How to Knot Hair for Mustaches, Beards & Hairpieces
View FULL COURSE: bit.ly/HairKnotYT
In this excerpt from his "Introduction to #HairKnotting" course, master Hollywood hair artist Michael Ornelaz (Life of Pi, Avatar, The Bourne Legacy) shows you how to knot hair in wig lace, one of the key hair ventilation techniques, essential for building realistic lace hairpieces of all kinds, including mustaches, beards, wigs, and even fursuits.
Calling upon lessons learned, practiced, and perfected during his three-decade career as a top "finisher" in the entertainment industry, Ornelaz breaks hair knotting down into a few basic and clear steps. From hair moisturizing and creating a "turnaround" loop, all the way to tying your first knot, you'll learn how to begin your career as a hair artist with the right foundation.
Along the way, Ornelaz stresses the importance of patience and committing to practicing these basic yet critical skills. Once mastered, you will be able to move on to more advanced techniques for adding density, direction, and lifelike flow to your hairpieces for theater, television, and film.

Thats what i use to think until i found out they do this with a machine! They can zip through lace and pack it full of ventilated hair. This is how you can prove what im saying is true. ..look at the front lace of a human hair wig and notice all the knots are in an exact pattern..evenly spaced..perfect unison..

Thank you so much. This video is a lifesaver. I was able to fill up my thinned 6x6 closure using your method instead of buying an entirely new and expensive one. So I bought some hair and will do it myself - thanks to you video. I realise it's a skill, but I am gonna try. Thanks again.

If you are making a custom wig for some one, do you try to match the hair density to theirs or just do a standard number? I have very very thick hair, and if I used a lesser count, wouldn’t make me look like I had thin hair ?
