Going back to using hair grease the right way has been a game changer for my moisture retention, which increased my length retention. Water, leave in, and grease. Sometimes I add gel in before grease. It’s affordable and a little goes a long way.
My relatives are from Tennessee and they all have waist length 4C hair. Their secret ingredient is a mixture of hot grease, locally grown herbs, and olive oils. They also wash their hair with fresh well water. I’ve been doing this culture practice for decades and not only is my 4C hair lower rib cage length but it’s also hydrated and moisturized.
I'm 60 years old and I used Crown Royal growing up. I think Blue Magic hit the scene around the late 80s early 90s because when I had my daughter in the early 90s Blue Magic was a mainstay. Sulfur 8 never went anywhere because it is medicated and good for scalp issues. In fact, it works really good for dandruff and fungus on the scalp. Blue Magic is really good for retaining moisture, I use it after I wash my hair put in a leave-in, curl cream/gel to lock in the moisture. It keeps my high porosity, type 4 hair moisturized and soft for days.
@choconethotcoco4717 doo grow is more lightweight so I use it more regularly. Blue magic is good for extremely dry days. Crown royal has the thickness for the slickness. I mean, that is what I do. It probably doesn't even really make a difference. But hey. 🤣
I'm in my 60s. Growing up, my mother used Hair-Rep grease on my hair and from time to time Glover's mane. As a teen, I used Ultra sheen and Afro sheen.
it’s definitely back in my routine but only on my ends and scalp! I don’t love the greasy residue but I do love the way it seals moisture like no other.
@@mintind73 I’ve been using aphogee green tea restructurerizer (leave in), keracare thermal wonder (heat protectant), blow dry. Then I apply a little grease over the entire braid, along with edge gel on the roots on top of that
We need to use it right this time. Don't use alot of it and use a clarifying shampoo. Also don't use it before using intense heart. That's what I have learnt so far
Grease is and has always been good to my scalp and hair. My goodness though, with this comeback becoming more widely acknowledged, I do wonder if some of the good stuff that has been working for many of us for many years is about to sky rocket in price and demand and plummet in quality. Hopefully not.
Well people have been asking this same question for several years now and so far the price is still very affordable. So If they haven't raised the price too high I don't think they will, at least not any time soon anyway.
I just went back to using hair grease a couple months ago and my hair is flourishing. I've never had so many good hair days in my 11 years of being natural since using hair grease again. I praise the Lord.
My mom used to slather my hair with grease in elementary and i hated it. My head used to itch like mad and i would have grease all over my hands, papers, and pencils. A child's nightmare. When i started to take care of my own hair i stopped putting it on my scalp and just put it along the length of my hair. I use it from time to time as a sealant. I later found out that i had dermatitis. So basically my doctor told me to limit the product/oil that contacts the scalp.
I have sebboric dermatitis too, but hair grease actually helps with mine because it's stopped my itchiness and the flakes that use to attach onto my scalp. But everyone is different. I wish you the best with your scalp and hair care.
I'm 61 and I've never seen so many Sistas with various forms of hair loss in my Life! I'm not saying using Dixie Peach, Royal Crown & or Ultra Sheen hair greases, growing up, staved off hair loss. However, our hair wasn't constantly covered, & daily use of chemicals, heat, and or adhesives weren't applied either.
YASSSS queen, I'm here to cosign & validate your comments! Dixie Peach was the truth & I LUVED the scent. Even though I make my own hair, bath & body products, I STILL stock & use my Blue Magic. I also do the same for my 14 years old g'son. Shalom 🦁. ☺️
Grease is the way to go, no doubt! I use Doo Grow’s hair retention grease, its green color with olive oil & avocado. Water, curl cream/lotion, & hair grease is my routine. I love how shiny and soft it makes my curls/coils
old news. People started using grease again as soon as the curly girl method and lack of petroleum didn't work for them. What works for you is what works for you!
Grease and Pink Oil Moisturizer has never left my house. I’m born in the mid 90’s so some things are just apart of my upbringing.😂 The same can be said about home phones, LOL I still have a house phone (the ones without caller ID).😂
My youngest daughter is 24, and she'll be working and someone will walk past and she'll catch a whiff of pink oil, and she said it's like she's 7 again, the smell just takes her back every time ❤
“Blue Magic” is my favorite. They also have some wonderful leave in conditioners you can pair the grease with. First apply the leave in conditioner & then use the grease to top it off. The moisture retention is out of this world. I can go two weeks without re-moisturizing my hair.
Lol, I grew up in the 50's and 60's and my mother used Crown Hair dressing, especially when my hair was hot combed/straightened. Sunday morning it was a quick hair pressing before church with Royal Crown or Blue Magic.
Hair grease has NEVER done me wrong. There are so many great benefits. The number one benefit for me is that it lubricates my ends so well that I don’t get SSKs (single strand knots). It will always be in my rotation.
I love my Blue Magic Hemp as a sealant. My thick 4c hair is thriving. I have wasted a lot of money on products that don’t work on my hair. Water, Blue Magic Hemp and my leave-in. I went back to old school Blue Magic Hemp and never looked back. My crown looks good and healthy.
Plus living in a a hot dry dusty climate like Nevada I feel like the grease protect my hair more from the environment and keeps my hair clean longer. Grease, some hair cream and tea tree water is my staples!
I love hair grease, my mother used to blue magic greese to my scalp once a week as a child, you're right my hair was down my back. I started using Jamaican black castor hair grease, and it has been a game changer. I also use in my 4 year old daughters hair. This is another great video!.. or "a banger" lol as you say. Thank you, Queen.
I’ve mix blue magic into making my hair butters. I grew up with natural hair until I was 23, my mother NEVER put chemicals in my hair, it was grease and oils. I always had long thick hair. I started my natural hair journey again in 2019 and I stay with blue magic grease in my arsenal. I make diy hair butters for my hair and I add blue magic to all to get the texture I want to keep my hair moisturized.
i just went back to using blue magic after they gave out free products on my campus! using blue magic has soothed my itchy scalp and help me retain moisture when i braid my hair under my wigs. i love it. 😊
My hair routine is super simple. I only use 2 products. Shampoo and hair grease. I've been doing this for the past 3 months and my hair that was previously falling out and balding has grown back thick and healthy. My scalp was a mess (red, sore, bleeding, scabs, dandruff, pus bumps). Now it's clear and healthy. My hair stays soft and detangled. I was my hair every 1-2 days. A few times every 3 days but usually it's every day. I use Selsun Blue Naturals with 3% salicylic acid shampoo and Chambers Chapter 2000 hair grease. I have type 4 afro hair.
@@CoffeeCuties777 It's not though. Never has been. Very interesting, don't you think, that most of the old school black hair products are black owned, and they're the ones being targeted by the cancer scare stuff . . .
I get build up easily. I Think its because i have low porosity hair. I can use it if i wash my hair within a week but I like to go at least 2 weeks. So it's not for me
@@CoffeeCuties777 I use leave in conditioner and blow out my hair. Then i either wear it in natural twists or cornrow it and put in some curly clip ins. Mist it every couple days. Wash and redo about every 2 weeks. Love this channel btw
I've never stopped using it, my scalp is dry & thirsty and only grease can moisturise & condition it correctly. Lady Renee yellow grease is my go to, but it isn't manufactured anymore. I'm on my last can so I keep it in my fridge to prolong it.
Lol the blue magic grease variety never left! This is a wonderful scalp moisturizer and protectant. So happy that others are going with what works best!
Yes ma’am. My mom used Blue Velvet or Ultra Sheen grease on my hair every wash day (every Friday), and just grease and water when she combed it throughout the week. My hair always ranged from bra strap to mid back. Blue Velvet is gone, but I added Blue Magic to my routine this year with no problems
Started my journey back to hair grease in 2015 on accident, but it was a good accident because it turned out so well, over the last few years l completely ditched all my creams and oils and now only use hair grease and water. My wallet, bank account, and hair is thanking me. Best thing I did for my hair was going back to good ol hair grease. My hair hasn't felt or stayed this moisturized probably since I was a little girl.
I wish I could use grease. I have so many different types of grease in my collection. But unfortunately it makes my scalp itch sooooo bad. So I’m still experimenting with what I can put on my hair and scalp. But I’m glad it works for a lot of ppl. Keep it simple and inexpensive.
Blue magic hair grease is perfect for twist and braid outs. After washing and conditioning your hair, use either water or a water based or creme based moisturizer to moisturize your hair first, then use grease as a sealant to lock in all that moisture. When your hair dries, it will be soft, shiny and stay moisturized for days. The curl definition is crazy. It's one of thee best! Use it! it will not disappoint
In the past, hair grease made my scalp itch like crazy. I would only use it as the LCO method, if I ever used it again. If you use grease you have to use a clarifying shampoo each month.
I only use small amounts of Blue Magic only on the hair itself when I flat iron. My routine for my short hair is shampoo, conditioner and that’s it. I don’t put grease on my scalp and my hair looks extremely healthy. I’m not wearing my hair out as I’m still growing it back from relaxer damage.
I followed the trend of not using blue magic grease but it's more on and off these days. I still have a jar I use for moisturizing dry skin from time to time. These days I use a curl cream and castor oil. My hair is much stronger, more shiny and healthier. I'm type 3-4a. Results may vary.
I realized my hair was longer and I didnt have any scalp issues when I was younger. I asked what I changed and it was hair grease. I stopped using hair grease for all those moisturizers, conditioners, and oils. I use to have psoriasis on my scalp. They were about the size of a 50 cent piece. Now I went back to blue magic and mixed in some black castor rosemary oil. Its been 9 months. 1 is the size of a penny and the other is the size of a pea. I switch every other week with sulfur 8. Im never leaving hair grease again.
My mom used to use Dixie Peach 😁 I didn't relax my hair until I was almost 45... Now I'm 73. Wish i never did it in the first place!!!! I've been natural for going on 16 years now!
I think you’re right. I think it’s right for some of our hair types like mine. The oil and more specifically the conditioning lotions, etc just sit on my hair. A small amount of olive oil mixed with water or that honey product is good to help keep moisture. But any creamy thing isn’t good. But grease always worked well.
Blue Magic is it. Grease and water works as good as some of the products out here now for natural hair. Wash and grease your hair, plait it and let it air dry then style it. I have natural hair and hair grease works well whether I am wash and go or straightening my hair.
Never stopped using it. Im not about the custard, butters, jellies, smoothies and what ever concoction that is being made up these past few years. The trick is not to be heavy handed with hair grease. A little goes a long way.
I used the bergamot (the green) for my hair now. But when I was a little girl back when I had a perm , hair all on my back 😂 my mom either use the BM coconut oil or the original blue one. It still works!
I been went back once I realized I only stopped because I was a straight natural.... being that I don't straighten anymore it made sense to add it back in
Nope it makes my scalp itch and I only noticed as i got older. And nope I didnt use it everyday. But others around me have been using it. I use hair butters or products that are not as heavy as grease and more nourishing ie contain ingredients to give hair nutrition
I use Blue Magic on a regular. However, for anyone mistaken, Blue Magic has never in it's existence been Black owned either. It was founded by George B. Long, sold by him to J. Strickland and Company over 2 decades ago. It's still a great grease and it keeps my hair moisturized.
I still use grease but I shampoo twice a week with clarifying then moisture shampoo. I use a leave in and then grease my scalp and seal with grease. My hair came back from the dead. I deep condition once a week. I don't use a sister conditioner after shampoo. I just use a leave in.
I use Kuza 100% Indian Hemp grease. Once at night and once in the morning. Keep it in a durag when I'm in the house. No more itching and my dandruff is going away.
I guess this grease thing is for those wanting length. I'm firmly in the TWA camp, so hand me my jojoba, argan and shea butter lol. Rosewater and glycerin, oil and curling custard and my wash and go is good for a whole week.
I was tcb grease using girl before they changed it in the 2000s( I think ) but now oddly enough blue magic sells one similar to the original tcb. I never liked the original blue magic bc it was just toooo heavy so I now use the yellow or green blue magic. I know they say people with scalp issues should not use grease like that but I found the opposite to be true with my younger daughter’s hair. I found that her hair loves to clarified with sulfate shampoos and greased afterwards and when I switch up she pays dearly for it. I have had the most problems when her hair got too dry or when her diet was off. Also I heard Bronner Brothers grease is blacked owned so you might like that one. As for doo gro I say give it a try it’s not bad.
I was born in 1970, and my mom used Afro Sheen on our hair, as well as her own. She had a huge Afro. We started using Luster’s Pink Lotion later. I now use olive oil.
I don't think grease ever left. My mom sold Bronner Brothers in the 90s and 2000s so I got a chance to witness all of the trends in the beauty colleges, beauty salons, and barbershops. I think grease is good as a sealant, such as putting a moisturizer on and sealing it with grease. I have always wondered if the grease used back in the 50s through the 90s is the same grease being used now. Are they using the same ingredients or did they change it? I never quite learned how to truly explore all of the ways I could use grease because I started using oils and butters in 2010. Now that I work in a natural health/hair store, I don't think I will ever go back, mainly due to the toxic ingredients that I have seen in grease and also because we carry so many carrier oils, essential oils, loose herbs and butters (mango, shea, cocoa, kukum, etc) that I don't have to go anywhere and buy it. But if I did use grease again, I would avoid my scalp and just put it on the ends as a sealant. Also, animal fats have helped my hair too and indigenous tribes in North America would use it on their hair, such as bear fat. I have only used emu oil and it was amazing LOL
2018 I went to another stylist my other stylist was out of town my hair was bold she told I had to cut it low to get it back it look good with my hair cut 💇🏾♀️
I grew up on Royal Crown growing up and I fondly see it in Walmart stores today. I love trying new or revised products but I am holding back as I remember as a child it never helped the growth of my hair length.
I have Nature’s Blessing under my sink but I only used it once before I discovered that oil and seborrehic dermatitis don’t mix. Maybe just on lengths and ends every now and then.
