Two types of shrink wrap are being used: PVC and Polyolefin. The PVC shrink wrap requires less heat to begin shrinking. The polyolefin shrink wrap requires more heat to begin shrinking.
Though the hair dryer has higher wattage, the heat gun puts out more direct heat. They are designed different with different primary uses. Spending the extra money for a heat gun is well worth it if wrapping multiple products or using a polyolefin shrink wrap.
