slow at all But on the road if I didnt have to work full time i probably could have been able to run maybe. A high 15min.5k & 32 or 33min..10K so i know how hard it is to run that fast.
Sidecar 771 read history and you know the unpalatable fact that Ethiopians surprisingly defeated the Italians twice; one in 1896 at the battle of Adwa and the second in 1935
British commentator was very knowledgeable; actually both of them. Why do Europeans bother showing up? Watching the lead group of 6, you see Castro hanging, but taking more strides than the others; his upper body is tense, where as everyone else is relaxed. At 9200 they slowed down again.
Not my kind of racer 😮 However 😊 Certainly a formidable force to be reckoned with 🤩 Regardless, what a race but shudder to think what may have transpired had someone broken the pace up & injected a 2:20km midway 😅❤ Greetings from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦
@@tommytempo1 those two links shows what skah really was back in his days . gebre couldn't keep up with him ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E1--VQoCMjg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OquNBEwQP74.html
@@liamlesson3706 That was when Haile was just breaking through into the senior ranks. Gothenburg shows a true picture of his kick against Skah's. I can't recall Skah beating Haile in a major track final.
@@tommytempo1 look gebre is a great athlete and so do skah , they're two legends but i prefer skah because he ran 5000 , 10000, cross country, marathon .... he was great on all of them
How he prepares himself for kicks? Should he running behind someone? It doesn't work that way he did the right at the right time of his plan. You on the other hand are made cheap remark.
