This animatic (animated storyboard) was created in 2018 for Parry Gripp's Hailing Taquitos! Again, like with Raining Tacos' animatic, its very crude looking. To keep the feel of my older work, I make my animatics for my Parry Gripp videos the same way to this day :)
GO WATCH THE 4K VERSION OF HAILING TAQUITOS ON NEWGROUNDS!!! THE ORIGINAL VERSION'S QUALITY IS DOG DOODOO BUT I FIXED IT, PLEASE GO SEE IT ALL GUSSIED UP: www.newgrounds...
Commentary:
I started working on this 6-7 years after Raining Tacos. It was really refreshing but also intimidating. On one hand, it helped me reconnect with my roots (I had been really lost creatively for a while) but it was also a challenge to come back to, I had to return to a style I despised (at the time ofc). Working on this really helped me appreciate my older work. Sure the art was super crude but it was still so fun & youthful (which is a vibe I always strive to keep in my cartoons now). Working on this was super fun, figuring out how to bring the old style into a cleaner more modern look but maintain the original style. It was a neat challenge that was also super healthy for me creatively. While this isn't my favorite music video, it holds a special place in my heart because it saved me in a way. Picked me back up when I was down.
Fun? facts:
1. If you noticed, The Lord of Taquitos had a different hat for most of the animatic. I originally had him wearing a tiny sombrero (based on a design from ClubPenguin). However, Parry & I ultimately agreed that it would be a bit problematic so I decided to change it to a top hat. Top hats are the ultimate evil guy hat. Sombreros are for cool good guys, which the Taquito Lord is not!!!
2. At :59, that pose was drawn after playing Deltarune Ch.1 (which had just been released at the time) The pose was inspired by the character Rouxls Kaard in his shop. :)
3. At 1:33, I completely changed this scene in the final cartoon. I think it was one of the last scenes I had to animate & at the time, I was already taking way to long on this music video so I took a quicker route with the scene (that ended up fitting better anyways)
4. While he was technically in the first Raining Tacos, this music video was the first debut of Timmy Taco's design. I didn't want his design to be too different, but I had to make him distinguishable somehow, so I had to improvise. The simple line of "Put on your bike helmet" is what paved the way for his design.
5. Timmy's oversized helmet design was a reference to the Soldier from Team Fortress 2.
