Can I just point out that the haurdresser said the "resting stage" of the hair is called the "Anagen Stage" but that is incorrect. The Anagen stage is actually the ACTIVE growth stage of the hair! The Active growth stage is actually 2-6 yrs, not 3. The TELOGEN stage is the resting stage of the hair, and it is also why, when people have a massive shed from sickness, an operation, covid, iron deficiencies etc, it is called TELOGEN EFFLUVIUM. The hair is shocked into telogen early, and approx 3 mths later , you have a massive shed of those telogen hairs. Catagen is the transitional stage between active growth (Anagen) and the resting stage (Telogen), where active growth stops and the sheath shrinks and attaches to the root and becomes a club root, which is the little white dot you see at the end of a hair that has fallen out. It is really important that if someones on an informational video for a Doctor, that they actually know their stuff! I was a hairdresser for years, and admin a huge hairloss group on facebook. You will find alot of hairdressers actually don't know that much about the science of hair anyway, as demonstrated here. it probably would have been more useful to have had a knowledgable Trichologist to provide info rather than a celebrity hairdresser! I have suffered acute Telogen Effluvium 16 yrs ago, caused by low ferritin levels. Taking Iron to get my levels up caused the hair to regrow and that was the end of that. Low vitamin D levels are also one of the big causes of Telogen effluvim also along with Ferritin, and it's important to know. A trichologist will advise you if that if you are low in iron. Zinc deficiency is not something that comes up in the hairloss group. Lamerts Florisene is a specially formulated supplement for Chronic Telogen effluvium. Biotin is not one that is recommended to take as it usually is not needed to be supplemented, and taking it can mask other important levels in blood tests, such as thyroid issues. I WOULD NOT recommend hair extensions for people with hair loss. You already have a compromised density of the hair, so each extension is hanging on less hair. If you have hairloss on the top of the head (Female pattern hairloss - Usually due to AGA) you can use hair fibres to disguise the thinning and make it look thicker at the scalp, and that works very well for many people. If it is severe using a TOPPER, which is a small hairpiece for the top of the head can give you the look of a great head of hair again. If you have diffuse thinning, so your scalp density is good but the ends of your hair looks very thin because alot of the hair has shed and regrown from a telogen effluvium or CTE (chronic Telogen Effluvium) leaving more of the hair shorter with less density down the bottom, something called a wire in hairpiece or HALO hair piece is fantastic!! It is a hair weft on a stretchy clear wire, that you put on your head like a hair band and it blends seemlessly giving you great hair instantly without any damage to the hair or scalp! You can buy one cheaply made of real human hair for about £30 on ebay or amazon. I have two, because I currently have Chronic telogen effluvium for the last 2.5 yrs myself, due to low ferritin and vit D levels, plus i now know i was also in peri menopause at that time too. I am now on HRT therapy, under the Newson Clinic, so hopefully that is the missing link that will help my hair out of chronically shedding! Regarding products etc, as a hairdresser myself having worked in big salons, i know that they peddle alot of expensive products, and like pretty much every other sale industry, it fills their pockets with £££ and never delivers what it promises. Get yourself a nice natural shampoo WITHOUT SODIUM LAURETH SULFATES (SLS). I use Dr organics from Holland and Barratts- its not expensive, but its mild on hair. To be honest, the best shampoo i ever used on my hair was a dog shampoo called Dermagic Peppermint & Tea Tree Oil Shampoo! LOL!!! I bought it for my pomeranians hairloss along with their skin cream and after his coat grew back thought I'd try it on myself! Lower PH than human hair shampoo and it left my bleached hair soft and able to be combed wet without using conditioner which has never ever happened! Human shampoos leave blonde coloured hair feeling crispy and gross before you put conditioner on it. Don't be sucked into expensive miracle products- most of them DO NOT WORK. As i said, I admin a huge hairloss group- we see EVERYTHING that people have been peddled and the results, and most things just make people poorer and do not work. With AGA, specific meds from your doctor are needed along with using MINOXIDIL 5% (you can use the mens- they just charge heaps more and label it womens and add fragrance to rip women off!) to halt it and regrow hair. You need to get onto it early enough though, before the follicle shrinks and the scalp goes shiny at which time the follicle will not regrow.

I've just read this informative explanation. Would you happen to have a Facebook page? I'd love to converse with you more. I have loss of hair on the crown and the front. It's really frustrating. I feel helpless.

Thank you Dr. Newson for such helpful videos. I'm not sure if it's me but I've noticed in a number of your videos your audio is lower than you guest's audio. Just letting you know. Might be a setting which could be easily adjusted. Thank you again for all your wonderful videos!

Hello I just started HRT. Will it reverse any of the symptoms of menopause such as Thinning of the hair, stomach weight gain, Memory loss or bone loss dryness and low libido?

Really helpful. HRT worked for me. Hair still a bit thin in places but much better. I have also been taking biotin for a few years. I've recently started taking silica which is supposed to be very good for hair too although it is found in cucumber so eating cucumber is much cheaper than a supplement.

You both look bored in this video lol As someone who is facing quite devastating hairless due to perimenapause l can tell you what brush or shampoo l use makes absolutely no difference. It’s all happening beneath the scalp.

You are so right. Most hairdressers tell you absolute shite as they don't know the science- just how to style hair and sell you useless products! i know, because i was a hairdresser for years! I have suffered acute TE 16 yrs ago due to iron deficiency and CTE at the moment, again due to low ferritin and vit D levels, but i didn't realise i was actually in peri when it started too, so its gone on 2,5 yrs despite supplementing, so hopefully the HRT I have been on for the last 3 mths will finally help get me out of this cycle! When my telogen effluvium started, the hair texture changed, went dry and fluffy and was very difficult to style which is really common with hairloss, but it was NOT something that could be helped by treatments, serums and expensive products or a different hairbrush, and i didn't do anything different to make it change to that texture! It only started going back to normal as my deficiencies were addressed.

@@krustycreme1093 but when blood comes back “normal” what else can you do ?! I’m stuck if I should use HRT patches or not, worried it might cause hair loss. I’m stuck who do I see , what do I do?
@krustycreme1093
@krustycreme1093 2 года назад
@@yastube27 I am using HRT patches and I will continue to for life now! Best thing I ever did! What doctors call "normal" can actually be diabolical for hair health! I went to the doctors complaining all my hair was falling out and they agreed it looked terrible, and then proceeded to tell me my bloods were normal with a ferritin level of only 15 and Vit D of 20, both of those relating to hair is terrible! Join a good hairloss group like the Iron Protocol or Female Thin Hair & Hair Loss Solutions and read a bit more about what the ideal levels should be for hair growth. Doctors don't have a clue!
